Blurb: When a serious bout of writer’s block threatens to delay mystery author Drew Daniels’s newest book, his aunt offers her New Orleans apartment in the heart of the French Quarter as a writing retreat. She neglects to mention that it’s occupied by the enigmatic and sexy Finn Murphy, a cemetery tour guide with a penchant for Victorian attire and a Cajun accent.

A body discovered in an open crypt forces reclusive Drew to deal with Finn’s eccentric group of friends and his underlying attraction to the hot Cajun—despite warnings about Finn’s violent past. Drew might write this stuff, but he’s never had to solve a real-life murder. With a deadline looming and a killer on the loose, this retreat is proving to be anything but helpful for Drew’s novel. Drew can only hope he won’t end up a tragic tale for the Ghostly Legends & Lore, Inc. haunted tour.

Review: Drew travels to historical New Orleans to stay at his aunts place in the hopes of curing his writers block. What he does not expect is for a sexy man, Finn, to already be occupying the space.  Drew finds himself thrust into a real life murder mystery and a slew of suspects to boot.

I loved Finn’s telling of the history of New Orleans. With its breath-taking beauty yet deadly past it certainly had me intrigued from the start. We get an introduction into the characters in this setting as the investigation to the murder starts. The investigation itself seemed to go as expected. Though this is a novella it was beautifully written with the right amount of history, spookiness and romance that made it an excellent story.

There was nothing about this book I did not like. Highly recommended.

Review: Vespar, an assassin for hire, takes on a job. He has struggled with his urge to kill. But upon meeting his target the feeling lessens. As he gets to know Marcolm he becomes infatuated with him to the point he cannot do what he was hired for.

I really enjoyed this story. Vespar was intent and serious. I loved how well equipped he was in dealing with certain things that come up throughout the story. Marc was a little too trusting considering people were out to kill him. I felt considering who his dad was he would have been a bit more cautious.

I loved the quick escapes and thinking Vespar did when confronted with danger. The main thing that threw me was the end. I did not understand how one could make the past different from what happened. Wouldn’t that mean that Marc and Vespar’s lives would have been different than what they were?

Other than that I loved everything else. The romance, tension, adventure and mystery were awesome. This is a great read.

Blurb: Angel Daniels grew up hard, one step ahead of the law and always looking over his shoulder. A grifter’s son, he’d learned every con and trick in the book but ached for a normal life. Once out on his own, Angel returns to Half Moon Bay where he once found… and then lost… love.

Older and hardened, West returns to Half Moon Bay and finds himself face-to-face with the man he’d lost. Now West is torn between killing Angel or holding him tight.

Review: Angel Daniels and West Harris spent a wonderful summer together when they were younger. Now years later Angel is back in town. West and Angel but heads in a business dispute.

But in between all the emotional drama is danger in the form of an unseen threat wanting both men dead. Heart stopping, riveting, fast paced this book packs a punch. I had a problem with the fact that it seemed as though Angel and West wanted to reconnect something would happen to break it apart. As a result it seemed as though their relationship was an afterthought to all the other things going on.

Aside from that I really enjoyed both characters and the struggles they work through as they seemed to grow more. Entertaining and addicting this addition leads the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions.

Great read with engaging characters throughout.

Review:

Garrett Leigh - My Mate Jack sMy Mate Jack: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Despite of the few issues I’ve had with this book, I couldn’t put it down. I adore Garrett Leigh. I liked every single book she’s written so far. My Mate Jack is no different, the friends to lovers team is my favorite by far. Add to that the British terms and phrases and I was sold.

Will and Jack have known each other before their teen years, have always been best mates and had each others’ backs. Jack is the first person Will came out to and he supported him unconditionally. Will has a secret crush on Jack that he will never admit to for fear of destroying their precious friendship. Will and Jack experiment together a few times, first a kiss, then something more, but Jack is not gay and never will be.

Fast forward a few years and Will and Jack each go their own way in life: Will to Uni and Jack to Ibiza to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a famous D.J. They keep in touch through sporadic emails and text messages but their relationship has cooled a lot. It frustrated me to no end because you could tell they still care about each other, but I guess when life gets in the way, there’s nothing to do but live it.

Eventually Jack and Will get together again, they visit each other but things between them are tense. Will is still very much in love with Jack and Jack is still as clueless as ever. And if you think that’s not dramatic enough, there is family drama, unresolved issues, and jealous boyfriends as well.

