Blurb: Through the gates of the sun lies the land of dreams, and beyond that…the realm of the lost.

In a private hospital room, motionless and still beneath a sheet, lies Joseph Caldwell. His surgery has passed, to all intents and purposes, successfully. The doctors offer no explanation for why he hasn’t awakened from the medically induced coma. The stream of visitors trickles down to nothing, and still he lies in endless sleep. Nearly everyone has given up any hope for his recovery.

Anesthesiologist Oliver Gideon is racked with guilt and confusion. Could he have somehow done something wrong? His superiors assure him he is not at fault, the science he reviews tells him his dosages were correct, but the longer Caldwell sleeps the more Oliver is haunted by the loneliness of the figure in the bed. He spends every possible moment with the patient, reading, talking, trying to fill the little room with sound, to stir a response that science isn’t sure is possible.

Morpheus, King of Dreams has welcomed Joseph to his realm. Some dreams, he explains, are true, and some are false. There’s only one way tell. Joseph loves the dream world Morpheus has woven for him, for in it, he’s found something he never found in reality—a soul mate. For the first time, his life is perfect.

In the end, he has to choose. He cannot stay in the Realm of Morpheus forever. It’s either back to the land of the sun, and potential loneliness or on to the realm of the lost.

Review: Joseph Caldwell has undergone surgery. He did not wake up from a medically induced coma. The anesthesiologist Oliver Gideon refuses to give up hope that Joseph will come back as everyone else has seemed to have done.  He stays with him every chance he gets, talking to him, reading to him, anything to get him to respond, whether the nurses like him being there or not.

Joseph has found himself in the realm of dreams, some are true and some are not. Joseph has to find his path back to reality or choose to stay forever in the realm of dreams. In his dream he has found a soul mate and life is perfect, does he want to chance waking up to find this is just a dream?

This story is very different and intriguing. Though it begins six months after the fact, the backstory is dropped slowly, just enough to let us know what’s going on, and the two stories complement each other well. The realm of dreams is intriguing, I’m not sure I would want to wake up either. I did find in a couple of places, that some things from Ollie’s point of view were repeated in Joey’s point of view. The story was interesting in the fact that something beginning as guilt turned into something so much deeper and the patient did hear and feel what was going on around him. I have always believed that people in comas can hear and feel people around them. I was heartbroken that everyone gave up so quickly on Joseph and relieved that the anesthesiologist refused to let Joey go. This is a beautiful, yet gripping, love story and almost made me cry.

If you like 50’s songs, Drs., stories about dreams, and comas, love, faith, this is definitely for you!

Blurb: Haydn Prescott stood by and watched his friends fall in love, something he hopes never happens to him. It’s too much drama, thankyouverymuch. The next morning, Haydn wakes up alone.

Entanglements and complications ooze from Trevor, but Haydn can’t ignore him—Trevor won’t let him. Review:  This is the third book in a series that should be read in order to fully appreciate all the characters.

Haydn Prescott has never thought of himself as the type to settle down. He witnessed firsthand as his grandparents and parents slowly drove each other mad, and they are still together, miserable as ever. He remembers all too well, how the breakup in the beginning of his best friend Oliver’s relationship with Mack almost killed both of them. Of course, they’re happy now… or as Haydn likes to think of it, for now. Thanks, but no thanks are his thoughts. He is not, however, in objection to a night of mind-blowing sex with the guy he meets at the bar.

Trevor Ryan spots Haydn the second he walks into the bar, and he likes what he sees. The two share a sex filled one nightstand and that’s the end of it. But Trevor can’t stop thinking about Haydn. So when he, his daughter and sister wander into the bakery one day, both Trevor and Haydn are taken aback to find each other where they live. Sparks fly once again and they quickly find themselves in familiar territory.

The pair share more than just an explosive sex life. There is a deep mutual attraction and communication seems to flow. But Haydn is so dead set on being in a committed relationship that as soon as a good time starts to show signs of something long-term, he freaks and runs. Trevor is determined to prove to Haydn that they can be together and be happy.

