All he has is his best friend and the center of the jock’s interest, the beautiful Kylie Bursnell. But Kylie is not your typical beauty. She hates the jocks even more than Kyle, especially Lucas Edward Johnson, a jock who is madly in love with her and Kyle’s forbidden dream. After a bizarre and freaky night, they swap bodies and are force to live each other’s live. Can this actually be true? Has Kyle’s dream come true? Will he be able to love Lucas Edward Johnson unconditionally until the end of time? Or is their love nothing but a beautiful dream enveloped in heartache and pain?

The Spirit Indestructible

The one thing that his soul and body need. After a late night out with his best friend, Kevin, Brad sees one of the most beautiful guys he has ever laid eyes on. But could the teen in front of him be real? Or is he the legendary hitching ghost that everyone talks about? Brad needs to find out and what he discovers shocks him and changes his young life forever…

The Lake View Psychopath

Jocks beware, he’s here and he’s not scared. Ashton Hall hates his existence at Lake View High. The jocks have made his life a living hell and his friends have completely turned their backs on him. Why? For being gay and dating the love of his life, Austin Young. Almost overnight, they became the center of every joke and every bully’s paradise. To make matters worse, even the school’s coach allows his ‘jock superstars’ to make fun of them.

But everything the night Austin Young is brutally murdered by the jocks and they walk free. Something snaps inside Ashton’s head and the only think he can think of is revenge. Will Ashton come to his sense and let Austin go? Or will he become one of the greatest serial killers of all time?

Caught in the Undertow by Helena Maeve

Series: N/A

Author:  Helena Maeve

Genre: New Adult Romance

Length:  241 pages

Publisher: Pride Publishing (29 March 2016)

Heat Level: Explicit

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

Blurb: Poison blooms in ivy halls.

New to the hallowed halls of the prestigious, all-male Ledwich University, Ward fully intends to skate by on wealth and minimal effort all the way to graduation. He has no desire to make friends or revive his interest in rowing, but when luck hands him the deciding vote over another student’s admission to the club, Ward chooses discretion over decency and finds himself juggling both.

Angry, bellicose Dylan is nothing like Ward’s wealthy peers. One of a handful of scholarship students, Dylan appears to have little sense of self-preservation and a grudge against the crew captain to match. But despite ruining his chances, Ward can’t get him out of his head.

As Ledwich slowly reveals its darker side and myriad cruelties begin to play out around and because of Ward, his fascination with Dylan becomes too much to conceal. Ward and Dylan may well be the products of two different worlds, but their chemistry burns too hot to ignore. If having him means hiding, then so be it. Ward may not be certain of much anymore, but what he wants, he gets.

Reader Advisory: This book contains dubious consent and coersion and scenes of attempted sexual assault, mental and physical abuse. This book also contains D/S dynamics and poor BDSM etiquette.

Publisher’s Note: This book is best read in conjunction with Surface Tension serial published with Totally Bound Publishing.

Review: This rather interesting read by Helena Maeve is the type of book that you pick up when you got the time to just plow through a book in a few hours and you just want to get caught up in drama other than your own. Caught in the Undertow is the type of young adult book that would not have universal appeal. As in, some young adult books easily work for people of most tastes, but I found that this was strictly a young adult book. I feel like that I’m being particularly blunt in my writing, but that is exactly how I feel.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the novel. It was full of passion – both on the water with the rowing team, and between the students of the prestigious Ledwich University. But I just couldn’t get completely taken away by it.

The book follows Ward, the son of a rich guy who has been kicked out of Yale and plans on just coasting by until he finally graduates uni. As his father brides Ward’s way into Ledwich Uni, Ward finds the rowing team holding tryouts. He may be a slacker but the guy can row.

This is where we are exposed to a host of unlikable and a handful of characters who could find redemption. The rowing team and its entourage are held together by bullies. It is also with the rowers that he observes Dylan. Dylan is shunned by most of the wealthy body of Ledwich Uni because he is a scholarship holder – basically, he’s poor.

