REVIEW: Devassy Avira (aka Dev) and Mikhail Reznikov (aka Misha) are rival figure skaters who compete in the doubles event with their respective partners. Dev is from the US, and he is getting increasingly angry by the skating judges favouring Misha, who is from Russia. He is sick of being runner-up and is starving for a gold medal. They have one encounter that neither can forget. They meet again months later at the Olympics, where tension and dramas are rife and both are determined to win the same event.

First off, this is a really great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. For those that like their romance books on the backdrop of professional sport this is perfect. Our two leading men also have some pretty hot and heavy encounters. The plot of the story was simple but intense. Dev is the male darling of the US figure skating circuit, though he is looking to finish up skating and go into coaching. Misha’s back story is great and it presents an interesting perspective on the Russian Federation and the treatment of their athletes. However, like many things involving Russia, I’m going to assume that it is controversial.

Like all books with professional athletes as the main characters, both Dev and Misha have be careful and remain closeted, Misha more so than Dev. The characters share a passionate spark that began burning the moment they gave in to their attraction that does not diminish. Like all couple, especially in romance books, they fight. I am pleased to say that unlike some literary fights, this one is believable, as the tension at the time exploded and all Dev and Misha could do was fight. I think that just endeared the book more to me, even though it was right at the end and I was already in love with the story and the characters.

An interesting side point I would like to make. The Olympic Games in the book were held in Annecy, France and there was a brief mention of the Sochi Games. After a quick Google search to confirm, the Games this book is set in are the 2018 Olympics. If you were like me and wondered if this is true, quickly Annecy had bid, but the Games are going to be in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In addition, it was also interesting to hear Misha speak of the controversial Russian anti-gay laws. Of course, whether what the author presents is the truth or creative licence, it doesn’t matter in this case.

Review: This story is part of a series and I recommend it be read in order. Poppy has lived a life of hell. Even knowing he could be hurt, Poppy tries to save his friend Marcus and Marcus’s friends from a deadly trap. Not knowing that one of the men he tries to save will change his life forever.

Dean is set to find his friend Marcus and is astounded when a badly abused little guy saves them from ambush. Poppy clings to him and Dean responds and they are both shocked at the outcome. But, they still have to save Marcus and they discover far more than they originally thought.

Finally, after a two-year wait we get a sequel to The Cat’s Meow. Yes, I know it was a long time, but this was well worth the wait. So for those of you who haven’t got a mind like mine (which is like a steel trap) you might want to re-read The Cat’s Meow, just to remind yourself who the players are.

Dean was an assassin for a Government branch just called The Agency. But when Gage mates with the King of the cat shifters, they all decide to give up that life to protect Noah. When they go to retrieve Marcus they discover it’s a trap. When they are approached by Poppy, Dean becomes Poppy’s protector and then much more.

Poppy has been a slave for as long as he can remember. He will do anything to help his friend Marcus and when he is taken back to the pride, he wants Dean to be his new master and they both get more than they bargained for.

This is a wonderful little novel that has a great storyline, which will interest you. Poppy is a very submissive character that has been badly abused. He is also a character that has a great twist to his story. Dean is a very strong character, but not an aggressive dominate. He will reluctantly take on the role that Poppy needs though.

There’s a great planned out storyline unfolding, with what looks like Government secrets about to spill out and the characters are left wondering just who they can trust.

I was really happy with how this story played out with both Poppy and Dean making a great impression. Poppy with his wide-eyed innocence and Dean with his reluctant compassionate dominance. Both characters have to find their feet in their relationship, but rather than continue to enforce domination, Dean tries to ease Poppy out of his slave mind-set.

The sex between them is very hot and I liked how there wasn’t sex on every page.. I really enjoyed how involved both Noah and Gage were in this story, but it was very clear they were just supporting characters and blended well into the background when needed.

I am recommending this to those who love slightly different shifters, rescues, secrets, dark dealings and connecting the dots, compassionate men, hot soldiers, hot sex and a very good ending that left me hoping that it won’t be another two years for the next book 😉

P.S. Note to editor not impressed that Braden’s name changed to Brandon on pages 108 and 109.

