Blurb: Aidan has always played it safe. Instead of pursuing his dream of creating innovative music that makes his soul sing, he settled for a degree in software, a job in a cubicle, and a spot in a generic band with his buddies.

And he’s always been straight. But when he’s seduced by magnetic local literary luminary Dario, Aidan must decide whether to keep playing it safe, or succumb to a ravenous passion and a nourishing love unlike anything he’s experienced before. Will he find the courage to go after real happiness if it means admitting he’s in love with a man?

Their journey together isn’t easy. Sometimes it isn’t safe. Even if Aidan has the courage to admit he’s in love with Dario, can he endure the repercussions of the traumatic event in Dario’s past?

Review: Varian Krylov is a new author to me, but one that I am very happy to have discovered. In this release of Dangerously Happy, she brings us a story that is not necessarily a new storyline but she has put a new twist on it that will pull you in and keep you glued to the pages. It is a dark read at times, the sexual content is very explicit, but it fits the story and will have you completely captivated.

Lets meet Aidan – single due to a recent break-up with his long-term girlfriend, plays the guitar and sings in a band, very handsome but doesn’t seem to know it himself. Not really happy in his day-to-day job but is good at his job. Trying to pacify his father, he chose a business degree instead of music, which was his lifeline. He belongs to a small time band that practises a few nights a week at a friend’s loft and performs gigs on the weekends. He has never considered himself anything other than a straight male. He’s kind of a loner sometimes, doesn’t feel he really fits in with the other guys in the band. The guys, almost always, stay after practise to smoke weed and tell tales about their women experiences from the nights before. Aidan stays on occasion, falling in line with his buddies, but most of them appear immature. After 10 years of just playing as if they have a band, Aidan wants to have one for real.

Now, let’s meet Dario. Charismatic, charming, good-looking, confidant or so he appears to those in his presence. He has a loft with a large space that he lets different people occupy almost nightly, whether it be artists or bands. What he doesn’t let others see is he is a damaged soul. He has some very traumatic experiences from his past that he still has not completely gotten over. He portrays someone who has everything and not afraid to go after what he doesn’t. Everyone knows he is gay, it’s not a secret, and no one seems to be bothered by it. He is a very generous man, always giving to others.

What you will learn about him as you read on is he is also scared. At his core, he feels weak and frightened. For three years, he has watched Aidan from afar. He notices everything about him, is intrigued by him, yet still keeps his distance. He only acknowledges him in general conversation with occasional hello’s and good-bye’s. To Aidan, Dario doesn’t even see him and while he doesn’t understand why this should bother him, he just knows that it does. How will Aidan react when Dario reveals his interest? Aidan has never had an interest in another man, until now. There will be many truths exposed, feelings uncovered, but will they admit these revelations, to not only each other, but also everyone else?

Varian Krylov has written a deep and sometimes dark story that will have you cringing at times but needing more. Everything, however, is not all doom and gloom. She will expose sides to her characters that bring out the best in them. She exposes their inner weaknesses but shows their strengths, as well. This is a long novel that has many twists and turns. You will be hooked from the beginning and even though the road sometimes is bumpy, you grab on for the ride. Ms. Krylov does not shy away from exposing scenes that sometimes are hard to read. She will also expose the caring, the sensual, and sexual sides to her characters. She doesn’t rush them into sex. She gives them time to come to terms with new developments they are experiencing. When they feel they are ready to be intimate with each other, you are ready also for them to take it to the next level.

As Aidan and Dario explore their sexual relations, not only are they breathless, but you will be too. As I stated earlier, this author does not skimp with the sexual content. Most always, it is very explicit, so if this is not your thing, you have been warned. However, if you love not having to guess or create your own scenes as you read, you will be in awe of this story. I think the author done an incredible job of showing many sides to a relationship, one where communication is as important as the physical acts. The story continues to move forward, never stilted or stagnant. As Aidan and Dario explore and experience many levels, they form a trust and a bond that will be hard to break. The content is expressive, but it is addictive and will leave you only wanting more. I will be exploring many more books by Ms. Krylov in the future.
