Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.

Dasan is a forty-year-old water mystic. He runs the Alliance garage with his father. When one of their employees starts relating blanking out on time, Dasan takes him to the doctors. While there, he meets his mate Jalin, an original member of the Cadre. After learning what is really happening with the employee, everyone rushes back to the garage only to have it exploded and kill everyone inside. What should have been the happiest day meeting his mate, turns into grief for Dasan as he loses his father.

Jalin does all he can for his mate Dasan. However, Dasan becomes so wrapped up in guilt and grief he starts to only focus and rebuilding the garage. After a while, Jalin feels abandoned and alone in the mating. The story shows both MCs points of view, and it was easy to at things from both of them and understands it to a degree. Neither MC is perfect and they both have their issues, but the main one was that neither took the time to talk to each other.

I liked this story. It was more emotional and heart-warming in a way. The was plenty of sex and it was hot, but that was not the problem for them. Dasan let everything else take the front seat instead of his mate Jalin. It wasn’t until it was almost too late that he got his ass in gear and did what he should have done from the start. Dasan forgot for a while that his mate should be the most important thing in his life. Jalin taking off was the best thing he could have done. It forced Dasan to reevaluate things and own up to what he was doing to their mating.

As for the storyline arc for the series, it showed the Alliance that they were not as safe as they thought and that the psy will do anything to win the war. It will be interesting to see what happens next and I look forward to more books in the future.