Blurb: In a world of devastation and slavery, two men must find the courage to overcome the pain of their pasts and fight for what they believe in–or fall, forever lost, to the ravages of war.

Biochemical war has devastated the landscape. Societies have fallen to territorial battles and new laws have arisen, of which leaders were made by blood and force, and slavery was condoned.

Markus is a man who has lost everything. Cold and precise, he rules his territory with an iron fist. Nothing could break through his barrier of control. Until he meets a boy who challenges his emotional restraint.

Corin, born from rape and forced to work as a pleasure slave, has suffered through pain and degradation for as long as he can remember. His will to live has been all but destroyed by the hatred and abuse of his parents. Yet, he survives on the love of his sisters and the hope for a better life.

That hope is nearly ended, however, when his parents sell him to Markus. Now in the hands of the most feared man in the territory, he must find a way back to his sisters. But that path is not so easily taken. Under Markus’ control, he learns that being a slave is not about losing oneself, and that having a Master to show him the seduction of submission might be something he’d been searching for all along.

As the seeds of love grow unexpectedly between them, a war brews on the horizon. Can Corin trust that Markus would do anything to keep him and his sisters safe, or will he deny that which his heart cries out for?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of BDSM, violence, slavery, sexual abuse, non-consensual sex, and gang rape.

Review: Corin has been abused all his life by his stepfather. One day while his stepfather is being beat for not paying money he owes his mother tells the men to take him to pay off the debt. From that moment on, he is the slave to the most feared man in the territory, Markus.

Markus is known for not tolerating insubordination from his men or slaves. Supposedly, he’s a cruel man. But the longer Corin is with him the more he sees that it’s not true. Markus has always protected those he felt were under his protection and Corin in most definitely in that category.

This book has intense scenes of abuse, non-consent sex, drama, and action. I found myself being angry on behalf of Corin at the way his stepfather treated him. It wasn’t his fault that his mother was gang-raped and he was the product of it. Yet, his mother and stepfather hated him and treated him in despicable ways until Markus took him away from all that. Markus and Corin both needed each other to help them get over the pain they went through in their pasts. The sex between Markus and Corin was hot at times, yet scary at others.

It was a good read.

Review: When Kyle’s father is killed in a shark attack, it’s left up to him to lead his people to a safer place in Atlantis. The only problem is that there is no same-sex couples allowed there during the mating seasons. Despite this, they make the journey there and are welcomed. Kyle meets Prince Finn and is immediately attracted to him. But if they are caught together in compromising position the punishment will be banishment.

Prince Finn has always been attracted to other Mermen but due to the rules of Atlantis by his parents, he’s never been with one. He isn’t allowed to go to the mating grounds or the surface like everyone else because his mother the queen forbids. When he meets Kyle, he’s instantly attracted to him. To keep him close he makes Kyle one of his personal bodyguards.

Jake is a human who left town for a year due to having unrequited feelings for his best friend Alex. He comes back and meets Kyle after he washes up naked on a beach. Jake and Kyle begin a relationship until Kyle’s secret comes out as to what he is and that things are not what they seem.

Very interesting story about a young man who tries to do right by his people and ends up falling in love, being banished, meeting a new love then being reunited with the one he left behind and including his new love in ménage relationship. Intense scenes with the queen that are confusing at first until the shocking truth, which I figured out before it happened, unfolds and leaves several people astounded.

Amazing details of the mer people and what their daily lives are like. Hot sex between Kyle and Dax at the beginning then Kyle and Jake plus Finn at the end.

I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

REVIEW: For the Arbor Heights series, as I have said in another of my reviews, you don’t have to read the entire series. They are all standalone books. However, for this book, we are actually introduced to both main characters, Dex and Brian in book #3, The Good Life (Chad and Sonny’s story). It is in book three where Dex is attacked and raped while he is out with Sonny. In that book it was a curious thread of subplot which now finally makes sense, only five books (and two years since book #3) later. I can’t actually recall how Brian fits into Dex’s life at the time of the attack, but that is unimportant for the book.