Ashwood is one of my favorite authors in the genre. I especially love the way she has written this series focusing on a specific coupling within each book, but still intertwining all the couples and characters into every story. There is a way that this author explores the passion between two men that is absolutely breathtaking, captivating and downright sexy! But there is a valid storyline underneath that aspect as well.

If you are a reader that likes stories about never giving up and finding your HEA, then this is the series for you.

Review: This is part of the Growl AmberPax Collection but can be read separately. Carolina has a wonderful way with words, and can spin a tell that will bring you into a world that will help you disappear. This story is truly a work of art. I love the way the words just flow with such tender feelings. It almost made me cry in certain parts of it. Blaze is an alpha werewolf, sniper, retired SEAL and you can see the loving side of him. He teaches how to handle firearms at the shooting range and usually loves it. When Logan walks in, he is just loving it a lot more. He wants this man.

.

Logan is a very gorgeous Shoshoni Indian, very gifted artist, and comes home to visit his grandfather. He wanted a refresher course on handling his gun, but when he meets his instructor, he is fascinated. It would seem they both want each other, but Blaze is still hiding his true self. There is danger in the forest, and Blaze realizes it is another werewolf.

.

Logan finds out Blaze’s secret when Blaze saves him from the black wolf, fears that he is a skinwalker and runs. Blaze knew he should have told him, but he just hadn’t known the true feeling of what it really meant. When Logan comes back, he needs to trust this man with all of his secrets.

.

I would recommend this story for anyone who loves the paranormal, shapeshifters, two very sexy men, hot sex, and dangers. They come together hot and fast, but when the times comes with trouble it leaves them hanging with concerns. However, they will learn to overcome their challenges and grow to love each other even stronger. I loved this story and cannot wait to read more by Carolina.

The Bar Next Door, Book 1

Could he love me? Malachi has wanted to know the answer since his best friend, Daniel, confessed to being gay. He has never forgotten that long-ago conversation, or the secret hope that another confession would follow: that Daniel is in love with him.

Daniel is—and always has been—in love with Malachi. But how is he supposed to share that information without risking the only friendship that has ever mattered to him? He couldn’t handle it if he were kicked out of Malachi’s life. The best Daniel could do was move home to Texas, buy a little rundown ranch to work outside Austin, and visit the watering hole where Malachi tends bar.

Malachi knows that something heavy is riding his friend and he’s tired of watching Daniel’s downward spiral of too much beer and too many meaningless flings. Enough is enough.

Except, when he gets Daniel home and some strong coffee down his gullet, the truth comes pouring out. A truth that nearly knocks Malachi out of his boots.

Courage like that doesn’t come easy…and Malachi can only pray his answer is enough to turn lifelong friends into forever lovers.

Product Warnings
This little tale tries to contain a gay bar, a lot of beer, a hot cowboy with a pitchfork, another one with a serious addiction to boots and coffee, and a secret yearning between the two for hot blooded, can’t wait to get naked, just leave your boots on sex. Oh, and there are doughnuts…

Review: Malachi is part owner of The Bar next Door with his friend Eli.  Mal has to sit every night and watch his best friend Daniel hit on guys and get sloppy drunk, wishing it could be him going home with Daniel and wondering why he does this every night. Daniel got a ranch near Mal’s bar so he could at least be close. He has always loved mal since they were boys but knew if he ever told him he would lose him. After his stint in the service, he could no longer be so far away so he did the only thing he knew to do, move to the same town.

This is actually a very interesting story, however I felt like I was in the middle of a series not on the first book. I loved how Mal and Daniel had the same feelings and was afraid to tell the other. I liked all the characters and can’t wait to read Eli’s story, which is next.  I adored the little warnings in the blurb and front of the book.

If you like, friends to lovers, bars, cowboys, and donuts this is for you!

Blurb: Hotshot lawyer Matthew Owens has it all: a great job, a supportive family, and a fiancée who’s as professional and well-respected as he is. Or at least, that’s what he’d like everyone to think. The truth is that Joe Khalousi may be an accountant, but he does the books for a strip club. It’s not exactly the kind of job Matt’s family had in mind for their future son-in-law.