However, Dylan represents the source of Ward’s redemption as he becomes more a man. His situation and Ward’s entrance into Dylan’s life also presents a change in direction for the exclusivity that the rowing team prided themselves on with their captain leading the charge.

I suspect some of the reason is purely because of the country where I am from and how we experience university, which is totally different to the US – to me it just felt like the guys were in their senior year of high school and lacked the independence that comes with university.

To me that is a particularly important connection to make since I am a postgraduate researcher and regularly teach undergraduates. The book reminded me somewhat of the movies School Ties (the one with Brendan Fraser where he is a Jewish kid post WWII and going to a prestigious school after receiving a scholarship) and Cruel Intentions (the movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar). I loved both movies, so I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing.

I’m finding it difficult pin point my exact feelings but the main reasons why I could not get into this was the intensely unlikable and extremely unrelatable characters. But I did enjoy the unfolding drama and the glimpses of redemption that were seen throughout the book.

If you like your school melodrama slightly on the evil side, hence the Cruel Intentions reference, this is the book for you.

Elemental Love by L.M. Somerton

Series: Warlocks, #1

Author: L.M. Somerton

Genre: Paranormal/ BDSM

Length: 165 pages

Publisher: Pride Publishing (March 29, 2016)

Blurb: An untrained warlock is a dangerous man to love.

On his twenty-first birthday, Evrain Brookes discovers he is an elemental warlock. The spell suppressing his talent lifts and he has to get used to a whole new existence. The protection that kept him safe during his childhood is gone, his skills are wild and uncontrolled and there are those that seek to use him for their own gain.

Evrain’s grandmother is a witch, his godfather another warlock. Between them they do their best to keep Evrain on the right path. He learns that in order to gain control of his formidable powers he will need to ‘channel’ through a life partner, a process that only happens with consent and through love. But how will he ever find a man prepared to put up with a Dominant warlock for a boyfriend?

Dominic Castine has no idea that Evrain’s grandmother sees him as a prospective partner for Evrain. He tends her garden and she teaches him about herbs–a tradeoff they both enjoy. He is drawn to Evrain’s charismatic presence but doesn’t understand why he wants to drop to his knees and submit to him.

When Agatha is murdered, Evrain and Dominic are thrown together as she manipulates them from beyond the grave. Dominic becomes the pawn in a terrifying game between warlocks whose powers he barely comprehends.

In the end, lives will depend on his courage, his willingness to grant Evrain control and the power of love.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of kidnap and a reference to attempted sexual assault.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: This author is new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the story. I was actually hoping for a lighter story with a bit of twist, however this one is a bit different then what I had expected.

Evrain’s grandmother had decided that the moment he was born she would bind his abilities till he was older. She was afraid that he would be taken. He was to be the strongest warlock around. He won’t be able to channel his powers the way he should till he finds a mate.

Dominic is clueless to it all. He loves working in the garden but somehow the old bat wants him to take an interest in Evrain. Even after she is murdered, she is controlling them both.

I like the twists to this story mixed in with the mystery, but it didn’t flow for me. It didn’t keep my attention like it should have which was disappointing. I hope that the second book comes off a bit more in tune.

Other than that it was well written and the characters were charming if not just a bit quirky. I can’t wait to see how the second book turns out.

Touch the Sky

by

Nyrae Dawn & Christina Lee

Lucas Barnett and Gabriel Stewart didn’t have it easy as kids. They were only trying to deal with bad situations at home when they became lifelines for each other. Their pipe dream was to someday meet in LA, where Lucas would design skyscrapers, and Gabriel would learn to fly. But then Gabriel disappeared without so much as a goodbye, and Lucas got himself in trouble with the law.

Five years later, both men are at a loss when they run into each other at a Hollywood bar. Lucas is still angry, but it’s not as if Gabriel could control how his mind and body had betrayed him. Being found on the ledge of that bridge had changed everything.