Now in his own story, Dex needs to heal and get over the traumatic experience, with the help of Brian. That is pretty much the thrust of the story. We pick up around 1-2 months after the incident. Dex needs to heal and Brian is that awesome friend in his life that everyone pretty much wants. Brian helps Dex with his living arrangements, getting a new job and incidentally helps him meet a couple of people along the way that also help him.

While Dex is still healing mentally, he is a strong, vulnerable character with a kind heart. Brian on the other hand is an absolute sweetheart. He’s also strong, but he is also compassionate and patient, yet conversely he comes along with a fiery attitude.

Like all the Arbor Heights books, there are numerous subplots. While there wasn’t any minor character that made me want to hear their story, except for maybe Vick, there was a lot going on. As I said previously, we get a look in on Sonny and Chad – which of course, is great. We also find out more about Dex’s background and the complications with his family. Speaking of minor characters, though, I do wonder about Dex’s younger brother. Mmm…

Review: Each book in Anya Byrne’s Lone Wolf Pack collection features a different romantic trio. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. I have always and will always love the paranormal world, especially when it involves two very sexy men. And if one of those men can just happen to get pregnant then it is even better. This was a fascinating story that I had a blast with it. It was a very entertaining story that gave me everything I could possibly want in it.

Parker worked for the protective child services. He had always wanted to help the children that needed it, especially since he himself had grown up in an orphanage. Not knowing his parents, he had made many friends but none so much as a woman he had decided to help. She had just tried to protect her sons and support them. It wasn’t till she had been injured that he realized just how much she needed his help. She had asked him to contact her oldest son Gavin for help. A son she had not seen in quite a long time. What he had not expected was the fact that Gavin, a male had given birth to a son and couldn’t come get them. His friend instead had come.

Finn knew that Gavin would want his brothers with him, but he knew he needed rest. After all, he was only a human, a human that had given birth. What he found was in fact one very sexy man, a man who was his mate. Now all he had to do is to introduce him to his pack and somehow let him know that he was a werewolf. Talk about a hard topic to bring up, oh wait that would be that true mates could give birth. I would have loved to see his expression with that one. He also needed to somehow protect his pack from the dangers coming for them all.

I loved this story and can’t wait to start reading the next story. It is one of my favorite stories and I am glad to have been introduced into them. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It had given me everything I could possibly want in a story.

I would recommend reading this, especially if you love two gorgeous and sexy men, werewolves, excitement, a touch of fear, hot sex, lots of danger and the fact that one of the sexy men gets pregnant. That would make any woman’s day.

REVIEWER: Prime

REVIEW: Brad needs to find a way to get over his constant pining for his best friend, Geoff, after he receives an invitation to Geoff’s wedding. The catch is that Geoff is so deep in the closet that he’s marrying a woman. What is more wounding is that Brad isn’t even asked to be in the wedding party.

One of Brad’s friends brings him to Blue Dogs. It’s a private club run out of Tristan’s home. It’s where the local gay men get together for no strings sex. Tristan is immediately attracted to Brad when he spots him at a Blue Dogs night, and vice versa. The problem is they have to work through various baggage and issues, one of which is Brad’s concerns about Blue Dogs being conducive to a monogamous relationship.

This is book 4 in Diana DeRicci’s Arbor Heights series. However, particularly with this installment, there is no need to read the previous volumes. They are all standalone books, with some past characters occasionally popping up, although in Sex and Candy (don’t think of the song!) I don’t think any previous characters were mentioned.

I really like this story. It’s somewhat charming. We get to see Brad basically grow up from his childhood crush, to falling in love with the real thing, Tristan. Tristan is a teddy bear, albeit a matchmaking cuddly one with a massive heart. Brad is also very kind, though he doesn’t hide his softer side like Tristan.