The guys do get their happy ending (at least for now) but Jack is still not gay; he’s not straight either. Jack simply likes Will and nobody else will do, and I absolutely loved that about him.

What annoyed me was the lack of communication between characters. All the drama and heartbreak could’ve been avoided if Will and Jack talked through their confusion and mixed feelings. And the length of time between their emails got me very mad. I do understand they were busy but you should still make time to exchange emails with your best mate. They were both acting twatish and I wanted to whack them upside the head.

I can’t wait for the next book because we’re going to see how they handle their relationship now that they live together. Recommended for those who love friends-to-lovers and gay-for-you stories.

Garrett Leigh - Lucky Man Cover sLucky Man: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

So far I’ve never read any book written by Leigh that I didn’t love and this one isn’t an exception.

Fenn is Jack’s very close friend and band mate and he is such a likeable character. He is honest and truthful, real, sweet and flawed. Leigh did such a good job writing his condition, because while it wasn’t overly dramatic, it still packed a punch. Finn’s day to day life is constantly impacted by his condition, and we got to see it all, the good days and the bad. It was all presented to us in a way that raises awareness to the fact that people affected by this illness are still able to lead happy, content lives and that they shouldn’t be treated any differently than anyone else.

When it was all set and done, I feel like I’ve learned a few things about this illness I didn’t know before. Leigh is one of those rare authors who manage to show us characters that suffer from different illnesses, and make us see them as real, flawed, people who are no better or worse than the rest of us.

Danny is a young police detective who’s distanced himself from his family. He is a very lonely person and the way he bonded with Finn is very real and heartwarming. I love that there’s no drama in his past, no abuse or anything like that, which caused his separation from his family. Sometimes families are just not that close and manage to drift away from each other, which is the case here.

I like Danny a lot, and I like him even better with Finn. But I appreciate his dedication to solving the string of murders that form the plot that’s woven around Finn and Danny’s budding romance. When the danger came, it wasn’t over done, and it wasn’t too long, just short and to the point, which I appreciated tremendously.

Fenn and Danny’s sexual relationship is sweet and hot, passionate and just plain beautiful. They have that deep connection that I always crave to see, and while the sex scenes are not extremely wordy or detailed, they pack a punch.

This book was amazing, I enjoyed reading it and couldn’t put it down (yep, I was still awake at 2AM reading this).

Highly recommended!

Review:  I am never sure of what to expect from an author I have never read before so I am always a bit leery of reading them.  The title is what caught my attention, but only so far as I had no clue what Zozobra actually meant.  As for the story itself let’s just say it was not what I expect.

I do have to say that I do love a good detective story or should I say a sexy man with a gun.  It is a unique story with some very interesting characters.  Although I am not sure if I actually liked it or not.  BJ was shot two years ago, which was the same time Del dumped his ass.  It would seem Del couldn’t handle blood and wounds like a true man could.  He had needs which led him to Emilio.  Emilio was a gigolo who took some very sexy pictures, and now Del needed them back.  So he goes to the one man who could help him.  Which was weird that BJ took the assignment.

Now his secretary was not one of my favorite characters but only because she didn’t much care for his lifestyle.  Complex plots, interesting story lines, and crazy characters were just a bit of what is expected from this story.  The story itself was a bit dry for me and not as entertaining as it should have been.  I hate to admit that I skimmed quite a bit from it.

I am afraid that this story just didn’t flow right for me.  It was a bit on the slow side of things and didn’t really do much for my attention span.  I am afraid that this book sounded pretty good but when I started reading it I just couldn’t get into it.  It has great potential but failed to deliver.  I just hope the next book is a bit more entertaining.  As for this one, it just wasn’t really for me.

Review:  This is a new author for me so I was a bit leery of reading his work.  Never knowing what I am going to read is not my idea of fun.  However I found this story intriguing.  It was a bit slow on the up take but once it evens out, was at a pretty good pace

Now for the title, all I can say was that it was creepy to say the least.  I was not a fan of the name to say the least.  Dominic finds out that his neighbor’s son was in the hospital for a drug overdose, it sent Dom into finding out what happened.  It is said that they just don’t know if it was a suicide or homicide.  However it also gives him a chance at seeing Jonathan, his boyfriend.  Now after the trip to the hospital and that particular talk, the story starts to speed up in pace which is a blessing to me.