The attraction is immediate, but it’s more than their inability to keep their hands off each other. Neither man expects the fierce connection pulling them together. Unfortunately, ignoring their problems doesn’t make them disappear. Gabriel’s internal struggles are serious…dangerous. And no matter how much Lucas wants it to be true, saving Gabriel won’t make up for not being able to save his mom. If they don’t find the strength to face their own demons before the darkness takes hold, they risk more than just losing each other forever.

Reviewer: Aerin

Review: I have a hard time finding my words when it comes to writing a review for this one, and I had to wait a few days after finishing it, because I didn’t want any fucking tears on my laptop while writing the review.

This book is angst heavy people, really, really heartbreaking, and I wasn’t expecting it. I realized after reading the blurb that Oliver lost the love of his life (Sam) but never in a million years did I imagine I’d be crying my heart out while “living” through the whole series of events that led to Sam’s death.

I was hoping I didn’t get to meet Sam in this book, I thought for sure he would be already dead at the beginning, and once I realized that was not the case, I REALLY hoped I wouldn’t like him very much. WRONG!!! I LOVED HIM!!!…. for as little as I got to know him, I loved Sam and thought he was perfect for Oliver. There was lots of crying people, like “tear-your-heart-out” crying, because that’s what it felt like when Sam died and Oliver submerged into his grief.

When the period of grieving got a little easier to read through, I seriously doubted that I’d like Thomas and Oliver together. Sam was just too perfect for Oliver and I couldn’t imagine Thomas taking his place. I gotta give it to Indra, because she managed to make me love Thomas and accept him as a suitable replacement for Sam.

In fact, I really didn’t have to compare them to one another because to me, Thomas wasn’t any sloppy seconds. The dude is hot as fuck, and he’s been in love with Oliver for years,. Since the very first time they met. Thomas kept his feelings to himself because he realized what Sam and Oliver had was special,.  I can’t imagine how bad it hurt him to be close friends with them, watch them be so in love with each other, and know deep down that the only person he’s ever loved will never his.

And then…. there’s a baby! I’m telling you people, there’s nothing hotter than a half-naked Thomas holding a sleeping baby on his chest! Whew, be advised ladies, your hearts will melt and your panties will catch fire, because Thomas+baby is just that adorably hot! There was some humor after the baby came to live with Thomas and Oliver, because nasty baby diapers and projectile vomit on unsuspecting men is freaking hilarious, and after all that angst, the humor was more than welcome.

I love angst in my books, it’s usually a must for me, but this was a dash too much even for me. Or maybe not exactly too much angst, but not enough happy times to overcompensate for all the suffering I’ve done. My philosophy is if you’re going to make me bleed for your books (go ahead, I like it) give me at LEAST the same amount of happy, joyful, and don’t forget sexy times to make up for it. I didn’t feel like I got enough happy, and I definitely didn’t get enough sexy. I know Indra can write a sex scene hot enough to catch my IPad on fire, so I was disappointed we didn’t get more “set-the-sheets-on-fire” times.

Another thing that prevented me from giving this book 5 stars was Cleo, Imran, and all that drama that came from Thomas sleeping with Cleo (relax, it was before him and Oliver got together). This was an angst-heavy book to start with, so I felt that all the secondary characters’ drama was unnecessary and unwelcome. Please don’t think this is one of those dramatic books that make you role your eyes, because it’s really NOT, but even the realistic drama added too much heaviness to the book.

Overall this was a great book, nicely written, but don’t make the mistake of starting it without a ton of tissues handy. And yes, there’s a HEA (a beautiful one, full of smiles and warm feelings), so you won’t be suffering in vain.

Review: These two authors are new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Normally I can pick up a book and read it straight through. However with this one, it was the exact opposite. It is a well written story with beautiful characters, but there is also this darkness to the story. Which I suppose has to do with one of the guys being bipolar. It talks about their times away from each other and their time together.

It is a very touching story about two young men who meet online and plan to get away from their lives. They are both a bit scared of coming out to their families but like all young people they never really think of the truth. They get caught up in life and lose touch with each other only to find each other after a few years have gone past.

Gabe is bipolar who just wanted to get away. He ends up hospitalized and is unable to contact Lucas. Lucas feels that he has been abandoned and gets in trouble with the law. He ends up in juvie and must find a way to get his life back on track.

