Blurb: The staff at AURA has had a busy summer. Between chronic understaffing, dealing with warring goblin factions and an unusual number of hazardous Events, everyone is overworked. Sinistrus the incubus, newly hired as an AURA medic, actually enjoys his busy new life of responsible employee and faithful lover to his gorgeous police sergeant, Ness the centaur. Life would be perfect, except for a niggling suspicion about a colleague. Everyone else seems to disagree, but Sin’s certain something’s not right with that pixie.

Kellen, a pixie crossover, loves his job working in AURA medical, even if he is something of an outsider. His job and the friends he manages to make are happy spots in an otherwise dark and secretive life. As the rest of AURA tries to discover the root of the inexplicable rise in violence and large scale Events, Kellen fights to preserve his own life and what dignity he has left.

Review: Each book in the AURA collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

This series has so many different types of paranormals in it that makes it absolutely unique to me. The worlds so fascinating and beautiful even though there are some dark spots to it. This world was created because of an accident that had happened at Berkley. It made our world merge with a world of magic and paranormal beings. It changed the way of life for everyone involved.

There are also a lot of different types of emotions put into this story and I found that it was enticing. Although there are some parts that I did not care for at all.

Ness is in love with Sin, but because Sin needs to feed on a female, he gives him what he needs. However it doesn’t make him like it. Now for me I didn’t really see the need for this in the book. It brought it down for me, because who wants a character to have to sleep with a female when we are all for men on men action.

Ness is a centaur but not like any one would know. He doesn’t act like the others and is damn sweet that you want to grab him and hug him. Now Sin is sad sometimes knowing that his feedings doesn’t make Ness feel good. However he truly loves Ness and shows it in other ways.

Then there is Kellen a cute little pixie that is being forced to serve a coven. A coven that wants to use his magic for evil. Now I must admit that I do like Kellen, Sin and Ness, but the way this book ended ruined the whole thing for me. I want Ness back with Sin and if you want Kellen then add him. Now I won’t go into detail because it will give the story away, but let’s just say it sucked.

I was happy with the way the book started but then it went downhill for me. So much so that I think I will skip the next book. It pissed me off but don’t get me wrong Kellen is a sweetie. I just didn’t like the twist that this book had at all. I do hope that in the next story they bring Ness back somehow. I absolutely hated this book but I suppose since it kept my attention I must read the next book.

It did its job though, caught my attention and kept me wanting for more of it.

Out of his environment and in over his head, Shax scrambles to understand the players and the consequences of his new life.

Review: Very interesting book. Shax and Vernin, demons, leave their home planet on a stolen ship. They take on cargo to transport to a buyer. In the process they learn what they are carrying and how much danger they are in from several different groups.

Shax, a demon prince, seemed arrogant at times yet sweet and at other times humorous. I liked the way he thought on his feet when the situation called for it. Vernin, a demon, has been friends with Shax for a long time. He seemed fierce and loyal yet always seemed to be telling Shax not to do something.

This story was adventurous, humorous and filled with danger. I found it quite entertaining all the way through. The cargo was a surprise at what it could be used for. I found myself both laughing at some scenes and holding my breath at others awaiting the outcome.

Can’t wait to read what happens next in this series.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.

This book picks up a little after the last. Since then Valerian has taken on the Captaincy spot that was left open after the prior events. Quinn has started working on a freelance basis for the AURA research department. Valerian and Quinn are now living full-time together as the bonded pair they are. The fire between them has not cooled down and they are still sex as hell together.

But this story is not only about Valerian and Quinn. There is also the Kai and his Tenzin having issues with their bonding. As an extra bonus there is the story of Flax, an elf hunter for AURA who finds his matches in two elf newcomers to Earth. Throughout all the relationships is the ongoing issue of someone with the power to turn people into stone. To say the least, a hell of a lot goes on.

There are the interconnecting relationships, not just the romantic but also the friendships that have developed. Even as they hunt for the person turning people into stone, the emotional bonds of the three romantic relationships are highlighted and explored.
Kai and Tenzin experience bumps in their bonding.

As Kai works himself to the bone, he has put a strain on his relationship. Instead of putting Tenzin first, he has focused on work. And Tenzin takes drastic measures. Now Kai has to learn a different way of balancing his work and personal life.

