Resurrection

by

S. Davidson

Two men with painful, complicated pasts who have shut themselves down from ever loving again. Complete opposites of one another, one raised in a strict military household, who grew up with the sole purpose of becoming a soldier and defending his country, only to have that cut short by an IED; and the other raised in the rodeo, small town and ranch life his safe haven; and their chance meeting.

How the two of them end up in some small town diner can only be credited to divine intervention. But are both men too damaged? They say God works in mysterious ways. Well, he certainly had his hands full when he chose these two for saving.

Is it too late?

About Shelly

Who is Shelly Davidson? Shelly is someone who has been writing literally her entire life (and that’s a LONG time) and has always written M/M. Her first story was back in high school and she hasn’t stopped since. Of course, Shelly never dreamed of getting published, so needless to say, she’s in heaven! Shelly loves her characters. Her writing focus is real people, flaws and all, who are hurting or damaged, but deserve a little joy in their lives. Shelly was born and raised in Arizona, but currently lives in California because that is where the money is! She is currently single, but has a grown daughter and an adorable grandson both of whom she loves dearly. While she usually stays pretty much to herself, she does have a Bachelor’s in Social Services and a diverse background that ranges from theater to health care and currently works in accounting, she swears it’s not as boring as it sounds. While this is her first publication, it is by far not the last! She plans on being around for quite some time! You’ve been warned!

Blurb: His war has just begun.

James (Jamie) Massey has been raised in a strict military household and grew up with the sole purpose of becoming a soldier. He never imagined the heartache his choices in love and war would weigh on his soul, and when he loses everything, he can’t imagine ever being happy again.

Chris Baker grew up in a small town, raised on the rodeo circuit. When he met Ben, he thought he’d live blissfully every after, but things have a way of not going along as planned. Chris, devastated by his loss, was barely hanging on.

When Jamie and Chris end up in the same small town diner, it can only be credited to divine intervention. But are both men too damaged? They say God works in mysterious ways. Well, he certainly had his hands full when he chose these two for saving.

Promo 3Review: The first thing I will warn you about is that this book deals with men that suffer from PTSD, death and real wartime violence.

When I was first given this story I was not really sure what to expect. I had not read the blurb, but just went into the story. The beginning is when one of our characters is just ten years old and I can say that if I had been there his father would have gotten a good beat down.

Then it morphs into his time away from his family and I almost put the story down. It had him with a girl plus a boy, but I don’t read books with girly parts in it. However, once I got past that particular chapter of his life, I realized what a shame it would have been to just lay the book down.

Now at first I didn’t much care for the type of separation that it gave the characters, but soon realized that for this particular story it had to be done that way. It gives you a look of their lives before they meet each other.

I will also warn you that if you aren’t expecting it, then expect to be in tears with this book. It is a very emotional read. It also gives you an insight into what it is like to not only be in the military, dealing with the loss of friends and lovers but also how you can lose yourself right after the war.

It made it even harder for me because I have also been suicidal through most of my life, so I knew what these guys felt in a way. Not in the way of why they were though. Jamie had been raised by his family and it had been a very hard time for him. His father was a high-ranking military man who was very hard on his son. The type that even when their child is the best at everything, thinks he can do more. I really would have rather seen this man shot before I even got to the middle of the story.

Jamie had been in a committed relationship with Derrick, but had spent more time at war then at home. Then something horrible had happened to the man he loved that he spent most of the time in pain. Then he made it to the Special Forces, but decided to help his old team on one more mission. It had cost him the loss of not only his team but his leg.

Chris grew up in a small country town working on the rodeo circuit. He had been madly in love with Ben only to lose him to bone cancer. He had been at the end of his rope, but managed to continue to survive the life he had been given. He had made a promise to Ben, but had never wanted to give in. That is until he met a wounded soldier who was on the edge himself. One year after losing his husband, he was looking at what might just be his future.

13327628_1561167654179752_6214960095204701579_nIf you know anything about PTSD, then you can imagine what Jamie went through. He had his good times, but also had his bad times. He was still just trying to stay alive. Chris was his light, in the dark times of trying to survive. There are times in this story that will have you in tears at the pain you can feel from both of these men. There is also a hint of humor that you will find refreshing.

Now I have to admit that I didn’t much care for the final ending but this is one book that I wished everyone would read. It is not the tender love story that most look forward to and there is no paranormal touch to it at all. It is a story of the love between a wounded soldier and cowboy. A love that will define all things. If there had been a way to give it a higher heart rating then this would have been a ten.

There is just something to this story that will capture your heart and attention. I would definitely recommend reading it.