Five years down the road they see each other and things don’t really go as planned. Lucas is pissed and his heart is aching. Whereas Gabe needs to get his life in order and back on the meds. They need to learn to forgive and start to love one another.

Now this story is just told a bit strange for me so I couldn’t really get into it. Like I said above it has a dark tone to it but not as much pain as one would think. It did flow pretty good at just the right pace but to me the story just didn’t rock right. I did like the characters but I really hope that the next book is not about these two.

I am not really much into romance stories with mental issues, so I am not really sure what grabbed my attention with this particular story. It has a few parts that just seem to repeat, which for me was a drag.

Overall, the story was pretty good with some tender heart areas. However I do realize that it was not for me.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Lucifer and his men questioned god, and it ended them up in hell. Lucifer was made the Lord of hell and his men were the demons. If they should find love, then they might be brought back to heaven. After Dantalion fell in love with Shane, god decided to step in. He has given Dantalion the permission to undue the sale, if he thought the person redeemed themselves.

Which brings us to book two, which I have to say was perfect. It was still a bit dark but the story just rocked. Syd was Shane’s best friend and he missed him. At one time he had a crush on the man, but his heart was still with Sam. Sam was the one he wanted but couldn’t have. That is until the deal was made and things heated up. Now these two are ones that definitely can’t communicate worth crap. So many misunderstandings lead to a big old heart ache.

This story has a serious tone to it with very little humor in it. Maggie Walsh has given a new fresh idea in this book. One that I was not sure would actually work, but this book proved me wrong. It was fun and exciting with a bit of freak to it. Although the ending shocked me, I can admit that it was a pretty good ending.

There are some crazy twists to this one and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the story. The characters were well written and fully developed.

I enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

Review: This is the first book in the Dead Camp series.

This was an interesting story. Eli an ancient vampire who has a past shrouded in mystery. There are a few characters in the book that aid Eli through his journey.

A mysterious young man shows up and Eli tries to remember if he knows him or not. He feels as though he should. I liked the history aspect of the story. It’s set in Germany when Nazi’s occupied it. So it definitely had its dark side throughout the story. There are Angels, demons, vampires and ghosts in this story.

There were surprising twists that had me on the edge of my seat awaiting the outcome. I loved the story except for the m/f part. Although I liked the book I did not like the brief m/f scene. There was no need for it and I’m an m/m reader only.

Great read.

Review: I don’t know what I was really expecting but I can tell you that it was not these six stories. I have never been a fan of anthologies and I am afraid that the idea has not changed. I am also not a fan of fairy tales, even if it involves gorgeous men. I have to admit though that the first one was a laugh.

DRAGGED INTO LOVE ♥♥♥3 Hearts

When Theo’s landlord steals a prized guitar in lieu of rent owed, he informs Theo he will return the instrument on one condition: he wants a date with Theo’s twin sister.

Except that there is a twist to it all. His sister has another idea on how to get back what was his. However he finds out that there is a bit more going on.

Now this is a cute story but way to damn short for anything other than a taste. I wouldn’t mind if it was made into an actual story but as it is, I was disappointed in it. It has a little plot or story line but mainly it just didn’t go well with me.

LOVE’S CODE ♥♥♥3 Hearts

Andre must pass the examination if he wants to keep his job. However, he is distracted by his unspoken love for fellow programmer, Eren.

This was way too short to get anything more than just a tease from it. Andre has a goal but the one that interest him is distracting him big time. It is kind of a cute little story, but doesn’t really do anything for me.

GUESSING GAMES ♥♥♥3 Hearts

Sasha told a little white lie in his job interview and it won him the role. Only now he is faced with a pile of work he doesn’t know how to complete.

Well in one part at least it will teach Sasha a lesson but in the other damn he gets his man. This is just too damn short to actually get into. I was a bit disappointed in it.

ASSIGNATIONS AND ULTIMATUMS ♥♥♥3 Hearts

Hunter and Ross are in love, but Ross’ father keeps trying to set him up with undesirable, yet powerful, older men, the latest of whom happens to be Ross’ boss.