Meanwhile, Flax has issues of his own. When he first landed in the human world he did not handle it well. Alone he turned to drugs and nearly lost himself. Now working as an officer for AURA he hunts those bent on causing problems. When he is blackmailed into training Quinn, he does with the wrong ideas that nearly backfire on him.

It isn’t until Ash and Sage come through an event that he learns there may be something else out there for him. And let me tell you these three are smoking hot together.

The descriptions and dialogue are rich and lushly descriptive. Even with so much going on with the different relationship that are already established and the new one taking place I did not find myself getting lost. Everything was easy to follow.

I loved the first book and I loved this one too. The concept is different, interesting, and it’s not one-dimensional. Because of that I have been drawn into this world the authors have created. I enjoy the different characters and their unique traits.

This series is turning out to be an awesome urban fantasy and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Cabin for Two: An Anthology

s949781146977809269_p10_i1_w640Title: Cabin for Two: An Anthology

Series: Mischief Corner Anthologies, #1
Author(s): Toni Griffin, Freddy MacKay, Mathilde Watson, Silvia Violet, and Angel Martinez
Genre: Various
Length: 201 pages
Publisher: Mischief Corner Books, LLC; 3rd edition (April 1, 2013)

Blurb: Snow, storm, transportation woes, gravity well mishaps – the list of disasters that might strand someone in the wilderness is endless. But what happens when two men are marooned together? Close quarters and intimate situations strike sparks, whether the men are strangers or lovers on the emotional rocks.

A Bear in the Woods: Smokey Mountain Bears 1 by Toni Griffin ♥♥♥♥4Hearts
A bear shifter tries to convince his mate that he’s not crazy while fighting threats against his own life.

I was looking forward to this. I really enjoy Tony Griffin’s other series The Holland Brothers and Atherton Pack. If anything, this book was just too short and that was because I missed the details that I crave and normally get from her writing. But in saying that I’m really behind since I’ve only just got to this one. This anthology originally published a couple of years ago and it is the first book in a series. The second book was released a few months ago for Christmas (Wreath of Fire in the Chestnuts Roasting Anthology, Dec 2014) – another book that I need to get to.

Regardless, this is an enjoyable story. An unsuspecting human and a hot bear shifter, what more could you want? Vincent, the human of the piece, has been forced to take a holiday by his best friend. And for some odd reason she has booked him a cabin in the woods. Christian, our bear, has a lot of background drama going on to do with his pack/sleuth of bears. He’s next in line for alpha and a couple of pack members take an exception to this. When Vincent arrives at the cabin, his first glimpse of Christian is in his bear form and we pick up on a quick adventure from there.

As I said, not really detail heavy although it has a good and simple plot. There seems like there is more to this story and since it’s only book 1, I’m going to put my faith in Toni Griffin for the rest.

Dirty Little Secret by Freddy MacKay ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts
A geocaching trip goes horribly wrong, but the hiker’s rescuer is the one person who may be able to save him in more ways than he can imagine.

I think this is the first time I’ve read something by Freddy MacKay and I have to say it is pretty enjoyable.

Three Little Words by Mathilde Watson ♥♥♥♥♥5 Hearts
Lifelong friends have returned from the Korean conflict and now need to fight their way through the feelings they’ve harbored for each other for so long.

This is the first time I’ve read anything written by Mathilde Watson. I have to say there are two things that drew me into this instantly 1) I love Korea as a county and the mere mention of it makes me want to go back, and, 2) I’m a tragic for watching re-runs of MASH and it seems I’ve been watching reruns my whole life.

All that aside, this is a sweet story. It’s about two best friends that are confused about their sexuality trying to get their lives back on track after being irrevocably altered from their time in the army. One thing that isn’t actually mentioned specifically but I would say has impact on the story is how homosexuality was viewed historically. This is more fun and exploration than the serious side of sexuality.

Their Natural Habitat: The Forestry Series, Book 2 by Silvia Violet ♥♥♥♥3.5Hearts
A forest ranger and his lover just want a nice weekend away. The bear baiters have other ideas.

I have to admit, I didn’t quite enjoy this story as much as the preceding stories in the Cabin for Two anthology. But I think I figured it out: this is a standalone sequel to book 1 in the Forestry Series but to enjoy it properly I probably need to read book 1.

