The Voices in My Head

Hi lovelies! I hope everyone is doing great today. I’m thrilled to be here today visiting with you guys. Collateral Damage has been doing so well in the Mystery section of LGBT fiction! Trevor and Logan waited a long time for me to finish their story. I started it way back in 2013! The reason for the delay…there were voices in my head that were a bit louder than Trevor and Logan which is why I’m writing this post.

Most of my Facebook friends and family know my alter ego, Malachi “Lachi” Denali. Lachi is a vampire king in the Crimson Nights Saga, but before that he was my online role-play character. He and his angel Laziel (who is written by my wife and writing partner) interacted and played on Facebook every day. He made loyal wonderful friends who are still with me.

Lachi talks to me all day, every day. No kidding. He’s got a wicked sense of humor and his mind lives in the gutter. Okay, my mind lives in the gutter and Lachi gets blamed for it. But, he’s the best kind of alter ego. He does all of my promo work when a book comes out. He is responsible for my foundation fan base. Most of my family and friend connections on Facebook were forged through his page. He is me and vice versa. And, I’m ok with him getting all of the attention; he’s a hawt assed vampire king…much more entertaining than an ordinary Southern girl.

Besides Lachi, I have an entire locker room up there roaming around. As most writers will probably agree, the characters never leave us and new ones show up every day. All of them clamor for their stories to be told. As I said above, I started Collateral Damage in 2013. V.L. and I were in the process of writing Crimson Ties and were tossing around ideas for Broken Oaths. I had my hands full and then I talked to my son who had just played a softball game. He was telling me about his game and one of the players named Ansleigh. Yeah, my Lachi friends and family, you see where this is going!  Ansleigh showed up in my head. He was large and LOUD. He told me he lived in a Grotto and he wanted his HEA. He introduced me to Dylan and they would not leave me alone. I was writing at work, writing at home, trying to get them to wait because I couldn’t write while driving in traffic. The voices were there, constantly!

Right now, Lachi is being demanding. He wants us working on book three in the series. Vischeral Bourne is chomping at the bit, too. He’s separated from his Copi. But, the loudest at the moment is a character in the series that the readers haven’t met yet! His name is Shaver. He’s usually really laid back and quiet, one of the quietest in my crazy menagerie, but he is desperately in love. He’s tugging at my heart and whispering in my ear.

Some have asked me why I don’t write F/F or even mainstream romance. That answer is relatively easy. To date, the females just aren’t speaking to me. It could be because I grew up with four rambunctious active brothers and then had two boys of my own. I’ve always been surrounded by males and their testosterone. Some of it must have stuck. And, I ain’t gonna lie (had to go all Southern on ya there)…two guys together and in love, that rocks my socks!

Well, hopefully, you guys don’t think I’m totally nuts. If you do, that’s okay, too. My daughter says I need a huggie jacket and a padded room most days. I told her that’s fine as long as they give me the internet and computer so I can keep writing what the voices tell me.

I hope that you guys read Collateral Damage and if you do, please come find me or Lachi on Facebook and let us know what you think.

Happy Reading!

From the corner of his eye, Trevor saw his friend rake a hand through his immaculate hair. “As much as I want to know what happened in Miami, that’s your biz. But, I’m here if you need me. Okay?”

Trevor nodded jerkily. “Thanks, but no. I appreciate it, but I can’t talk about it. Not now, maybe not ever. I better head to work.” He spun toward the door and stiffened when Noah’s hand fell on his shoulder. He barely caught the snarl roiling in his throat, but there was no stopping the shudder that worked through his body. It carried clearly to the other man. Noah snatched his hand back. The silence stretched between them.

“Come home for dinner tonight,” Noah spoke quietly. “Turning into a workaholic won’t solve anything.”

Trevor nodded again, one bob of his head and escaped through the door. At the station, he parked and climbed out. Good thing about arriving so early, the heat and humidity didn’t have time to raise a sweat before he entered the building. He dropped into the chair behind his desk, powered up his computer and stared at the empty email box. Sighing, he yanked another cold case file in front of him. He flipped the folder open and started to read.

He was comparing witness statements in a three year old murder when a shadow loomed over his desk. He glanced up. Eyes bluer than any sky sucked the air from his lungs. A devastating smile curved Logan’s mouth.

“Noah said I’d find you here. He also said you left home really early. Have you had breakfast?” Dressed in jeans and a red t-shirt that stretched tight over solid muscle, the large man filled the station with his presence.

“Uh, no. I wasn’t hungry. Can I help you with something?” Trevor flipped the case file closed.

“Yeah, have breakfast with me,” Logan said. Trevor’s eyes darted around the precinct, but it was still early enough most of the desks were empty. Shift change, such as it was, wouldn’t occur for another hour.

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” he hedged.

“Why? I’m not a suspect in a case, and I won’t bite you unless you ask,” the other man teased. Trevor’s eyes did the look-see around the station again.

“No one’s here but the dispatcher and she can’t hear me. Geez, Trevor, it’s not a date or anything, just two new friends having breakfast.” With his big body blocking the move from anyone’s view, Logan reached out and ran a lean finger from just below Trevor’s ear to his collar. Immediately, the disquiet of Trevor’s face-to-face with Noah settled. Trevor stared up at Logan, his confusion apparent on his face.

“You are one dangerous man,” he blurted. Logan’s eyebrows shot up near his hairline.

“Excuse me?” The look on Logan’s face mirrored Trevor’s earlier expression. Wariness was quickly replaced by devastating dimples. “Have you been checking up on me?” The easy smile returned and Logan popped a squat on the edge of his desk.

“No I haven’t. I’m working so if you don’t mind…”

“I’m not leaving until you agree to have some kind of meal with me,” Logan interrupted.

“Pushy aren’t you,” Trevor groused.

“You have no idea. So what’ll it be; breakfast, lunch, dinner? All three?”

“All three?”

“Excellent,” Logan crowed and stood up.

“That was a question, mister. How do you know you want to eat one meal with me, let alone three? I don’t even know your last name.”

“Andrews. Problem solved, now let’s go eat.” Logan’s stomach rumbled. “See, you’re letting me starve with all this talk.”

“Technically, I haven’t agreed to anything.” Trevor lifted a brow at the smiling man. “Andrews? Stella’s son?” Logan leaned down and his smile broadened. Those killer dimples deepened into lean cheeks. Trevor’s mouth dried. The man was far too good looking for his own damned good.

“Yup, that’s me. Now, if you don’t get your technical ass out of that chair, Detective, I’m going to toss you over my shoulder and carry you out. My stomach’s trying to eat my spine.”

“You could always try Andrews, but don’t be too sure of yourself,” Trevor shot back. The light of challenge lit in those stunning blue eyes. It drove Trevor to his feet. “Okay fine, you want me; you got me.” A smug smile slid over Logan’s lush lips. “Breakfast only. No funny stuff. And I have some questions about that missing tractor.”

Logan backed away, but mischief played in his eyes. “Whatever do you mean, Detective? I’m a model citizen.” His brow furrowed slightly. “What missing tractor?”