Brad seems to be running around fixing people’s problems, and Tristan, is very willing to help Tristan as well as get to the man he’s falling in love with. It’s pretty clear that Brad gets his kindness from his way awesome parents. There is some voyeurism and ménage involved in the background when it comes to Blue Dogs, which plays a major part of the plot. However, everything with Blue Dogs was tastefully done.

I also loved the minor characters Vance, Kris and Grant. I wouldn’t mind Grant getting his own story, and likewise learning more about Kris and Vance. Geoff is an odd character, I really don’t like him, but I do feel sorry for him. There were at least three other subplots happening, which is why I would like that these characters have their own story to give them justice rather than the sneak peek that we got here.

Many books have misleading blurbs, this is one of them. If you expect a big blow up because of Geoff between Tristan and Brad, you may well be relieved that this isn’t one of those stories. Again, this goes back to the fact that Tristan is some damn lovable, cuddly and kind. I never refer to covers but I must in this case, Brad is a baker and there is a distinct lack of baking! Perhaps this is my real life work seeping through, but if it’s not important to the plot then why is it being presented immediately to the reader on the cover?

Blurb: Boston in 1888 is quite urbane, but unfortunately for Gil Porter, that isn’t the same thing as being understanding.

When his sexuality is exposed by the scandalous suicide of his lover, Gil is exiled to the small town of Mercy, Texas, by his domineering father, George, who believes life on Vernon Porter’s ranch will cure Gil of his “unnatural” desires. Grieving and ashamed, Gil is determined to keep his distance from everyone until he can return home. To his surprise, he finds acceptance at Bent Oak Ranch, especially from Matt Grayson, the handsome son of the ranch foreman.

Knowing he must fight his attraction to Matt, Gil courts a local girl, but an unexpected encounter with Matt leads to his discovery of Matt’s feelings for him. Torn between Matt and his desire to be “normal,” between returning to his old life and building a new one in Texas, Gil is faced with a choice—appeasing his father or becoming the man Matt knows he can be.

Review: Gil has been sent to his uncle’s ranch in Texas by his father after his male lover commits suicide. The father thinks that ranch life will cure him of his gayness and make him a “proper man.” Gil has so many self-esteem issues mostly caused by his father. The reaction of his father and those he thought were friends had Gil believing he is unnatural. Determined to do what he has to be “normal” Gil does what he thinks he should be doing and that is to ignore his growing attraction to Matt.

Gil changes over the course his stay at the ranch. He started off as arrogant and distant and slowly starts to mature and grow. Matt and Gil build a friendship all while hiding the feeling they are each having about the other. Matt is slowly falling in love with Gil, and Gil is doing his best not to fall in love with Matt. It comes as a shock when both realize they are gay.

They were hiding from each other so much that it was an accident they figured even figured it out. They have a passionate moment, and Gil screws it up by saying it can never happen again. Again with his “normal” life idea that has been drilled into his head.

Matt and Gil go through a lot. Matt tries so hard to get it through Gil’s head that there is nothing wrong with him. But the emotional damage Gil’s father has dished out over the years has nearly ruined Gil. It makes it hard for him to see outside the narrow box his father has drawn. It takes almost losing Matt completely, to finally get his ass in gear and make his own choices to be happy.

So it’s 1888, in Texas, on a ranch. Where still today there are issues with gay rights. I found it a little hard to believe that Gil would find a ranch that was OK with Gil and Matt being together. I most definitely blame my own preconceived notions, but it made it very hard for me to get into the book.

The writing is as good quality as I have come to expect from this author, I just could not get pulled in. I am sure people will disagree with me and that is perfectly fine. This book has left me in the middle, I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either.

Review: This is the first book to this series and so far, I am impressed. Its characters were written with such detail and heart that I find myself captivated and wanting a more in-depth taste of these two hotties. Also the way Joshua’s ex acts makes me think that there is something more going on with him. As if the man is possessed or has been poisoned this lets me think that there is more danger that will appear in the future books.