As I said, this is a sequel, so we follow on with characters that readers would have met if they didn’t do my trick and go straight to this anthology without realising. Dan and Parker are together but one is a city boy and the other is a country boy – who also works as a park ranger. These guys are still trying to iron out the dynamics and logistics of their relationship and even on its own is an enjoyable read.

A Matter of Faces (An ESTO Universe Story) by Angel Martinez ♥♥♥♥♥5 Hearts
A data privateer crash lands on a barely habitable moon where he’s found by a research scientist who refuses to show his face.

By far this was the most enjoyable book for me from the Cabin for Two anthology. It’s not so much sweet, but it is fun. It’s a bit like Cold War Spy crossed with Arctic scientist in my mind.

The MCs are Rhodi (Rhodolite) and Gel (Magellan): Gel is a scientist tucked away on an isolated planet studying/observing weather systems. Rhodi is the data privateer mention in the blurb, he crash lands and crawls into the wrong plant, so when Gel finds him, Gel becomes his nurse and medical doctor briefly. It’s not really an adventure, they are stuck within an observation cabin throughout, but it’s a pretty cool way for a scientists and what is essentially a spy come together.

Just on a random side note, it pissed me off how Gel reacted at the end but I’m glad he saw sense. It’s just in Rhodi’s shoes. I would have been a little less willing to accept an apology. On the names, I can’t keep this to myself: Rhodolite is a type of rock/crystal, but since I don’t know rocks that well (had to look it up), I keep thinking of Rhodophytes (red algae, more my area). As for Magellan (as well as being aptly named), if you remember the kids’ 90s cartoon The Animaniacs, I keep on thinking a song they sing about the explorer Magellan.

Blurb: An unregistered human con wizard and a duty-bound, straight-laced elf cop. As New York explodes with dangerous creatures, their passion goes nuclear.

After a terrible magical accident at Berkeley created unpredictable holes between realities, all manner of non-human creatures started popping into our world. These displacements, called Random Anomalous Reality Events or RARE, have taken magic out of fiction and relocated it firmly in reality, resulting in a great deal of chaos and confusion.

Displaced elf Valerian works with AURA, the Agency of Unnatural Resettlement and Assimilation, to intercept these beings as they appear in the human world, helping the peaceful ones and subduing the violent, malevolent ones. It’s good, satisfying work, and Val would be happy if he wasn’t so lonely.

Quinten is a young mage just trying to get by, but New York isn’t the easiest city to make a living in. If his methods are sometimes morally dubious, his heart is still in the right place. Of course, for Quinn, the right place means firmly locked away, protected at all costs. Living by his wits and sometimes magically induced luck, he works as a ‘freelance magic user’, or unregistered mage and small-time con, according to the authorities.

The last thing Quinn wants is to draw the cops’ attention, but when an Event happens right on top of him, he’s forced to turn to AURA for help. Valerian isn’t at all what he’d expected in an AURA cop, and he certainly wasn’t expecting to join forces with the sexy elf, a snarky drow, and a bitter incubus, when certain individuals in power try to stop the RARE by any means necessary.

Things are not all what they seem at AURA headquarters, and a greater evil lurks at the top than anyone could have imagined.

Review: This is book one in the AURA series.
Quinten is a small time con. It’s not the best living but he does what he must to survive. Quinn has not had the easiest life. Becoming the ward of the state at a young age he finally run away. On the streets he met a man who taught him how to pickpocket and use magic.

When Quinn made a mistake, the man turned on him, raped him, and allowed others to do the same for a price. This has led Quinn to keep people out and close himself off.
Valerian is a misplaced elf who was pulled through one of the events. The human world is strange to him and also lonely. But he has made a life for himself as an AURA officer.

When he first meets Quinn, he is immediately drawn to him. However, Quinn and his issues make it hard for Val to get close to him. Than all hell breaks, loose and it’s a matter of finding the will to stay alive.

The push and pull Quinn had going on with Val was annoying at times, but also when it was explained about his past it also becomes more understandable. I really felt bad for Val. He is not human, so many things humans just for granted he just does not understand. However once they do finally get their act together, they are pretty intense and sensual together.

The world that was created is very lush and well described. There are so many amazing beings and creatures. The MCs as well as the secondary characters are well thought out. The story was fast paced and kept my attention. The interactions between all the characters were interesting at times and pretty funny at others.

