Blurb: When Robin has to save his career and choose between two very different men, he has to try not to double-fault… while hoping for an ace.

Professional tennis player Robin Keller has a love/hate relationship with most everything in his life – his game, his tennis rival and sometimes hook-up Danie Coetzee, the pills and alcohol he uses to get through his days. Nothing seems to be going right anymore, and when he hits rock bottom after the French Open, drastic changes are the only option.

Quinn Damaris has a well-earned reputation for turning around the careers of the athletes he acts as chef for, and he can tell from the first meeting that Robin is going to be a challenge. As a double amputee, he’s not a man to back down just because the road is rough.

He didn’t count on anything starting between them, especially when the way he realises Robin is gay is when he sees him with Danie. Robin will have to make a choice. Is Quinn kidding himself to think that a tennis star could fall for a man who isn’t whole?

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: Okay, I will admit it now. Sport themed books are my guilty pleasure. An odd choice for someone who only follows basketball and knows vague enough rules to get along with a handful of other sports. An Ace in the Tiebreaker is a standalone book in TA Chase and Devon Rhode’s series, International Men of Sports. I absolutely adored this book. I was barely a third of the way through this book when I knew that I have to read the previous seven titles.

Robin Keller is close to becoming a washed out tennis player because he has taken his health and his career for granted. His coach and manager are two very likable gentlemen, who decide to take steps to prevent this before anything else could have besides having a disastrous tournament.

Their solution is in the form of Quinn Damaris (in my head I got this amusing Irish-Greek thing going on whenever I read the name). Quinn is an absolute sweetheart, though he is a very determined realist who has the best intentions in mind for his client. His life experiences have certainly shaped him, made him stronger, and this shows in everything except his love life before meeting Robin.

As stated in the blurb, Quinn is also an amputee. I hope people do not misinterpret what I mean when I say this: a story where at least one main character has a disability intrigues me. However, it’s not on a sick level or me thinking, “Ha, ha, I’m better off than some fictional character that can’t see”. It’s actually, because I find these characters are heroes and I find it empowering to read such stories.

The story itself has a gentle touch to it as well as the thrill to want Robin to succeed. It’s kind of like the same rush you get when you watch your team on TV or watch a fictional team win in a movie. I also thoroughly enjoyed the writing style used by the authors, it was so easy to read and follow that it felt like I devoured all 166 pages all too quickly.

The setting of the book is amazing and this is where the writing style plays a big part. I really loved the idea of Quinn’s mountaintop home in Colorado, US; and Robin’s home in Lucerne, Switzerland. Then there are the various tournaments and arenas, including France, England, US and Australia. It’s basically a tour of the pro tennis circuit, but we’re given enough detail that the plot doesn’t feel rushed because these tournaments are, for the most part, between major scenes with our main characters.

But it’s not only the story I love. The cast of supporting characters were also wonderful. There was no evil plot or evil nemesis to overcome, which was nice for a change. Robin’s one real rival and bed-buddy, to put it politely, is a realist in terms of their roles in each other’s lives and is generally supportive of Robin. Jerome is another tennis player and provides a bit of comic relief, although he enables some of Robin’s issues and so there are a number of serious moment featuring him.

As I said earlier, too, I liked Robin’s coach and manager; they had a very stern fatherly-favourite teacher feel of their relationship with Robin. However, my absolute favourite minor character is Quinn’s big brother Morgan. I could gush for many, many words about how much I adore his character, but I won’t. All I will say is that Morgan Damaris is awesome.

Review: I’m not entirely sure what to make of this book. I liked the story, it was interesting and enjoyable and a little different from the usual crash landing alien ship on earth and one of those aliens happening across his mate. Azri is the alien in the book, and he and his crew are stuck on earth – I may have missed it, but there was no real discussion of “stuck on the bloody planet, need to make the best of it” or “we need to blend in with the population until we find a way off this rock”.

That aside, Azri meets the human, Eric, who has an average job and a pretty crumby home life. As soon as Azri and Eric meet, Eric goes out of his way to start a new life.

As I said, I like the story. One thing that bothered me, though, was just how quickly Eric fell into step with Azri and his crew. Sure, this was required to move the novel

Review: I feel rather torn when it comes to this story. I read it a few years ago when it was first published with Totally Bound, which I remembered later. Generally, I love Carol Lynne’s books, particularly the Campus Cravings and Cattle Valley series. However, Sunset Ridge leaves me feeling confused.