Now the characters were a bit non-descriptive and too much like everyone else.  Dom himself doesn’t stand out like he should.  He doesn’t even come off as an actual detective or investigator to me which makes it seem strange for him to actually be doing an investigating.  Now his relationship with Jonathan is dry and un-inspiring to me.  I don’t care for open relationships and never will so that lost points with me.  Plus Dom thought he couldn’t do any better than his boyfriend, and that was another loss.  He doesn’t really stand out and I had trouble connecting.

Now the whole story was dry, a bit boring and not as thought out as it should have been.  There was just too much missing for me to get into.  I seemed to not be able to connect with the story what so ever, other than the humorous parts.  What happened to the bad guys after all, I mean there is no ending to that part.  Now the story had some great potential but failed somehow.  I hate to say it but had this been a movie it would have rated pretty good but as a book it will take some getting used to it.  For me however I am afraid that this book was not for me.

Review: This trilogy follows the lives of Sean and Asbjorn as they struggle through ups and downs to make a life for themselves.

BreakfallLGBreakfall

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

There was a lot of information about martial arts in this story. It was a bit much and the actual story seemed to fall to the background because of it. Then through in the mix a stalker and there is your story. I don’t know how I feel about the way Sean was treated by Asbjorn after he was brutally attacked by the stalker. Seemed to me if he cared for him he would have been more understanding.

SwordfallLGSwordfall

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

This book picks up where the first book ended. The stalker/assassin is back with a vengeance and all Sean’s new self-confidence is slowly torn away. Needing a change of scenery Asbjorn takes Sean to see his family. But things go from bad to worse as added stress and another attack leaves them reeling and Asbjorn wanting to remove the threat to Sean permanently.

LandfallLGLandfall

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

The killer is finally taken care so the couple should be happy but with the pressures to finish college mounting Sean ends up getting ill. Asbjorn feels out of sorts as well but when Sean gets a letter in the mail saying he’s won a boat they head off for some much needed rest and relation. Unfortunately things do not go according to plan as per usual. They get stranded on an island, a body washes ashore.

All in all it was a good series with some major issues being dealt with as one struggles to come to terms with happened to him and the other trying his best to protect them both from a killer and the world. But as with life it does not come without its ups and downs. Great read.

Review:  Greg Herren’s mysteries are always fun to read; I am finding that out first hand. I am happy to say that this time Colin stuck around even in the end. Although this time it was Frank who was gone most of the time, but then again he was becoming a damn good wrestler. The amazing Ninja Lesbian’s make another wonderful appearance to save our sexy Scotty. I would definitely recommend reading these books in order.

Well at least it is not Mardi Gras time in this book, but football time.  I have to admit that I just don’t get the fascination of football, but at least the guys asses are nice to look at. However for New Orleans the Saints are looking like they are heading to the Superbowl.  So Scotty’s family is throwing the party of a lifetime.  That is until Jared brought in the nasty Miss Louisiana Tara Bourgeouis, or should I say the ex and dethroned Miss Louisiana.  A homophobic bitch who deserved what she got.  However it makes Jared the perfect patsy.

Too bad shortly before that another woman, just as homophobic as Tara is shot and killed.  However there is a twist to that which might just surprise those of us.  It would seem she is not who she says she is or what she is.  The gun used just happens to belong to Scotty’s mom and Jared is his cousin so of course he is going to get to the end of this.  That is if he lives long enough.  Oh I do love some amazing twists.

However I have to admit that when you think about a church that is filled with hate and bigotry, you can guess who the killer is pretty fast, or can you?  Now the story rated a five, but the drug use brought it down once more.  I mean really a priest using drugs with our characters is not a good add.  I would wish for one book that doesn’t have our sexy men using drugs.

Other than that it was pretty damn good and I would definitely recommend it.

Review: Cole, Sean’s cousin, is looking for a fresh start after his military enrollment comes to an end. He decides to visit Sean and is shocked that his cousin is with a vampire. He panics and leaves. Cole has a low tolerance for the paranormal until he is introduced to Rafeal.

I loved that the story did not start with Cole and Rafeal. Instead it built up to them meeting, Cole coming to grips with his bigotry and seeing there are things out there that are worth taking a chance on. Sean and Arturo are still very much in love in this story and it shows throughout.

I simply loved the entire story. The two couples blended well together and the story flowed from one to the other and dealt with different issues going on. All in all it was a great read.