Worse, Joe is covered in tattoos. They run up one arm and down the other, blanket his back, while some even mark other, more private, places. Matt loves to run his tongue along every one of those inky markings, but he’d be mortified if his friends and family ever found out what Joe hides beneath his pinstriped suits.

Yet when Joe’s desperate employer recruits him to provide the night’s entertainment at the Purple Pecker Club during their monthly Tattoo Madness event, all his secrets are revealed. Joe doesn’t know Matt’s friends have brought him to the club for his bachelor party, and Matt certainly has no idea Joe is going to be the main attraction.

When the stage lights come on, will Joe and Matt’s relationship vanish as quickly as Joe’s clothes? Or will this be the red-hot wake-up call Matt needs to decide whether his attraction to Joe is only skin deep?

Review:  I found this book to be mediocre at best. The storyline jumped around a little bit which was frustrating and then some. The characters were strong though. Honestly, this novella was confusing to me at first.

The characters were somewhat strong and quite realistic. I found them to be very interesting people. But when they entered into the kinky part of the story, I found myself shocked by them. The characters were into some dark stuff but they remained strong.

The storyline was troublesome for me. It went from one thing to the next with no transition at all. And that frustrated me like crazy. The more I read the more confused and upset I became. It was very hard to follow and confusing. I had so much trouble with this story.

I wouldn’t recommend it to those that want a solid storyline with transitions.

I LOVED this novel. The more I read into it, the more excited I became. Amy Lane truly has the talent to write a fantastic novel.

I found this novel to be so addicting. The characters were realistic and true to the humanity. Every character stood true and amazing. With every situation, I found myself either laughing or smiling. The characters truly understood what it was like to be in a state of mishaps.

The storyline was genuine! The more I read into it, the more I smiled. Amy Lane showed true understanding for writing using transitions from one chapter to the next. She showed just how it was to write a story people would love and enjoy. In the end, I found myself laughing and happy with how it turned out.

Honestly, I would highly recommend her novels. They are great, well written, and beautiful. Go out and get a copy of her novels!

Thommie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 4 ~ 4.5 Hearts

Shiny! is the newest book from Amy Lane and I had the most wonderful time reading it.

Now I know I’ve said this again and again in the past but seriously, one can’t simply not mention the fact that this author is brilliant. Her mind, her imagination, her view of the world and concepts at large and her incredible penmanship are beyond awe and praise. I have long been a fan of her work and personality so this might sound biased, but every other book I read from her is just another brick in my worship wall.

With this work, Amy Lane delivers an astonishing humoristic romance. Astonishing because “Shiny!” is not merely a title, it is a whole notion, ideas and perceptions people have, and reactions that revolve around those perceptions. Shiny! is the shallowness that we all have deep inside us, especially when we’re young and naïve. Shiny! is what we’re all after, forgetting that it won’t stay like that forever. Shiny! is that temporary glamor that will fade away once it gets used a bit, and it will take with it our investment and interest. Shiny! is an incredibly profound book hidden in the lines of a hilarious romance between two fantastic characters, who manage to charm you with their unique personalities and take you with them through their memories and the story of how they met.

Yes, the narration of Kenny and Will’s love story is a flashback through memories while they tell their favourite friends of what exactly transpired when they met. Trust me when I say that I had a real workout of my belly muscles, I laughed so hard the tears would not stop. This book starts with a shocking bam! It continues to feed you incredible events, takes you through some steady paces so that you can take a breather and enjoy the sweetness it provides, and then it hits you with hilarity and intensity yet again so you can grab you heart for fear it will run wild. No there is no angst here, at least not of the Amy Lane’s kind of agonising angst, though the characters do feel real enough to have their own troubles and stresses. They overcome all of that though with a charming fashion, a sweet and joyful declaration, feelings and emotions that make you swoon.

And if you’re wondering about the “sexy stuff”, come on people, we all know how effortlessly Lane writes love, passion, and pure unadulterated sex. Between the hilarity, the sensuality, and the passion dripping like honey through every line I honestly don’t know what I liked more. It was all fascinating and delightful. Then again, I expected nothing less!