I just don’t get it, why have a great idea and make it a short story. I mean it is not just short but very short. It was a dang tease. These two were hot together but damn it was a bust.

LOST AND FOUND ♥♥♥3 Hearts

Cillian is dreading the work masquerade ball, but once there he finds himself romanced by a dashing stranger, only to flee when he discovers the man’s identity.

A masquerade ball and the little man loses his shoe and the prince will find him. I mean fairy tales sounding. Which I suppose it was one just a bit changed. It was too damn short to get anything more than just a taste.

A DEBT IS A DEBT ♥♥♥3 Hearts

Dunstan Griffin is not a man to let a debt slide, so when debtor Alfred Siskin offers the EA services of his son, Wynn, in lieu of payment, Dunstan accepts.

I know the feeling of needing to pay off a debt but damn this was just twisted. I am sorry but it was not even appeasing at all.

Overall

I gave each story a three but to me they were actually a two heart rating. For one they were just a teaser and didn’t really give me a story at all. Then they are based off of fairy tales with a twist. Which for me was a disappointment all the way around.  I just couldn’t even get into it and that is saying a lot considering that they were so damn short.

Review: Heath is book 3 of the Invitation Only series, I think you could read it without reading the others since there is good backstory drop, but I believe you would enjoy it better if you have read the other two.

Heath is a new Dom at Invitation only. He is immediately taken by the pretty bartender Micah. When Micah is brought in for his demonstration he is ecstatic, until he finds out that Micah isn’t into the BDSM scene.  When Heath finds out that Micah’s boyfriend is a druggie he sees his chance.

I really liked this story. My only issue is I felt it focused more on Micah than Heath.  I would have loved to have seen more scenes with Heath. Now having said that, I loved the drag show scenes and felt like I was there watching and loved Ricky, Mav and Mams.  There were a lot of characters in this story.

Though I love characters and all of these I think it was just too many for such a short story. I have to say Patricia Logan has a way of developing very intriguing characters, and writes some smoking hot sex scenes.

If you like sexy bartenders, hot cowboy Doms, BDSM, Drag Queens, knights in shining armour, and smoking hot man-sex this is definitely for you!

Review: This is the ninth book in the Bear Mountain series.

Tyler McCreary doesn’t want to submit to two bears. He was raised not to submit to anyone. Amid caring for his younger brothers he tries to fight the feelings he is having for Dimitri and Barron.

Tyler doesn’t want anyone’s help with his brothers. He almost sees help as a weakness. His pride and stubbornness almost gets his brothers hurt. Dimitri and Barron never thought they’d ever find their mate. Let alone deserve one after the things they have done, though in actuality it was not of their choosing.

I really liked this story as Dimitri and Barron show Tyler the love and affection he has been missing most of his life. The McCreary brothers seemed liked a rambunctious bunch. I laughed at their antics and was horrified at what they had been through. I so wanted to see them live their lives without fear and be happy little boys.

Sometimes things are not as bad as you think it is when someone offers help. It doesn’t make you small or weak. Sometimes you end up finding much more happiness than you ever thought possible.

Highly recommended.

Review: This story, The Worst Bad Thing, by J.E. Birk caught me off guard. It wasn’t the story that I thought was going to play out after reading the blurb. That’s not a bad thing, however, quite the contrary because I really enjoyed the journey. The author is new to me, but I connected fairly easy to their writing style.

We meet Tate after something obviously bad has happened to him, we just don’t know what it is. As the story unfolds we get more clarity to what he has playing out in his mind and he obviously feels as though he needs to make penance for his mistakes. He’s suffered a terrible tragedy that he lives day in and day out, over and over, in his mind.

He’s on a mission to travel and see certain destinations such as Stonehenge, Iceland, London, and Paris. He has reasons for these particular places and he hopes it helps in some small way make up for what has happened. On the plane he meets Gabriel, someone he instantly feels attraction and starts a conversation. I think Tate felt a comfort with Gabe because he didn’t know him, he didn’t know what he had done, and therefore he couldn’t judge him.

