Kieran

(Atherton Pack 04)
by

Toni Griffin

“You need to go to Atherton,” they said. Easy for them. The higher-ups at headquarters don’t have their whole world on the line. When Detective Damon Kelly’s bosses send him across the state on a “simple” cyber fraud case, he never thinks he’d meet his mate, then risk losing Kieran by doing his job. No matter what other possible angles Damon works, his partner Grant Davis is sure Kieran’s best friend Corey’s their guy, and Grant is bent on bringing him in.

After the birth of their Alpha’s son, the Atherton Pack needs another beta. Kieran Baxter couldn’t be happier to accept. What Kieran doesn’t expect is for all hell to break loose his first week on the job. Clashing with his mate at every turn, and fighting a human cop who wants to arrest Corey for hacking a government database, wasn’t part of the plan either.

As more evidence piles up, a bigger, scarier picture comes into focus that could threaten not only the Atherton Pack, but everything the world knows.

Exclusive Excerpt!

Thank you so much for having me on your blog today! I’m here to share with you an exclusive excerpt from my latest release Kieran, book 4 in the Atherton Pack series.

“Have you got a minute?” Liam asked as he raced up beside Kieran.

Ben and Tommy had left a little while ago because of Joseph, but the rest had hung around and enjoyed the evening out. Kieran sometimes hated that their bodies metabolised alcohol so quickly. Tonight had turned into a night that he really would have liked to drown his sorrows.

“Sure,” Kieran shrugged, not really sure what his friend and business partner wanted but more than willing to give him the time.

Liam steered Kieran over to the opposite side of the car park where they wouldn’t be overheard. Kieran furrowed his brows.

His friend shrugged. “I just wanted to see how you’re doing.”

Kieran stared at him. “I’m fine,” he responded curtly.

Liam crossed his arms over his chest and raised a brow. Kieran really hated how some people could do that.

“What? I’m fine, really.”

“You know I’m here if you want to talk about anything, right?” Liam assured him.

“Like what?”

“Like mates.”

Kieran stilled. He really didn’t know if he wanted to talk about Damon with anyone at the moment. He was still trying to process just what the hell had happened tonight.

“I know,” he said to try to placate his friend. Liam was just trying to be nice and supportive, and Kieran really did appreciate it.

“Let me just say one thing before I let you go, okay?” Liam’s expression turned pleading.

Kieran couldn’t refuse his friend. “Sure. Fire away.”

“Finding your mate is the easy part…”

Kieran snorted.

Liam chuckled. “Okay, well it’s not that easy, but compared to the rest it really is. Once you’ve found them, you all of a sudden have this other person that you have to rearrange your entire life around. The two of you are meant to be together, but that doesn’t mean you can just put a brake on the individual lives you were leading. These things take time to meld and come together. It takes time to get to know one another and build the trust that’s needed for a mating to succeed. I don’t know what happened between you two tonight”—Liam quickly held up his hands when Kieran went to speak, stopping him—”and I don’t need to know. That’s between the two of you. Just please, don’t give up on him. Things are brand new. Mistakes are bound to be made. God knows none of our matings have been smooth sailing.”

Kieran’s ire melted away a little. He reached out and pulled Liam into a hug, held his friend close, and whispered, “Thanks, man.”

Liam clapped him on the back a couple of times as he pulled away. “Anytime. Now come on, we should head home. We both have big days tomorrow.”

Kieran groaned. He really didn’t want to think about everything he had lined up for tomorrow. A kitchen renovation, a bathroom remodel, and a back patio. Thankfully, they had a great team of guys working for them.

They made their way back to where the others were standing in the dark waiting for them. They said goodnight to each other, all climbed into their separate cars, and Kieran headed home.

The entire way home Kieran couldn’t stop thinking about what Liam had said. Had he been too harsh with Damon? He understood that things were only a second old between them. But Kieran also had a hell of a lot going on right now, with work and being the newest Beta of the Pennaeth Alpha. The last thing Kieran wanted to do was disappoint Ben in any way, and he just wasn’t sure where Damon fit into his life.

Kieran sighed as he pulled up outside his small home. His thoughts were going round and round in circles. Too tired to do anything else, Kieran locked the car and made his way inside, securing the house behind him. He stripped off and collapsed face down into the cool sheets of his bed.

Kieran screamed into the pillow, hoping to relieve a little of the frustration he was feeling. He wanted his mate, but at the same time he was still slightly annoyed at Damon, even after Liam’s talk with him.

The memory of their time together earlier that night flooded his mind. He could practically feel Damon’s hands caressing his skin, the heat of his breath against Kieran’s neck, the taste of his kisses as their lips joined together for the first time. Kieran groaned and reached beneath him, palming his hardening dick.

Review:  Each book in The Atherton Pack collection features a different romantic couple.  To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters I would recommend reading this series in sequential order.  However I would suggest starting the series Holland Brothers first, as it is the true beginning into this amazing world.

Damon and his partner work for the fraud and cybercrime division and have been sent to Atherton to find out who hacked into the birth, death records. They had their eye on Corey for doing the hacking. However there was a major problem, Damon was also a wolf shifter and knew what would happen if the reason behind the hacking came out. Too bad his partner brought in the big guns. Now all of their lives are in danger. To top it off he has found his mate.

Kieran has been asked to be another beta for the pack, since his alpha and alpha mate’s son had been born. With what is going to happen, they need all the protection they can get. However his mate is on the other side with the law, and is trying to find out how to protect the packs and show his mate he is indeed wanted. Things are not going to go so easily though, and the truth of what they are might just come out.

I have always loved reading and paranormal love stories are my top pick.  It wasn’t till a couple of years ago that I found out about m/m romance and from that point on that is all I read.  I came across Toni around that time with The Holland Brother series and found that her books are one of my favorite types. So when this series came out I jumped at it.  This particular story was very unique and very enticing. I loved how the guys figure out how to get out of trouble and the dangers that was coming at them. It is an action packed story let me tell you.

It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It gave me everything I could ask for in a story and so much more. It made for the perfect ending of my day. I absolutely loved it and look forward to Toni’s next book.  This is one book I would seriously recommend and can guarantee that you will love it.
