In the wake of several near-cataclysmic events, humanity created the Cure, a DNA-altering antidote to death by disease and old age. But all cures come with side effects: a small percentage of the population develops a wide range of powers, some of which are lethal to others, and some which are lethal to the wielder.

These people are called the Estranged, hunted and shunned, safe only on the Island of Exile. It is here that Kaeva and Eddie meet—and where they set a prophecy in motion, quite possibly sealing their own demise, and even the end of Exile.

Welcome to the Breaker (Exile, Volume 1) Blog Tour and Giveaway! We’re both super excited about this new release and thrilled to be able to share it with you. The Character Discussion

Kelly Wyre: So today’s character is one of the first I sort of dreamed up for the island. He’s fun, smart, caring…

AF Henley: Tell them about his arms!

KW: …an integral part of the Medical system. A guy who can always calm patients down when they’re ready to climb walls…

AFH: Yeah, but tell them about his ARMS!

KW: His name’s even cool. Frost! I mean… hello? Who wouldn’t want to do this kid?

AFH: YEAH BUT TELL THEM ABOUT HIS ARMS!

KW: Oh! Right. That. Okay. There is a wee tiny little itty bitty thing… that might… detract… from say, hand jobs…

AFH: *nods vigorously*

Excerpt

“All right, Mr. Florence, we’re going to perform some minor surgery, now.”

“You are?” Eddie asked, groggy.

“Yep.” Frost stepped up and smiled sympathetically at Eddie. “Here’s the thing, man, you’re going to remember all this later, word for word. In fact, I know you’re in there, clawing to wake up and pay attention, but just chill, okay? I ain’t gonna let any pain even come close to you, got me?”

“I don’t like this shit,” Eddie said without any emotion.

“Nobody does, bro,” Frost said.

Kaeva wanted to scratch at his own skin, which had broken out in goosebumps. He started to go outside, dying for a little fresh air and sunshine.

“Make him stop,” Eddie said, and it should have sounded panicked, but didn’t.

“Kaeva, my man, do our brother here a favor and stay put, okay?” Frost asked. “You ain’t exactly a comfort to anybody who really knows you, but you be all he does know, feel me?”

“He’s scarier ‘n all ‘a you,” Eddie said, more or less coherently.

Without answering, Kaeva went back to his post at the front desk, steadying himself for what was to come.

“Cool. And speaking of, your arm’s about to get a whole lot cooler.” Frost took off one of his gloves. His arm from the elbow down was blackened and bony, the veins standing out in stark paths beneath deadened skin.

“Fuck me, does that hurt?” Eddie asked.

Review: Oh my goodness was this book simply mind-blowing. The estranged were fascinating in their abilities. No two were alike. The way the estranged were treated outside Exile was atrocious to say the least. If you were one of the lucky ones then you could escape to an island called Exile. 

Exile was a sanctuary for estranged. Governed and run by estranged. It was amazing how they all contributed on this island to keep off the radar of the government. It was virtually an invisible island thanks to the efforts of different estranged. Eddie swims to this island and there he meets Kaeva. Eddie has the ability to hear bad people’s thoughts. Kaeva can short out any electrical device or a person. Kaeva is loner with good reason so is confounded when the island kings, Luke and Oberon, require him to meet and take in Eddie when he arrives.

I don’t want to give too much away but needless to say it’s a fantastic story with heart stopping, tense, heart-warming and sarcastic scenes that lead the reader deeper into the story about the estranged. I truly cannot say enough good things about it. I highly recommend it. 

Fantastic read. I’m looking forward to reading more.