Gabe definitely was in the right place at the right time because he had a way with Tate that made him relax and remember what life was like before the accident. He’s very patient and understanding with Tate and only wants to do what he’s comfortable with. Gabe has his own reasons for going to London but while he has some extra free time he spends it with Tate and showing him the sights.

Tate and Gabriel have a lot in common. They, both, live in Denver, and while Tate is going through and experiencing PTSD right now in the present, Gabe has had his own battles with it in the past. He recognizes the signs giving him a better understanding of Tate.

As Tate and Gabe sightsee around London, Stonehenge, etc. I really was taken in by the way the author described what they were seeing or tasting. At times, I felt like I could see what they were looking at in that moment.

Even though Tate is enjoying his time with Gabriel, he doesn’t feel that he deserves that right. He hasn’t come clean completely with Gabe about everything that happened and he doesn’t plan too. However, an unexpected friend sees more to Tate and knows what dark thoughts he is carrying, and he takes matters into his own hands to try to help.

From the beginning, we know there has been a tragedy that affected a lot of people. Tate is young and cocky before the accident but now his life has been devastated and destroyed. I was really moved by the way the author puts the reader inside Tate’s head and we live there with him through the book. It’s a very emotional yet uplifting journey.

The angst level was low but at the same time Tate really pulls on your heartstrings. He’s suffered greatly for something that wasn’t necessarily his fault although it could have been prevented. Sometimes the best lessons in life are the ones where we have to make our own mistakes and pick up the pieces from there.

Tate isn’t really trying to pick up his pieces because he’s already decided how it’s going to play out, but sometimes our paths cross with something or someone entirely unexpected and it may just be the best thing that could happen instead of the worst bad thing.

Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to others. It is a story of hope and redemption. Some things fell into place a little too easily, but I believe fate was working to help Tate. I would love to see a follow-up with Tate and Gabriel making it back home and see if things continued to work out for them.

Grant Adams is a twenty-six-year-old bank teller who’s unlucky at love, yet hopelessly hopeful. After years of horrific first dates, he’s convinced he’s saving himself for true love. Surely he has bad taste in men because it couldn’t possibly be his persnickety nature that’s sent them packing.

Tristan Carr has been in a holding pattern since his daughter was born fifteen years ago, which suits his workaholic lifestyle just fine. This ex–naval officer turned auto mechanic never wanted anyone interfering with being a weekend dad. For Tristan to rearrange his carefully orchestrated life, a guy will need to be special.

Review:  I’m pretty sure this is the first book I’ve read by Wade Kelly – can’t find any in my library – and after reading Bankers’ Hours, I really want to find more of her work. The writing style was just so easy to lose myself in. However, this is one of those books where I read – totally love it – but I know that for a lot of people who it could be potentially hit and miss.

Bankers’ Hours is the story of Grant Adams, he’s got a job as a bank clerk after graduating from university with an accounting degree. After the branch where he worked closed down he saw the opportunity to relocate to another branch as an opportunity to refresh and revitalize his life.

He’s a straight-laced type of guy who needs an injection of passion – not just the romantic kind – into his life and pronto! At the new branch he meets Tristan Carr and the two hit it off. So much so that they end up in a very permanent fix very quickly.

In his thirties, Tristan also has a teenage daughter who as a completely delightful character along with her two friends. Tristan’s car is, rather predictably, the unstable character of the book and makes things move forward in a big way. Her back story is also interesting, though I felt that there could have had a bit more to her story, it was a little weak at first.

And this is where I know that it will be hit and miss to a lot of people – part of Grant and Tristan’s relationship, the two guys staying together and actually making it relies very heavily on insta-love. The fact that Grant is one of those types where anything and everything happens to them, if only by accident, doesn’t help the situation either.

Regardless, this is a truly fun and easy read. Grant’s voice as he tells the story is just perfect – I was never left wondering about what Tristan could have been thinking (though the guy is a bit of a drama queen).