After much thought, I figured it out: there is one particularly annoying (bitchy, spoiled) character that quite frankly, ruins the story and makes the first half particularly difficult to get through. It’s Gray’s niece Raleigh, so she is quite a central character throughout. But please, just keep going, because not only does this character mature and do a complete 180, her antics aren’t particularly central to the book. However, I can’t work out why Raleigh had a sudden change in heart and quickly grew up and matured, it would have been better if she started to mature slowly from the beginning.

Otherwise, this is a very enjoyable story. We have two cowboys have hot sex, always a winner. The cowboys in question, Gray and Ram, also have a sweet relationship that forms. Like all cowboys, they start out in the closet, but soon discover that there is a good reason to come out if they need to. There is also the background story between Jesse and Ben, which completely makes up for the Raleigh debacle. I think it would be awesome if Jesse Ben had their own story.

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: This is a very sweet and very cute story about the start of a relationship. I also felt that it was realistic. Barry has some major baggage from a past relationship that kept him broken-hearted and in a great deal of debt. He is the unassuming and probably very naive, he’s works as a pet groomer, taking great pride in his work, and he also volunteers at his local animal shelter every Saturday. Isn’t that sweet?? Barry is completely adorable!

Sheldon is the owner of the animal shelter. He’s had a career change and has always loved animals. He is mostly opposite to Barry. He is quiet but he knows when he must take control. He’s probably also more than a little stubborn. Sheldon has been attracted to Barry for a while now, but the timing is now right for him to make a move. Despite all of Barry’s baggage, he now works through things in his mind. Sheldon is also a sweetheart, taking the lead but going at Barry’s speed.

There are a couple minor characters too. In particular, Barry’s little sister, Trixie, is a whirlwind of energy and has only the best intentions when it comes to her big brother. The interaction between her and her husband and her and Barry is amusing to read. Again, the sibling relationship feels so natural.

If only this could be long, I absolutely adored this story!

Review: So Jim likes cops so much he becomes one. He quickly finds a gay cop sub culture and becomes initiated through many tiring repetitive erotic adventures.

The plot is not as thick as all the phallic references I read, but I think this is what most expect for jerk-off material. In that sense, rating it as masturbatory reading, I would still only rate this a 2. The scenes had some fun kink, but the relentless sexual thesaurus became tiring.

Within the opening gambit of one scene, I read the phallic descriptions, fuck stick, prick, cock, aching tool, pouting piss slit, glistening tool, and fuck piston, drooling piss slit, on and on…. The dialogue was amazing, “Your cock really feels good in me. Are you feeling as good as I am?” …..” Hell, yeah.” Add new names, multiple partners and repeat.

Eventually, Jim pairs up, and he and his partner have frequent sex parties, threesomes, and foursomes with other cops to celebrate their anniversary, monthly. Like I said, it’s jerk-off material with a few mildly erotic scenes, without a plot, and meant for the porn industry.

Review: For fans of YAOI and Jet Mykles in general, Noble fits the bill. We get another healthy sexy dose of glamorous rock stars and beautiful movie star men, and of course a coming out of the closet situation. Noble is right in line with the previous Indigo Knights books as well as fitting the mold of Heaven Sent, that’ what her readers want, and that’s how I critiqued this book.

Foxy and Noble are both glamorous, figures, each with their own sexual appeal. Foxy, the shy but gorgeous up and coming film star with heavenly locks and a buff bod, Noble the ideal rock star image, dyed purple/indigo Mohawk hair, lots of silver rings and piercings, and a bad boy tattoo of a horny toad, both collide to form a steamy hot love affair. The problem is Foxy is a closeted movie star caught up in a morality clause contract and Noble is as out and proud as it gets, with a wild boy sex fiend reputation.

The tension of this plot is how Noble can keep true to himself, have some self-respect, and allow his love for the closeted star to grow. Will Foxy tuck tail and hide away from himself and Noble, or will he let their love shine in the light of day no matter the consequences. I’m sure you can guess the ending, but Noble is still a fun, feel good YAOI novel in the spirit of Heaven Sent and the previous Indigo Knights series with out as much angst or drama.

Review: I really enjoyed Something Like Lightening for its moments of self-realization. Kelly seems to have it all, confidence, speed, talent, looks, and plenty of attitude!!! But he really needs to take a closer look at himself…and it takes a huge tragic moment to do that. It’s the sadness, loss, aching awareness of flaws in ourselves and those we love, it’s those things that Jay Bell magically worked into …Lightening. Those are the themes that stung my heart and kept me glued to the pages.