Recommendation: Do I really need to? It’s one hell of a book people. Go grab it and have some quality fun! It was absolutely a most captivating and entertaining read.

Review: I found this a fun read. It is a fairly basic romance of a closeted cop and an out and proud man. I think it’s a nice read for one of those nights you’re looking for something sweet and spicy. I liked the storyline of one cop standing up for a friend and lover and having to make decisions that would out himself.

.

The characters were also interesting. I liked Drake and loved Adam. I spotted Grady’s secret right away but for some reason, I liked Grady even more than Drake and am hoping he gets the next story…

.

I did read a review on Amazon for this author that they thought the book was a bit high for the length, I sort of agree but Sara is one of my favourites so the price didn’t bother me that much . I was not disappointed with the book.

I recommend this if you like sweet romance, fast-moving love, men in uniform (firemen and cops!) and some pretty hot man-sex.

Yet things aren’t right back at the ranch either. Joe is no longer the man he knew. Finding the balance between give and take might leave them time for happily ever after.

Review: How do you build a life with a man when one of his traits that made you fall in love with him, is something you are starting to resent. Do you do some soul-searching to see where the true problem lies? Or give up and walk away from the love of your life, because you are feeling neglected?

Joe is fiercely dedicated to his family that has grown by three since the fire we read about in The Fall, book 1. He is always putting everything and everyone else before himself, and he is determined to turn lemons into lemonade. But the time Mack spends away for his job, and the time he has to devote to the children he’s raising are causing a strain on the relationship.

Mack has returned to his modelling job in the city but it doesn’t hold the same appeal that it used to. He misses Joe and the family he is building back on the Ranch, but he refuses to let Joe take care of him. Ultimately, he will have to decide if the time apart and his pride are worth risking the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

This book is all about balance. Joe and Mack have to find a balance that they can both live with in order to have their happily ever after. Joe wants to do everything himself and refuses to ask for a let anyone help. Mack also refuses to let Joe help him financially. What they need to realize is that their relationship depends on them allowing each other to help each other. Once Mack decides he’s not giving up without a fight and digs his heels in, Joe is in trouble.

These characters have grown tremendously since this series started. Lots of obstacles in their way, personal growth and coming into their own as individuals and a couple. Their love story is sort of a raw passion almost like virginal teenagers. It’s been fun watching them grow. My only complaint was that it took them almost until the end of the book to really talk to each other. Communication is key, and I really don’t like angst in grown ass adult men that should know better.

If you like, stubborn, sexy, brooding cowboys that fight fires in their spare time you will love these books. And yes, the books should be read in order, this book is not a stand-alone, it is a sequel.

Blurb: Vladimir Gusev exists in a living hell. A year ago in the Olympics, he was forced to use a homophobic slur during a game, and guilt is eating him from the inside out. Not only is Vladimir not a homophobe, but in the aftermath of the Olympics, he was finally able to admit his true nature to himself. Yet he’s been taught homosexuality is a sin, so he tries to push away his feelings, but to no avail.

Joe Bufford is an out gay man and an ex-Delta Force member who was medically discharged after an injury to his hand leaves him no longer able to perform his duties. His job as a mechanic at the airport is hardly a long-term career choice, but Joe has no idea where he can utilize the skills he learned in the Army.

Vladimir and Joe meet, and Joe instantly recognizes Vladimir as a terrified closet case. Before he knows it, Joe is offering to help Vladimir figure out what he is and what he wants. As time goes on, Joe begins to hope more and more that the answers to those questions lie with him.

Review: Vladimir Gusev is a closeted, gay, Russian hockey player that is forced to present himself as homophobic. But his fellow hockey players always had their doubts about the comment he made, it never quite fit his persona to make that kind of statement and call out another player as a fag. His life has pretty much been a living hell, until he meets Joey.

Joe Bufford is ex military, Delta Force and Iraq war veteran to be exact. No longer living a lie under the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ restrictions of the military, he is openly gay and refuses to hide who is for anyone. Until he meets Vlad. He is immediately drawn to the Russian and can see the man is attracted to him as well. But Vlad is scared of the ramifications of coming out and wants to remain in hiding.