If you don’t like insta-love, then probably best to stay away or you’ll just get frustrated. Otherwise, I kinda think this is a universally appealing romance.

Review:  This is a first go for me into the writing of Shira Anthony. It was a pretty damn good first go, too. This recent bundle released by Dreamspinner Press is a collection of the 7 books featured in the Blue Notes series. I am not about to go into detail of each book, as it is, I rate all of the books a solid 4 out of 5.

On the whole, this is a thoroughly enjoyable series and just so easy to read. The fact that Shira Anthony actually gives us dates to mark the passage of time makes it so easy to follow. Each book centers on a difference couple and somehow they all know each other, whether it is through practicing law in Chicago, or have links to the symphony orchestra or opera in either France or Chicago.

The plots are engaging and the characters are not only relatable and likable, but it found myself totally invested in their stories.

This is the type of series for people who love characters that have a strong background in music, more so classical and jazz because this is the centre of the entire world that has been created. The relationships just felt so real, including the ups and downs experienced by each couple.

Yet at the same time sometimes the characters suffered from frustrating cases of lack of communication! The only real criticism I have for it is that sometimes the books seemed to drag, when the “action” slowed down and sometimes led to awkward jumps in time. I wonder if it would have been better in these instances to make the jump to the next “scene” or “time” earlier would have made the reads better.

I think one important note to make, which has also been brought up on Goodreads as well, that the order of publication (which is how the books are bundled together here) is actually not the chronological reading order. At least to me that makes a BIG difference in knowing that. If you are someone like me and is big on numbers and try to reconcile everything in a series, particularly when dates are given, you might want to take this into account.

In the book/order of publication: Blue Notes, The Melody Thief, Aria, Prelude, Encore, Symphony in Blue and Dissonance.

Chronological order: Encore, Prelude, Blue Notes, Aria, The Melody Thief, Symphony in Blue and Dissonance.

(Double Alchemy Book 01)
by

Susan Mac Nicol

Powerful yet tormented modern warlock Quinn Fairmont must initiate the silver-eyed Cade Mairston into the world of witchfinders, Withinners, and what can happen when two men fall truly, madly, deeply in love.

THE WORLD IN SHADOW

In modern London there lurks a warlock, Quinn Fairmont. Dangerous, powerful, tortured, sharing his body with the soul of an ancient Welsh sorcerer, Quinn is never alone—and never wholly himself. He fights against all those who would exploit his kind. He takes pleasure where he can find it.

In the forest of Hampstead Heath, Quinn’s hometown, Cade Mairston appears to him like a waking dream. Lithe, lean and silver-eyed, he evokes feelings in Quinn unlike any other: lust with true affection, immediate and shocking. Cade is clearly more than he seems. And yet, if a man of the world, Cade is innocent. He knows nothing of warlocks, witchfinders or Withinners. He knows nothing of what he is, what he might be, or what he might feel. For him, the story is just beginning. Magyck, peril and passion await.

 Susan Mac Nicol

Powerful modern warlock Quinn Fairmont found ecstasy with the silver-eyed and not-quite-human Cade Mairston, but to know true happiness the pair must best both the shadow of a long-ago lover and an ancient enemy who seeks to destroy love, light and all they hold dear.

A BLINDING LIGHT

It begins with a Book of Shadows discovered by a London coven. The grimoire is as dangerous as it is rare, which is why it evokes modern-day warlock Quinn Fairmont’s desire. He collects objects of great power and beauty—like his lover, Cade Mairston.

Against all odds he and Cade found each other, but their perils have just begun. First is the ex-lover who once held Quinn in thrall. And, someone has been killing warlocks. Could it be one of his own kind? There are those too who would challenge Quinn’s power in their quest to overthrow him as Grand Master. Or is the danger something darker, something invoked inadvertently, rising from the shadows, building from the very inside of a man until it brings an end with a quick flash of light? Of the truth, the surface has only been scratched. Now Quinn and Cade must go deeper and find both answers and an end. They must learn what lurks in the hearts of men…and whether it seeks to love or destroy.