Joshua had been dating Reed for some time now. However not only is he the alpha’s son, but he has started to be controlling, dominating, possessive, and violent. Scared out of his mind, he doesn’t know what to do when Caleb shows up to take over the company. Caleb lets him know that he wants him and seems to care about him. Many things give Caleb the idea that Joshua is in trouble. As his mate, he is bound and determined to find out the truth and protect his mate with his whole heart.

I loved this story and cannot wait to read more in this series. It was well written although it was too short. I want to hear more about these two very sexy wolves. This story gave me everything I could want in a story. It gave me two very sexy wolves, excitement, drama, passion, and fire, lots of drama and danger. It gave me that and so much more. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.

I would recommend checking this book out. I absolutely had a blast with it and can’t wait to check out the rest of Kalista’s books.

Sexy Dom and Deputy, Sloane McClain wants Holden MacKay but he doesn’t want to be just another Dom Holden plays with, so he acts casual as if he could care less about Holden. But when Holden is in trouble, Sloane comes to the rescue.

This book has a lot going on in it. From Hawke’s feud with Holden and the reason why, to him making his mate Jace mad at him. There are three grisly murders that happen only to Dom’s of the club Holden and Sloane frequent. The killer’s identity shocked me. Sloane tries his best to get Holden to be with him but Holden keeps running until he ends up getting seriously hurt by another Dom.The sex between Holden and Sloane was hot.

Great read with drama, mystery, and intense scenes.

After three years of waiting for “rabbit” Jeremy to commit to a life in Granby—and a life together—Aiden Rhodes was appalled when Jeremy sustained a nearly fatal beating to keep a friend out of harm’s way. How could Aiden’s bunny put himself in danger like that?

Aiden needs to get over himself, because Jeremy has a long road to recovery, and he’s going to need Aiden’s promise of love every step of the way. Jeremy has new scars on his face and body to deal with, and his heart can’t afford any more wounds.

When their friend’s baby needs some special care, the two men find common ground to firm up their shaky union. With Aiden’s support and his boss’s inspiration, Jeremy comes up with a plan to make sure Ariadne’s little blackbird comes into this world with everything she needs. While Jeremy grows into his new role as protector, Aiden needs to ease back on his protectiveness over his once-timid lover. Aiden may be a wolf in student’s clothing and Jeremy may be a rabbit of a man, but that doesn’t mean they can’t walk the wilds of Granby together.

Review: A bit less angst, more warm and fuzzy cheering for Jeremy to finally discover his worth. The theme song that runs through this tale of heartache, healing, and happiness is, you guessed it, Blackbird. And I couldn’t stop humming it for the rest of the two days I took to read this beauty.

It had been a while since reading the last Granby novel and this felt like coming home to old friends. The warmth and strength of community in our Granby guys, and gals, surrounds both Ariadne and Jeremy as they face the hurdles of healing both physically and emotionally. As Ariadne faces delivering a baby through a high-risk pregnancy and knowing she’ll be faced with birth defects, Jeremy is by her side, healing from his attack. Turns out, they heal each other. Jeremy convincing Ariadne that no matter what, her baby will be beautiful and loved eventually turns into a much larger gesture, one that holds a mirror to show him his own worth.

Aiden has to swallow the pain of seeing his lover sacrifice himself in the previous attack, and he needs to work on convincing Jeremy of his value to everyone most especially Aiden. The scars on his face don’t hide the beauty that affects Aiden’s heart, and so the theme plays on.

Through a huge community project to raise money for Ariadne’s baby, Jeremy sees himself through others eyes, and realizes that not only has he found home in Aiden’s heart, but in Granby, and maybe it’s time to do something about that safe under the bed.

Ben, Craw, Stanley, Gio- Johnny, Rory, Ariadne, Aiden and his family, the whole knitting community and even Rich, get together to make great things happen. A warm and fuzzy, feel good story that makes me want to live in Granby too! A nice welcome back to some of my favorite guys. Take these broken wings and learn to fly….

(Bluewater Bay 01)

Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.

Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show—exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet—no matter how attractive he finds his co-star.

Carter Samuels is the critically-acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting—and made him realize he’s gay—is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.

Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family keep reminding them. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.
