Interview with Diane Lennox

Pixie: Hello to Diane Lennox who is joining us today for the Dreamspinner Press Daily Dose with their release Lucky to be Unlucky, hey Diane.

Diane: Hi Pixie! Thank you so much for taking the time to interview me!

Pixie: Diane your contribution to the Daily Dose is Lucky to be Unlucky why don’t you tell our readers a little about it.

Diane: Alright. Well, our main character Greg is a professional video gamer and he and his team are heading in to the most important tournament of the year. Unfortunately, he doesn’t even make it into the hotel before he has the most unlucky trip up ever and ends up hurting his hand so bad he won’t be able to play at all. While this is of course devastating, unbeknownst to him it opens up the perfect opportunity for a certain someone to finally have an excuse to come talk to him and try to cheer him up.

Pixie: How excited were you to hear from Dreamspinner that your story had been accepted?

Diane: To be honest it didn’t even feel real at first. I was so shocked. Once it had sunk in I was ecstatic as this will be my very first published work. I’m so happy and grateful that Dreamspinner has given me this opportunity.

Pixie: How did you feel having your first story in the Mended Daily Dose, because it is a hurt/comfort series?

Diane: It isn’t a theme I’d usually write about but I think the challenge of writing outside my comfort zone was a great exercise for me as a writer. Also, I think in a way it showcases my style of being typically more positive. I hope when people read it they take away the idea that while on the surface things may suck it’s usually all a lead up for something amazing.

Pixie: Did you have the idea for Lucky to be Unlucky before you heard of the Mended submission call or did it form after?

Diane: It definitely formed after. It took me awhile to think of an idea too. I eventually went with the old adage “write what you know”. I based a lot of this around a computer game I play myself.

Pixie: Did you enjoy writing about Greg and Daesung? They are mega cute together.

Diane: They were a blast. Every time I finally had them together the writing flowed so easily. It was also great writing about boys that are both a bit shyer. Usually in stories you have one that is quite a bit more aggressive but here they were about equal. For me it made the dynamics much more interesting to write.

Pixie: Do you think you could give the readers a little teaser, just a couple of lines?

Diane: He reached into his pocket and offered something to me. “I thought it might make you feel better.”

I looked down at his hand and saw an adorable little bunny plushie. I recognized it immediately as his famous good luck charm that always sat by his computer at every tournament.

“But that’s Missy!” I exclaim, shaking my head furiously. “I don’t need your good luck charm, you do!”

“I’d feel better if she stayed with you during the tournament and kept you company.”

Pixie: Are we going to see Greg and Daesung in the future?

Diane: Probably not but I may revisit the idea of the professional gamers again.

Pixie: Do you have any more stories planned?

Diane: Definitely! I’ve got an idea already lined up for the next Dreamspinner short story call and I’m also nearly done plotting out my very first novel. It involves not two men, but three.

Pixie: Now why don’t you let the readers know where to find you.

Diane: The best way right now would be to keep up with updates on my main site at www.dianelennox.com but I also plan on making a facebook page in the very near future which of course will be linked from my main site.

Pixie: Before we go is there anything you’d like to tell the readers and fans?

Diane: Well I hope you enjoy my very first original published work and I will be working hard at having more stories up this summer!

Pixie: Thanks for coming to join us today Diane and good luck with Lucky to be Unlucky.

Diane: Thank you so much! 🙂

Review: Greg is devastated to be knocked off the team the day before the international pro-gaming tournament by a simple stupid accident, putting a brave face on for the team Greg continues with the team’s plans. But maybe Greg isn’t as unlucky as he thinks when his injury has the cute Korean, Daesung, from a rival team approaching him and they swap good luck charms.

Aww this is a really cute story. Greg has been crushing on Daesung for some time and he was looking forward to competing against the cute Korean, but now with his injured finger and wrist he feels like his world is collapsing. Daesung wants to make Greg feel better and offers Greg his good luck bunny, Missy, to look after him. As they exchange good luck charms a mild flirtation strikes up, and they become the gossip of the competition.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet little story of two young men dancing around their attraction with shy glances and teasing friends. Both Greg and Daesung are great characters who both seem kinda shy when it comes to their crushes, we see an awkward dance as neither wants to make a fool of themselves and put themselves across first. Daesung’s offer of comfort (Missy, his good luck charm) is really sweet and begins the flirtation between them; it was so cute to see them both throwing shy glances and sweet smiles at each other. When they finally do broach the subject it gets a tiny bit awkward as they nearly misunderstand the other. But when they do sort it out they are mega sweet… I just melted into a puddle of awwww.

I recommend this to those who love cute little stories and cute characters, a very shy romance playing out across the completion floor and a very sweet beginning to a beautiful romance.