There was a lot of information given about the people and the world, but it was never too much to take away from the story and bog it down. Something I very much appreciated.

Overall, this was a very entertaining book. I enjoyed the world created and look forward to reading more about it. Since this is billed as a series, I cannot wait for the next book.

Chestnuts Roasting

(Anthology)
by

Toni Griffin, Angel Martinez, Freddy MacKay & Silvia Violet

Christmas means different things to everyone, but most often it’s all about pulling loved ones close and brightening the gloom. The fire’s crackling. The snow is piling up outside, even if it’s only in your dreams. Time to snuggle up with some cocoa and some stories carefully crafted by the Mischief Corner Crew to warm hearts and cockles.

Wreath of Fire: Smokey Mountains Bears 2 – Toni Griffin
Michael’s trying to start a new life away from his abusive father, but he’s drifting and not sure what he wants. When he accidentally starts a kitchen fire, the hot new fireman who comes to the rescue is not only another bear shifter. He’s Michael’s mate. Michael desperately needs to get his act together and figure out what he wants if he has any hope of claiming the bear fated to be his.

A Christmas Cactus for the General – Angel Martinez
Exiled to Earth for perhaps the worst failure in Irasolan history, General Teer must assimilate or die. Earth is too warm, too wet, too foreign, but he does the best he can even though human males are loud, childish louts whom he can’t imitate successfully. When a grieving seaplane pilot strikes up a strange and uneasy friendship with him, he finds he may have been too quick to judge human males. They are strange to look at, but perhaps not as unbearable as he thought.

Holly Jolly – Silvia Violet
I’m not gay. I just notice men sometimes. Everybody does, right? I notice Dane a lot, like every time I’m near him, but just because I think he’s an attractive man that doesn’t mean I like him, does it?

I’m also not a fan of Christmas. Too many years “celebrating” with my Bible-thumping family ruined the holiday for me. So what if I envy all these cheerful souls dashing about with smiles on their faces? I don’t have to like Christmas, do I? If anyone could get me in the Christmas spirit, it would be Dane with his easy, relaxed manner and his gorgeous smile. If that were going to happen, though, I’d have to find the courage to talk to him and to admit that maybe I don’t know myself all that well after all.

Snow on Spirit Bridge – Freddy MacKay
Alone in Japan, Finni is struggling against the constant distrust, avoidance, and xenophobia he experiences every day. He misses home. He misses his family. Nightmares come all too frequently because of the stress, and well, Christmas is just not Christmas in Japan. Not how he understands it.

Distressed by how miserable Finni is, his roommate, Mamoru, offers to be Finni’s family for Christmas. Little does he know how much one agreement would change everything between them, because both of them kept secrets neither ever dreamed were true.

Blurb: Diego and Finn’s peaceful life in Montana shatters when Diego unwittingly rips a hole in the Veil to the Otherworld—mysterious prophecies, dying fae, hostile government agents, and there’s so much more that could still go wrong.

After defeating an evil wendigo, a man and his pooka lover deserve a little quiet. Unfortunately, Diego and Finn’s hard-won peace is disturbed when Diego, in a jealous rage, unwittingly rips a hole in the impenetrable Veil to the Otherworld.

Separated, stuck on the other side of the Veil where Finn has to face old conflicts and Diego is the only human in a land of fae, the two of them navigate rocky waters between huge egos and ancient feuds. Worse still, some of the fae are dying of a mysterious illness and everyone believes Diego is the key to a cure. Things can’t possibly get any worse, can they? Oh, yes—they can when the US government gets involved.

Purchase Link: http://www.mlrbooks.com/ShowBook.php?book=AM_DIEGO

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. This is the 3rd edition of Diego and I really couldn’t see any changes from the 2nd edition so it isn’t necessary to purchase the newest edition if you have the earlier one.

Diego and Finn have settled into life in Montana after defeating the wendigo in Canada, but their peace is shattered when, after returning from a short trip, Diego flies into a jealous rage and rips a tear in the veil to the Otherworld. Diego and Finn are now in the land of the fae on two separate sides of an old feud, they have to breach the gap between the two sides to reunite and help to discover what illness has befallen the warriors. As they help the fae the worst is still to come when the US government get involved and the fae must work together to rescue their own.