Something Like Lightning is a coming of age, finding one’s true self kind of read. I’m not sure but I think this fits into the Young Adult genre…I’m not as familiar with that.

Now, I know I would have an even greater appreciation for this book if I had read the previous Something Like series…there are repeat characters, overlapping and intersecting plots, and a ton of character building for Kelly that I missed and thus lost a big chunk of the impact this book makes for those readers. So I really need to go back and do some more reading.

The writing is smooth, the characters rich, and the plot painful, somewhat predictable, and poignant at the same time. The big moment I had to read carefully, think about and reread comes before the big accident, it comes in the subtle details of a relationship in decline, the pain in recognizing that, and letting go for the sake of both people involved….such a big life lesson, a huge thing for an author to tackle.

I must also add, I really like the cover art for all of Jay Bell’s books! Yes, beat the stereotype baby!

Review: Well-written mystery about Detective Nelson looking into the murder of a drag Queen named Roxie. I could not stop reading until the very end. Of course, I was wrong about who the killer actually turned out to be but I really enjoyed reading it. Though some things had me cringing.

Andrew, Glitter, is a drag queen performer and is the one who found Ramon’s, Roxie, body and call the police. He also ends up telling his mom he’s a drag queen and showing her which did not turn out well. Andrew seemed like a sweet young man.

Loved this story. Amazing details in the case as well as some hot sex.

Review: An interesting story of two men drawn together in a world split into two sides. There is the Corhall’s who have everything they could possibly want and take things for granted. Then there are the soldiers who are supposed to keep the peace and take out those they believe to be not trustful.

Valentine is a handsome man who used to be in the courts favor. Now he is reduced to serving the richest of Corhall’s. I was never sure how he had fallen out of court. But I was disgusted that the Corhall’s thought nothing of using him at their leisure.

Reed is a soldier who rescues Valentine’s sister from being arrested and thus begins his affair with Valentine. It was hot and passionate.

Though I did wish Valentine would’ve explained why he was the way, he was.

All in all, it was a good read.

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: Nathan lies. He lies to hide himself and be accepted by those around him. And it is slowly draining him of life. Now he is in so deep he doesn’t see a way out. Nathan is gay, but to continue hiding he is engaged to his boss’ daughter to keep up the appearance of being straight. As the story progresses the reader learns the real reason he is trying to be straight. Nathan had a seriously messed up childhood that has made hiding seem the best answer. He uses drugs, alcohol, and sleazy bathroom sex to deal with his emotional pain.

Fury at first look is just a hard ass fighter. But he is truly an amazingly sweet man. Fury had a horrible childhood also. If he let it, his past would drown him. Instead, he deals by being a MMA fighter to get all the aggression out. Fury is gay and is not ashamed of who he is, but he doesn’t advertise it either. Fury is a very smart and honest man who gives Nathan some hard-won truths.

The two MCs are from different backgrounds and deal with life much differently but they are perfect for each other. Fury lives in a world of violence and Nathan is full of the lies he tells. But the two of them together give each other something they both need. Human connection and love. They have to overcome so much together and rely on the other. There are many heartbreaking moments and maybe a few tears.

This is NOT a light read at all. It is intense and gritty and most of all real. I could believe the issues and situation that happened. Also, the sex is seriously HOT and may make you fan your face and need a cold drink. The shower scene alone… OMFG. Together these two men learn to let go and hold on to each other.

Holy Shit this books starts and you don’t want it to stop. There is angst, action, and damn hot sex. It’s a rollercoaster ride that keeps you on edge and you hate getting off of when it ends. I loved Nathan. He is so totally a hot mess at the start. When he finally opens himself up to Fury, it was amazing. But Fury really stole my little reader heart. I just wanted to grab him and hug him. I love them together.

This book is well written and hard-hitting. It’s a must read if you love damaged MCs, burning the pages sex, having to fight to be together, and finally a happy ending.

Blurb: Edward and Gene were instantly drawn to each other when they met at college in Maryland. Fast friends, they developed a “closer than brothers” relationship. But then Edward began to feel more for Gene. In 1967, those kinds of feelings would not be tolerated. Not even by Edward himself.

Gene always thought he was asexual. He had never been attracted to anyone… until he met Edward. He dreamed of Edward as more than a friend throughout college, but he knew Edward would not welcome that kind of attention. So Gene wasn’t surprised when Edward reacted badly to a drunken kiss just before Edward’s graduation. He was surprised when Edward moved to Florida and had little to do with him for years afterward.