Joe understands Vlad’s inexperience and reluctance at coming out, and agrees to help Vlad gain some experience at being who he is. Their unconventional relationship quickly grows from experimenting to exclusive to love. But it is not without problems. Joe will not hide who he is, but he loves Vlad and wants to support him. Vlad wants to be true to himself and be able to love Joey openly, but worries about the adverse effects it will have on not only his career, but also what will happen to his family back in Russia?

Carr is quickly finding her footing as an accomplished M/M writer. I love how she tackled the issue of all the homophobia and hatred going on in Russia currently and wove it into her story, even if it was more of an underlying issue. She really has grown immensely in just a short while between See the Light, book 1, and this instalment. I loved how she showed the balance between Vlad’s inexperience and insecurity coupled with Joe being comfortable in his own skin and willing to be patient while Vlad figures everything out. It was so worth it in the end. And these two have an innocent sort of sexy passion that conveys well to the reader.

This book could probably be read as a standalone, but having read See the Light first, I’d recommend starting with that one. Then you can more fully understand the issue at the start with Vlad and the homophobic comments he’d made, which were actually made in book 1. If you like sweaty naked men that like to boss each other around in the bedroom, and hockey, you’ll love this series.

Blurb: This is part of the Tasty Treats AmberPax Collection. However, it can be read alone. Pete Letouche and Mitch Ravello lusted over one another in high school. Then on prom night, a couple of drinks gave them the courage to put their thoughts into action and share their first sexual experience. With Pete’s father chief of police and Mitch’s reputed to be the local crime boss, however Pete knew there could never be anything more between them than that one night. Shortly thereafter, Pete left town to train as a master chef, which led to him working at different hotels across the country. But during that time, he never forgot Mitch, and he also never lost sight of his childhood dream to own a gourmet food shop like his grandmother’s family once owned.

Now, ten years later, Pete has returned to town, and his shop is both a reality and a success. He’s on top of the world, until Mitch walks into the shop and announces he’s taken over the note Pete signed for the down payment on the building.

Pete knows Mitch’s father suffered a heart attack and is in a coma, but did Mitch take over the family business of loan sharking and shaking down local business owners? Mitch says not, but Pete has no way of knowing if Mitch is telling the truth. And to make matters worse, the lustful feelings they once shared seem alive and well. Pete can’t help but wonder whether his feelings for Mitch are real or just warmed-over old memories.

When Mitch invites him to dinner at his place, Pete decides to go. A private, face-to-face meeting could be the perfect opportunity to sort out the present and put the past to rest.

Review: It’s Complicated is a very cute little story. You get caught with the first paragraph and you can’t stop reading it to the end. However, it ended to short and now I want more of it. I was surprised by it, because at first with the way they acted I wasn’t too sure, how it would turn out. Pete has always like Mitch when they were in school, and then on prom night they spent the night together. Knowing the fact that his father was chief of police and Mitch’s was supposed to have been a crime boss, he didn’t think they should make anything of it. So Pete left town, went to college, and became a chef for many hotels throughout the country. However, he never forgot Mitch.

Finally owning his own place he thought he had it all, till Mitch walks in and tells him he now owns the note to the store. Pete said some hateful things thinking maybe Mitch had taken over the family business. Pete comes off as a jaded man and really doesn’t want to take any chances. Then Mitch invites him to dinner and he accepts.

These are two characters that you would fall in love with or want to smack them upside the head. They are both stubborn males who feel more about each other than they are saying, or at least Pete isn’t saying. Mitch is trying to show him how he feels, and soon Pete caves. The sex is amazing and hot, kind of like setting the sheets on fire. I wished that there had been more. It was to short of a story for my loving it.

I would recommend this story to those who love short stories with a little bit of anger, frustration, two sexy men, the hint of danger or illegal activities, and a very hot sex scene. It was told with such the perfect tone that you can’t help but get caught up into. Christiane has a gift for storytelling and I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.