This is a brilliant addition to the Endangered Fae series and I was very impressed with the brilliance of the twisting storyline. Diego loses control while fighting his jealousy and anger when he catches Finn in a compromising position, now he finds himself alone in a strange land with strange fae, and his only wish is that Finn was with him. A good deed backfires on Finn and now he finds himself back in the land of the fae with no clue of what happened to Diego, stuck with the Fomorian Finn will do anything trying to get back to Diego’s side. There is much more that happens with the fae being forced to join up and put the past behind them, they also discover the depraved depths the humans will go to in the name of National security.

I really loved this story because it has such a different storyline to anything I have read before, at first I thought it would just be the normal fantasy story where one human discovers all the fae’s secrets but it expands bringing in more people until the shocking reveal. Finn and Diego really get dragged through it this time and if you thought that the fight with the wendigo (from the first book Finn) was tough on them then I have to tell you the trials they go through in this one makes it look like a walk in the park. Finn is his usual incredible self but he has grave doubts about his being the right person for Diego, it hits his confidence when other fae tell him he isn’t good enough. Diego is the same caring person that we love and know, but he does annoy when he ignores Finn in favor of the other fae at times, yes some of them are ill but seriously you don’t ignore the one you love when they need reassurance.

There is so much that happens that I really don’t want to ruin the story for others, but Finn and Diego’s relationship proves to be stronger than anything that was thrown at it. Jealousy rears its head several times, we meet several new wonderful fae, there’s conflict and danger, there’s horrendous torture, there’s incredible love and endless hope, there’s a daring rescue and a race that stands up for itself against the odds. This story was just incredible; it expands to encompass more people so it widens the range of where the story can go, it’s beautifully written and all the characters are fantastic, Finn and Diego’s relationship is tested and only gets stronger, it is a true privilege to read.

I recommend this to those who love fantasy and contemporary merging, who love problems being fixed and solutions found, who love drama and angst, daring rescues and confronting the world with the truth.

Blurb: Rafael Schiller, vampire and sexual god without peer, believes himself the top of the food chain, until a bizarre creature feeding in an alley scares the deathless hell out of him.

Rafael Schiller’s had a long road and he’s forgotten the meaning of several human words along the way. Commitment? Relationship? Love, for all the gods’ sakes? What does a vampire need those for? He’s completely content treating his long string of one-off lovers as midnight snacks. He makes it good for them and has no reason for guilt or grief. Some nights still induce an odd, hollow ache, but he can just drown it in the next conquest. Master of his universe, he lives without a care…until he encounters a bizarre creature feeding in an alley.

It’s caught his scent, and now that it’s hunting him, Rafael remembers a word from his childhood. Krsnik—the hunters, the monsters who feed on the blood of vampires. He could run, but he’d be running forever, and that would sure as hell take the fun out of life. Time to figure out what the creature really is, what can defeat it, and why he feels so drawn to it

Review: Rafael is a vampire and has become so use to being the top of the food chain, the hunter that now being the hunted is quite new to him. Part of him fears the thing that is eating vampires, part of him is intrigued.

Oh, wow! This one had it all.  There are vampires, death angels, hunters, and a complicated but slightly sweet love story. There is lots of action from the beginning and twists galore. What more can I say, nail-biting, frightening, sexy, and fabulous. I would love a full-length story on this one!

I highly recommend this story for a cold winter’s night to snuggle up with. It’s full of a little bit of everything. If you like, 50’s songs, vampires, death angels, twist and turn galore, nail-biting suspense and some fairly hot mansex this is for you!

PHOTO DESCRIPTION:
While the cell is sparse and cold, at least this one has a bed. The figure resting there is too thin; too still, the prominent bones the result of long starvation, the stillness the product of too much anguish and abuse. He watches, though. An anxious, intelligent mind still occupies this frail and failing body, one that watches and wonders about the new guard occupying his cell each night.prisoner

STORY LETTER:
Dear Author,

He enters my cell daily at ten pm. He leaves in the morning at six am. He never says a word. Never moves from where he sits right beside the thick steel door. He does not beat me. He doesn’t take me to the tiled room at the end of the corridor. He doesn’t goad me, smirk when I wince afterwards, cry, or scream. I’m not sure what he does when I drift off, into deep, exhausted, pain-drenched sleep. I think he just watches. A fixture, a security, so they may state that I’m not left unattended. Sometimes I wish…

I would prefer that this is realistic, no character death, no paranormal/urban fantasy story. Sci-Fi and historical are okay though. I do not need sex, some cuddling would be fine, hurt/comfort is fine. No need for a HEA, I’m happy with a HFN or the hope for a HFN.