When fate finally brings them back together, Edward is married and has a little girl. Gene gladly accepts the role of “Uncle Gene,” happy to have Edward in his life in any capacity. Together, they face all the trials and tribulations life throws at them, including the death of Edward’s wife, and as each grows and matures, their life views change. The relationship they’ve secretly wanted all along is closer than ever, and if Edward can break free from his homophobic upbringing and admit his feelings for Gene, there might still be a chance for them to share their lives in the way they both desire.

A Bittersweet Dreams title: It’s an unfortunate truth: love doesn’t always conquer all. Regardless of its strength, sometimes fate intervenes, tragedy strikes, or forces conspire against it. 5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: What, to me, is an epic love story? An epic love story spans decades, starts young and ends old. It withstands the best and worst, and everything in between. This love transforms itself and those it overtakes, can be both selfless and selfish. It is surrounded by romance and tragedy. There is history, family and friendship, betrayal and anger. It runs the gamut of every emotion and shows all sides of the story.

Epic love is about imperfect people who break but love and passion that will not. Even if they don’t live forever, their love should. Their story should elicit laughter and smiles. It should show love and tenderness. You should find yourself immersed wholly and completely. And if it can make you cry good and hard, even better.

Edward and Gene’s story is a perfect example of the above. From the first word to the last, author Brynn Stein carefully built their world, their life, their love. After a painful rift in their earlier years, Edward and Gene rekindled and strengthened their friendship, though not without pain and strife. They grew together and apart in love and in pain. There were moments of closeness, moments of distance, of happiness and misery.

Over time, they effectively built a family; kinship of blood and non-blood ties. That family built lives, withstood great pain and experienced great love. They stood strong together as a whole when parts faltered. They fought through illness, death, alcoholism, betrayal and all the things that come to pass as life runs its course. They battled homophobia, internally and via external pressures of the world. Through the Years, through their eyes we saw things change socially, legally and personally, for these two men and everyone they loved.

As they matured, so did their family. They grew up. Their little ones grew up. Life changed. Things changed. People changed. But their love did not. Appropriately titled, “Through the Years” shares its name with a famous Kenny Rogers song, which is brilliantly used as a literary soundtrack as the story begins to come to a close. There are no surprises here, no clear happy endings. Just a wonderfully written story with a positive, realistic ending that was worthy of Edward, Gene and their loving family.

Thank you, Brynn Stein, for giving me Gene, Edward and their epic love story. Thank you for making my eyes so wet I could barely see the words in front of me. Thank you for writing this beautiful and timeless tale of love. Thank you for making my night. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go listen to a certain Kenny Rogers song… again…

When a hot, cocky young shearer named Lachlan Moore catches his eye at a competition, he’s content to look but not touch, knowing the young man is out of his league.

Lachie deals with it the best he can, cutting himself off from all he knows. A year later and he’s back in the shearing shed, out of practice and lacking confidence. That Shane’s there to watch him flounder doesn’t help his nerves.

Review: This was a very good book, if not way too long for me. I thought my eyes were going to stay crisscrossed while reading. I however found myself captivated by it. I never would have thought that I would be into a story that did not have the paranormal or law enforcement angle.

However, I was quite surprised by this book. It has such a sad tone to most of it, and I can actually see it. I was drawn to it. It was a beautiful story that just grabs you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Lachie is a beautiful young man with a heart of gold. Whereas Shane is a forty-year-old man, who has his heart set on Lachie.

Shane has been in the shearing shed for most of his life and even though he is alone through it all, he loves what he does. When he meets Lachie, he thinks he has found the man for him. Lachie is quite a bit younger than he is but he wants a future with him. However, there is something going on with Lachie. Something he is hiding and he doesn’t know if he wants to push it or let it go.

Lachie has been in the shearing shed for a few years, but he is pretty damn good at it. He had met Shane and was actually almost as good at it as Shane is. Then the earthquake hits and his father is killed leaving him taking care of his father. His mother is taking it very badly and he is just not sure how to handle it all. He knows that he is keeping secrets from Shane but he doesn’t want Shane to feel sorry for his family. He is actually not sure what to think about it all. He is running scared and now he needs to learn how to trust another with all that is going on.

Shane wants to help, he wants to be there for the man he has fallen in love with. I loved this book, but it was very hard to get into all the details. I actually put that on the fact that the story is placed in another country and I had difficulties with the slang I would say. It was a beautiful story and you can tell that there was a lot of passion and heart put into it. There is nothing better than a story that you can tell the author put their entire heart into it. I was blessed to have had a chance to read this amazing story.

