Bankers’ Hours

by

Wade Kelly

Even though bankers’ hours leave long weekends for romance, cosmic intervention is Grant’s only option when money doesn’t buy happiness and he’s got virginity in spades.

Grant Adams is a twenty-six-year-old bank teller who’s unlucky at love, yet hopelessly hopeful. After years of horrific first dates, he’s convinced he’s saving himself for true love. Surely he has bad taste in men because it couldn’t possibly be his persnickety nature that’s sent them packing.

Tristan Carr’s life has been in a holding pattern since his daughter was born. Fifteen years later, he’s still alone and that suits his workaholic lifestyle just fine. For Tristan to rearrange his workaholic lifestyle and weekend fatherhood, a guy needed to be special. Or in the case of the newest employee at his bank, the guy would need to be adorable, shy, and open to the prospect of forever when it shows up at his window.

Release date: 25th March 2016

Wade Kelly!

Hello lovely readers. This is Wade Kelly stopping by to talk a little about my new book, Bankers’ Hours. It releases through Dreamspinner Press on March 25th. In preparation, I have come up with 10 different guest-posts on 10 different blogs to give you a fun way to get to know MY CHARACTERS and ME. As in many blog tours, I am offering prizes! See the list is below.

For this stop, I wanted to tell you a little more about the main character, Grant Adams. In the past, I have said online that all my characters are me and/or have bits of me in them from personality traits to jobs, etc. With Grant, he has a little bit of my persnickety nature and he works in a bank. I worked in a bank for a year!

So lets go ahead and pretend this is an interview with Match.com or Dating.com or some sort of dating website where he would have to answer personal questions about himself.

Interview with Grant Adams, the Main Character of Bankers’ Hours by Wade Kelly

Question: Please tell us your name and some specifics about you.

Answer: My name is Grant Adams. I’m 26. I’m not very good at dating so I came here in hopes of finding someone compatible.

Question: What is your occupation?

Answer: I’m a bank teller. I worked in a branch in Columbia, Maryland for several years, but recently I moved to the Westminster branch of the same bank. I like counting other peoples’ money.

Question: Do you have any hobbies?

Answer: Not really. I like baking, but that’s mainly because I like eating. I like cupcakes. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, or at least I used to before I moved. I also play mah-jongg with my mom sometimes.

Question: Tell us some of the things you like.

Answer: I already said I like cupcakes. I also like doughnuts or cake of any kind. I use to watch the TV show Glee until the show ended. I have all the music. I like watching movies. My best friend and I used to watch movies almost every weekend. I’ve seen every movie Vin Diesel has every made, and I’m pretty fond of Nicolas Cage.

Question: How about your dislikes?

Answer: Dirty hands. I absolutely can’t stand dirty hands. It might have to do with the fact I count money all day, but I really like to wash my hands every moment I’m able. I also don’t like disorder and clutter. Everything has its place and I normally put my things away right after I use them. Oh, and I’d rather not date a guy who rarely showers. I like the fresh, clean scent… maybe with a hint of grapefruit.

Question: Describe for us your ideal man.

Answer: I’d really like for the guy to be romantic. I’ve always wanted someone who would buy me flowers and chocolates on Valentine’s Day. He’s got to be muscular and tall. Tall is a must. I’m six foot, and I don’t see myself bending down more than an in or two to kiss him. Not that he can’t be shorter than me, but I’d prefer someone taller so I could lift up in my toes to kiss him like the heroine’s do in old black and white movies.

Question: What are some of your turn-offs?

Answer: We sort have already covered this. I like a man who smells good. I understand working up a hard sweat while on the job, but I don’t really want to snuggle up to the grime of the day when he gets home. A guy who trudges home and doesn’t shower right away is not going to win any points with me. Personal hygiene is very important.

Question: For the last question, go with your gut answer. Don’t think too deeply about it. Are you into kink, or no kink?

Answer: I’m pretty vanilla, I guess. I think I’d be open to try things, although I’m a little scared as to what kinds of things someone would suggest. I’m not a prude, I’m…. Well, ya see, I’m… a virgin. I’m a 26-year-old virgin who has no clue what I’m doing and I hope someone out there won’t think me too pathetic to date.

Okay. Those are all the questions we have for now. Is there anything you’d like to say in summary?

Answer: To anyone out there who is mildly interested, I’d like to say there’s more to me than a questionnaire. I’m a good cook, I’m frugal, and I promise to ask if you’re allergic to seafood before I order lobster bisque in French. Thank you.

Again, this is Wade Kelly stopping by MM Good Book Reviews to talk about my up coming novel, Bakers’ Hours.

Here is a short excerpt with Grant!

Sunday evening I stood in front of the mirror trying to figure out what to wear. Every shirt I owned looked like I was going to work. What was the appropriate attire for a pub? “T-shirt and jeans, probably,” I told myself. I owned one pair of jeans and zero T-shirts. I had seven white undershirts, so I figured if I unbuttoned the front of one of my dress shirts and rolled up the sleeves, it could pass for casual. But which color?

I opened my closet and peered down the line of pressed dress shirts organized by color. Mel was right when he said they were very Easter-eggy. Pastel purple, which was technically lavender, baby blue, sage green, butter, salmon, and three shades of pink—holy crap, I realized I had the entire Easter rainbow lined up in my closet.

I dropped my head back and groaned. No wonder I was undateable.

“I could rearrange them,” I mused, lifting a handful of hangers off the rod and rehanging them in a different order.

I stood there for a full sixty seconds before the chaos overwhelmed me. “Now it looks like Easter threw up,” I said, correcting my mistake. Once they were back in the appropriate spots, I chose a blue one. Blue was good and manly even if it was baby blue. Besides, Tristan had seen this shirt before, and I wasn’t out to impress him. It was a casual beer, much like grabbing lunch with Mel.

I heard a knock and took one last look in the mirror before heading to answer it.

That is all for now. Visit my next blog stop for more.

  4. Thanks for the interview! I totally relate with the dirty hands bit. I could never be a bank teller – I have to wash my hands (or at least sanitize them) every time after touching money. Credit cards are a great thing for me. 😉