Bonus points if you don’t turn this into a BDSM story, and instead go for the chamber drama of prison life, potentially in a non-democratic country or dystopian world.

Please have fun writing it!

Sincerely,

Steelwhisper

Review: I’m an admitted fan of sci-fi and this story contains a bit of that, but the main concept is of imprisonment, surviving torture, psychological manipulation, and a cunning brilliant rescue attempt. It’s dark and edgy, and intriguing. A great mind teaser!

Review: Hades (Aiden) doesn’t know what to do, his wife has just served him with divorce papers and kicked him out of the palace. His nephews and his friend, Charon (Karl), rally round to help pull him out of his misery. Tiberius (Ti) has fallen on hard times and lives on the streets, drink and depression plaguing him. Ti just wants a place to sleep undisturbed when a shambling figure disturbs him and Death finds him. Who would have thought that the God of the Dead would save a life?

This is a great story of new beginnings and discovering love, mystery and a new twist with the Greek Gods. Hades has to begin a new life in the human realm when his wife wants a divorce. With the help of his ever faithful ferryman, Charon, he is encouraged to take up a new profession as a Private Investigator. His first case catches his eye when he realizes that a string of murders must be connected and he begins to investigate. Coming across a young homeless man who witnesses the murder of another homeless man. Ti is just trying to keep out of the cold, he doesn’t know for sure what he saw, but he wakes up in a warm room with a man who says he wants to help him. Ti doesn’t know what to make of the gorgeous strange man and his scary looking friend, but he finally decides to stick around to help discover who is murdering homeless men and why.

I really loved this book with Hades as a wonderful character with a great love of dogs, Charon as a great friend and with Ti as the victim of circumstance who catches the eye of a lonely God. Hades and Ti’s relationship is a slowly progressing one. They offer each other comfort and friendship and then they take it to the next level with Hades willing to give it all up just to have Ti back. The mystery is interesting and leads to danger for Ti and has Hades calling his family for help.

It was really interesting to see how this story was woven, with Hades having to look back on his relationship with Persephone and seeing the truth of their relationship. It was really telling how Hades was more affected by the loss of Cerberus. How Hades has an instant protective instinct over the waif he finds in an alley and how he begins to open up towards the young man. Ti inadvertently seeing something he shouldn’t and now in grave danger and not even knowing it. The developing love between the two and the risks that are taken were excellent. All the characters are brilliantly written and wonderfully described. This is a great story for an afternoon of relaxation and enjoyment.

I have to recommend this to those who love updated Greek Gods, paranormal, mystery, finding love unexpectedly, new beginnings and a great ending.

Blurb: Zack thought he had a strange job before. Working as a Marine medic in a secret government installation was odd, but working as a human liaison to the fae and as the personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre. Throw in the fact that he’s pretty damn sure he’s fallen in love with his boss, and things are close to unmanageable.

Of course, around the fae, a man learns never to say ‘things can’t possibly get any worse.’ Unexplained events have begun to plague the human world. Strange sightings, spontaneous explosions of magic and odd bends in reality crop up. When Finn falls terribly ill and a monstrous creature attacks Zack one night, things quickly slide into disaster. Lycanthropy, loose-cannon mages, and Lugh conspire to make a hellish mess out of things – but the real peril begins when Diego loses an important piece of his mind.

Review: This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Zack is the personal security guard for the fae prince, Lugh, and although he is attracted to the sidhe, he steers clear of an entanglement just like he has for his entire life. Lugh feels more for Zack than Zach realizes, but getting through to the human is impossible. when Zach is attacked by a werewolf everything changes when Lugh has to resort to desperate means to keep him safe. Over with Diego and Finn, Finn has shifter’s fever and is quite ill. Diego is juggling his responsibilities and puzzled by the strange sightings and magical outbursts, while a group of young adults try to gain his attention. As the saying goes ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’ but these good intentions just might destroy them all.