I would recommend reading this especially if you love sexy men, tender sex, lots of passion and fire, angst, pain, fears and happily ever after. It will give you all that you could possibly want in a story.

Lee Brazil

As if starting a new job, picking up the reins of a disorganized former colleague, and moving back in with his parents while he saves for a down payment on a house of his own isn’t enough, Cecil Trace has just discovered that part of the Art Director’s job at the exclusive Linwood Academy is putting on a series of holiday pageants…with the first one celebrating Thanksgiving just three short weeks away.

He’s got enough on his hands getting reluctant students ready to wow their parents and the community with their brilliance, and preparing a holiday showing of his own artwork at a local gallery, he doesn’t need recalcitrant but brilliant math instructor Reese Cavelli arguing about every little detail.

While Reese understands the new Art Director’s urgency, he can’t allow Cecil to undermine his authority with the students. Reese can’t help being an ass to the new art director, and he knows in part his behavior is due to his own insecurities, but it’s also got a lot to do with the fact that the vibrant young artist is so damned sexy in his jeans and bohemian shirts. Every time he comes into contact with Cecil Trace, he finds himself

His wings instinctively brought out the urge in him to fly, and Kellan’s need to be free became his obsession.

When the dark, swirling clouds loomed one night, Kellan abandoned the place he had called home, taking to the sky in search of his freedom and to seal his heart that seemed incomplete.

Because Kellan’s secret was too great for anyone outside the institute to know about, TC unleashed genetically altered Maniacs to bring him back.

Through independence, his amazing reality brought riveting adventures to a man he found and couldn’t seem to live without. They get tangled with hair-raising suspense that adds heart-pounding tension to every attempt they make at living their unique affair. They faced uncertainty so hectic that staying together was the least of their challenges, and it caused many of their bouts with passion to spiral in and out of chaos.

Blurb: One rainy night, bike-shop owner Kenton Palmer finds an injured dog on the road and takes him to the nearest vet clinic, only to discover he’s actually a wolf. The handsome Dr. Will Barclay’s interest and his own brand of animal attraction overwhelm Kenton, who’s been doubting himself after a failed romance.

Gray Fowler is a wolf-shifter and pack alpha. After Kenton rescues him and takes him home to heal, he’s forced to remain in wolf form. But that doesn’t prevent him from falling hard for Kenton. It begins as jealousy, but Gray soon discovers Will, Kenton’s new admirer, is caught up in something sinister. However, he’s forced to wait until he’s healthy before he can shift and enter Kenton’s life as a man.

Review: Kenton rescues an injured wolf and takes him to a vet to be treated for his injuries. There he meets Will, the vet. He takes the wolf, who he names Rain whose actual name Gray Fowler and the alpha of his pack, home with him to recuperate. But Rain is not a normal wolf. He’s a shifter whose instincts are telling him something is sinister about Will. So he stays to keep a watch on Kenton and in the process falls for him.

It was amazing to read how Gray stayed n wolf form just so he could be with Kenton any way he could and protect. He stayed longer than he needed to but he didn’t really want to leave. But he knew he had no choice. It was heartbreaking to read Kenton’s reaction to finding Rain gone the next day. But he eventually meets Gray in human form and immediately is attracted to him.

This book has it all action, adventure, danger, romance, and shifters. Wonderfully written I could not put it down until the very end. I was shocked and disgusted at what Will was exactly doing. It broke my heart that people could be so cruel and callous to animals. Sexy Gray and handsome Kenton make sweet love compared to Will and Kenton’s hard and fast sex scenes.

Fantastic read. Highly recommended for all paranormal fans.

Review: For such a little book, it packed a lot in. Dirk gets to Ward Three it’s to deliver important information about the Mob Bosses that could finally take them down. The minute Dirk and Leon meet they are attracted to each other. Leon has been never attracted to a man enough to have a relationship with one. But Dirk holds his interest right away. So he takes a chance on him and it pays off. However with spies working for the Mob Boss betraying both Dirk and Leon they may not have much time. They need to get the information to a contact in another ward as soon as possible.

You do need to read the other books in the series to truly understand what is going on. There is an overall storyline about the resistance, the Mob Bosses, and the fight for Chicago. Each story is its own romance, and each couple has their part of getting the needed information to the people who can ultimately use it.

I liked this little snippet from the anthology. It was fast pace and an enjoyable read.
