“Win the love of the wolf with the hardest heart.”

Faced with eternal banishment to hell, Anubis, god of the underworld, has found a loophole in one of the oldest laws which will allow him to unleash his evil on an unsuspecting human world. Orion’s only hope to stop him is to accept his challenge: send a champion to win the love of the wolf with the hardest heart. It will take someone with a pure heart to soften a closed one, so faced with the threat of losing not only the werewolves, but the destruction of the human race, the gods can only do one thing — send Adam, one of their own.

Adam quickly realizes that the werewolf whose love he must win is Jed.  Wounded after the loss of his wife and son, Jed promised he would never love again or be responsible for someone else’s happiness. Adam has been given a near impossible task.

Anubis is eager to see Adam fail, and unbeknown to everyone takes matters into his own hands to make sure of it. Everything happening now is part of his master plan, and finally it has come full circle.

Even if Adam succeeds and wins Jed’s heart, will that love survive when Jed discovers the whole thing was nothing more than a bet? Or when Adam does the one thing he mustn’t and falls in love himself, will he not only break Jed’s heart but completely destroy his own?

Which characters from the series Sirius Wolves are your favorite and how did you think them up?

Marcus appeared as a main character in book three. He was briefly mentioned as a human werewolf liaison officer earlier but he didn’t get his story until book three.

Marcus is my dad.

My dad died eighteen years ago. He served in the Royal Navy and he was an amputee. He had also been sick for quite a long time.

He hated the chair. He hated the pain. But what he hated most of all was suddenly becoming less. Less intelligent, less worthy of consideration, less worthy of respect.

People didn’t see him; they saw the chair.

I wanted Marcus to be and become everything my dad never did. Marcus was a bilateral amputee. He was given the job because he knew the senator responsible for it and the power players didn’t mind because they thought it wasn’t important. They were just going through the motions and being condescending to the werewolves. No-one knew they existed except certain parts of the government. Marcus was just there to keep an eye on them and let his superiors know if they were going to cause the humans any trouble.

Except it didn’t quite work out like that.

The humans found out about the werewolves and suddenly everyone wanted a piece of them, and the last thing the government wanted was some washed up guy in a wheelchair front and center.

I don’t want to give any series spoilers but those that have read books three to six know Marcus didn’t do anything that was expected of him. He kicked ass – and he didn’t need any legs to do it.

So – for my dad and everyone like him, Marcus is for you. Because being an Alpha is all about what’s in your heart and not what you look like.

Adam – is the main character from book seven. Full Circle. I can’t say too much about who he is because this will give the plot away, but I met Adam when I was five.

Adam was my best friend. For five years we were inseparable until I decided I shouldn’t be best friends with a boy.

Because I was a girl.

Just to backtrack a little. I hated my new all girls’ school. Not all school, but at that point I was being bullied. I was a tomboy. I didn’t do dresses. I didn’t do dolls, and I definitely never got invited to other girl’s houses. I wasn’t physically hit, ever. They wouldn’t have dared. It was much worse to me because I would have hit them back. I was ignored. I was laughed at. All my choices. Everything that brought me joy was suddenly brought into question. I doubted myself and even worse I was ashamed. For the first time I felt peer pressure and it was a bitch.

A new girl moved in three houses down. I was invited around. Three of my worst enemies were also there, and they were nice…to me. I was stunned. We got out dolls and were doing clothes swaps. (This was the late seventies – Barbie was new and all the rage) and I rushed home to get the Barbie I knew I’d never even got out of the box.

When I returned I passed Adam. He was in his front yard and his face lit up when he saw me. Said he had a new game and did I want to come and play? At the same time one of the “bullies” came out of the garden I had just been in and laughed…at me.

I could feel the acceptance slipping away. It was my one chance. My one chance to be happy. I haughtily turned to Adam and told him that I wasn’t playing with him anymore. That I had new friends and that I didn’t play with boys.

I’m fifty years old and I have never ever forgotten the look on his face. Adam was small, shy. He never played with the boys because they were, I suppose, as far out of his reach as the “in” girls were to me.

