Review: I can tell you that this story just about tore me up. I have never cried throughout a whole story. It was so tender and loving. It was the best told story, I have ever come across in a long while. It is a romance story but it goes so much deeper than that. At first, I wasn’t too sure what to say about this story, but I can tell you that it will have you in tears.

Philip had met Joey when they were in the eighth grade. They slowly become boyfriends. They were each other’s first. However when they graduated Joey wanted to continue school and wanted Philip to go but Philip let him know that he was joining the army. He wanted to grow up and get things right in his head. However, after twelve years in the military he had realized that he had lost all contact with his first love. He found out that he was late. Joey had died the past Christmas Eve of AIDS. It was tearing Philip up when he had found out that Joey’s parents let him die alone. They thought that he had deserved what he had gotten. If only he had kept in contact with him, things might have been different. That is what kept going on throughout his mind. He decided to go Legacy House where Joey had spent his last times till he passed away. He met the owners and decided to help them along. He met the older brother of one of the patients there. He had gone there to come to terms with what had happened, but what he found was his beginning.

Carlos’ little brother Miguel was a patient at Legacy House. Miguel’s family kicked him out when he was a teenager only Carlos kept in contact. Carlos wanted to be with his brother to the end. Medicine seemed to do the opposite of what it was meant to so he knew that Miguel’s time was short. He felt the pain that his brother was going through. He would do anything to help Miguel. He had met another man who had come to see where his best friend and first boyfriends had spent his last days. He had taken the chance after Miguel kept telling him to go after Philip and show him how love is supposed to be. One look was all it took for these two men. The love they have for the family that they had lost was pulling them together and with Miguel’s help, they were starting to love one another.

This story shows you what it is like to have HIV and AIDS. What happens too many that should never have happened. Miguel and Joey were both gay and they had sex without protection. They had caught HIV and they were kicked to the curb by their family members. Joey had died in December and when he had, the room had been given to Miguel. Philip had not known Joey had been sick let alone had passed on until he had asked a friend where he was. He was hurting with guilt and pain. Going to Legacy House, he just wanted to know about Joey’s last days. He met Carlos in the parking lot, but only got to talked to him when he met Miguel. He learned that Miguel had Joey’s old room. Carlos was hurting from the idea of loosing Miguel. Miguel didn’t want Carlos alone when he died. You can just feel the love so strong between everyone.

You can feel the love that is starting between Carlos and Philip. They come together to help Miguel in his last days and to get closure for Philip and find themselves. This story will show you what does happen all around you. I could never imagine throwing anyone out of the house for being gay, let alone letting them go through pain and illness by themselves. I was a little upset in the beginning that Philip had loved Joey but chose to join the military then quit talking to him after joining. I hated that Joey had went through what had to feel like abandonment. Then to die with no family around. I hated that part of this story, but it does happen to many times to so many.

I would recommend reading this story. It will change the way you think about so many things. T. A. Chase has a wonderful gift and I cannot wait to check out the rest of this wonderful author’s books.