I will advise readers to have read the other books in the series, as this story does mention events from the previous book Diego. I have to say that this is a wonderful addition to the Endangered Fae series, giving us a story about what happens after the veil has been opened and some of the consequences of the resurrected human magic. Zach and Lugh are the main relationship focus of this story, with them finally coming clean with each other, but it isn’t until misunderstanding are cleared up and Zach realizes that he means more to Lugh than he first thought. Diego plays a large part in this story, and even though we don’t see him for some of it, he is still in the background pulling deadly strings. We are introduced to several young characters who add to the storyline with their well-meaning, though nearly deadly, interfering.

There is a lot going on in this story and it all overlaps, Finn is struck down with shifter fever, an illness not seen in hundreds of years, Zach is attacked by a creature that was thought to be extinct and Lugh has to protect him, Diego and Zach try to find a cure for Lycanthropy and then Diego is kidnapped and an evil is unwittingly unleashed. Lugh and Zach with the help of their other friends try to hunt the evil down, but Lugh is then captured, and the real fun begins. So there is a lot going on with the storyline and much of it is connected, so there are no loose ends or confusing plot, the characters are all well written and their parts fit well.

So in all honesty this is a fantasy that draws you in with its imagination and then keeps you reading by the ever-evolving storyline, with the angst and want of romance, with the misunderstandings of men and the good intentions of young adults. I found this story to be really well written, and for the most part, found that the actions taken when compassion is removed and obligation enforced, to be something that could happen. I thoroughly enjoyed going along on this adventure with Lugh, Zach, Diego and Finn and I am looking forward to, hopefully, a new book in the series.

I will recommend this story to those who love fantasy, fae, paranormal, a great storyline, a hard-fought romance, some hot sex, explosions, kidnappings, rescues, facing the consequences and a great ending.

Blurb: A mysterious distress call draws the crew of the Hermes to what appears to be an empty, drifting ship. Drawn to the handsome, traumatized man, the crew’s communication officer, Isaac Ozawa, makes Turk his personal responsibility. Isaac offers Turk kindness and warmth to counter the horror he experienced.

Turk longs for Isaac, but he harbors dangerous secrets. His brain is a military experiment gone wrong. Glossary for words and pronunciation at end of book pg410

Review: Isaac is the communication officer on the Hermes when a distress call comes in from a drifting ship.  What they find there shocks and horrifies the entire crew.  They find one survivor who has dangerous secrets, but that doesn’t stop Isaac from being attracted to him. Turk has to get to the ESTO HQ (Eridani Sector Treaty Organization) to fulfill his duty.  He ends up falling in love, but knows the danger is too great.

This is a fantastic, brilliantly written story that draws you in and doesn’t let you go until the very last page. Isaac was a fighter pilot with the Altairian fleet until he had an implant fitted and it didn’t mesh.  Now it’s like having a ticking time bomb in his brain. Turk is a Corzin warrior who was leant to the ESTO for three years.  He has been sent to their HQ by an Admiral who is trying to keep him out of the hands of another unscrupulous Admiral.

The descriptions in this book are incredible, some are pretty gruesome, some will make your stomach churn, some are touching and some will make you sigh. The relationship between Isaac and Turk is far from easy and none of it is really their fault. Turk tries to protect Isaac, but Isaac reacts badly thinking he has been stood up and lashes out when he spots Turk and it doesn’t end well for either of them. When Turk and Isaac escape, it is only the beginning of a journey that will take them across the stars and bring a civilization out of hiding.

I have to say that a science-fiction story that can embrace romance and danger combining the two and leave you feeling like you have enjoyed both to the fullest is few and far between.  but this story hits all the right spots, it left my inner nerd, my inner romantic and my inner blood thirsty b***h all satisfied. The progression of this story is timed nicely, it moves smoothly along with no jagged edges anywhere to be seen, everything gets tied off nicely.

The characters are all well portrayed and well-rounded out in such a way that you can imagine them perfectly, along with their personality’s, the sex is incredibly hot and the development of Turk and Isaac’s relationship is intense but brilliantly done.

I recommend this to everyone who loves science-fiction, angst, danger, love, incredible stories, hot sex, happy ever afters and an absolutely brilliant read.