The worst thing was Adam moved house three days later.

I never got to say goodbye. I never got to say sorry. I never got to say that I loved my best friend because he let me be who I wanted to be.

So Adam – this is my chance. I write what I write because no-one should ever be made to question who they are, or told who they love, is wrong.

Please forgive me,

Your “bestest” best-friend, Sue.

Excerpt

Jed gentled his hand as Adam mewled in the back of his throat, both of Adam’s hands surrounding his neck and pressing tightly with an overwhelming urge to simply hang on.

They shared kisses. Shared air. Jed swallowed every reaction from Adam because it was precious. Finally, he wiped his hand and their bodies clean on the sheet and drew Adam in closer.

His heart beat loudly in his ears. Jed didn’t want to think about what they had just done, and let reality intrude on the bliss that seemed to wrap them both up. It wasn’t the whole fucking a guy thing, even though he was still in shock about that. It was the need inside of him, the nameless urge that transcended sex or narrow bigoted views of what made other people happy. In a lot of ways, it wasn’t even the fact that Adam was human and Jed was not.

It was his unshaking doubt that as soon as Jed trusted, as soon as Jed let in a little belief, as soon as Jed started thinking in terms of forever… That’s when it would happen. That’s when his forever would be ripped away. It had with his family. The day his father hadn’t returned from the hunt because of a human’s bullet. The day they’d fled their home because the forest was cleared to make a human town, and his family had no idea how to live in one. The day he was out scrounging for food to fill their empty bellies because it was winter and they should have been warm and safe in their homes, and his little sister had been attacked by a rogue. The rogue had been insane, half-mad with whatever injustice had caused him to attack a pup, and his mom had died trying to defend her.

And then he had trusted once more. Raye had waltzed into his life and danced his objections away. Then it had happened again, as surely as Jed feared it would.

He clutched Adam tighter, knowing his hold wouldn’t last, knowing Adam would be ripped from him like everyone else…

He no longer had any dreams that could be taken from him. He’d accepted long ago that the pack would be his life, but he would go home alone every day. He almost didn’t mind because he knew it wasn’t a matter if Adam would realize he was a pathetic old man and would leave.

It was simply a matter of when.

About Victoria

Victoria Sue has loved books for as long as she can remember. Books were always what pocket money went on and what usually Father Christmas brought. When she ran out of her kids’ adventure stories, she would go raid her mom’s. By the age of eight she was devouring classics like Little Women, and fell in love with love stories.
She especially loves writing gay romance because as far as she’s concerned the only thing better than one hot guy, is two of them.

Review: To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

There is nothing better than a good paranormal romance with two gorgeous men involved however in this one you have a four way mating which is hot. I have found that this is probably the only series that has a darkness to it that doesn’t seem to take away from the story. Although it can be a bit confusing at certain parts, my attention was caught from the beginning.

This is a unique series where sometimes the good guys do actually know what they are doing, even if it is a roundabout way. Anubis has been found guilty, but he also argues that Sirius has done the same crimes. Orion must either send Anubis to his end or send his wife to the heavens. However Anubis gives them a different way to end this.  He is to send a champion to earth, to win the love of a werewolf whose heart is the hardest and not lose his own. Her choice was their son.

Werewolves and humans could mate, but it was very difficult to have a child. Many of the human females lost their lives as well as their children. Jed had lost his wife and his unborn son. His heart had been broken and his destiny was to stay alone forever. Or so he thought, that is until Adam showed up.

Now an evil god as Anubis will always have his nasty hand in things, so you will have to read to find out what happens. Let’s not forget all the hot sexy time these guys have going on while mixing the danger around them.

Now I have to admit that the way the ending happened was not as fluid as it should have been. It came off like the author had rushed it to get it finished by a certain date.  It doesn’t take away from the story but was a bit off in my eye.  Other than that this story was amazing and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

  1. I was drawn to Victoria Sue’s books after reading the first two Innocent books. Even though shifter books aren’t my first choice in romance I wanted to read more by her. I fell in love with Sirius Wolves and had to read them all.
