David Shaughnessy was content in his life as a police detective in Armata, California. It lacked the visceral, sick thrill that came with exorcising demons, but it was better for him, saner. Until the night he got called out to a vicious murder in the woods, and met Dallan Jaeger. The older man and Interpol agent is much more than he seems to be, and their connection is immediate, powerful. Trust blooms quickly as they learn to work together to pursue the evil fae responsible for the murders.

They must learn to do more than trust each other if David is to fulfill his birthright and claim what was so long denied him. Only then do they have a hope of catching the killer…in the Twist.

Review: When I first saw this book it fascinated me, but I still wasn’t to sure I wanted to read it. I still picked it but sat on it for quite awhile. I have never really been one to pick a story by an author I have not read before, but still the story called to me. There was just something about it that drew me to it.

I have never been a fan of dark stories, horror or even paranormal mysteries. This story however, once I started reading it kept my attention from the first word. It was compelling and extrememly dark. The characters are very unique and so are their stories.

There is a dead child in a tree, murdered and left for them to find. Then to find out that it is not one child that this evil has taken but twelve. Twelve innocent’s to be slaughtered by an evil no one knows about. David is an ex-priest who has a dark past. Parents gone, they were raised in a horrible place that did more to them in the name of evil. Only to be taken by priest that were cruel and sadistic. He has left the priesthood and is now a police detective who deals with the worst one can see.

Dallan works for Interpol and is older than dirt. He is the leader of the Hunters. A paranormal group that hunts the evils down and takes them to where they were meant to be. Twelve children have lost their lives and Dallan is sent in to find him. What it leads him to is a man who has been hurt and scarred, but whose heart is still so big and powerful. It leads him to a family he had not expected.

David must open his mind to the things that could be and what he is. He must claim his birthright and fight with the hunters. It will also lead him to his heart.

Now this is one book that I would love to put a higher than five mark on. It is a very fascinating story that made me hunger for more. I can not wait to get my hands on the next story. This is one book that might change my mind on stories like this. I would definitely recommend this.

Even as Roman tries to help Nicholas recover from his injuries, a new threat looms. Lately more beings from the fae have invaded the human realm, and Oiredon, another fae master, wishes an alliance with Roman and his charges to aid in overthrowing Azgarth.

Blurb: College senior Cory Long tracked his missing sister to the magical Moonlight Market to bring her home. Instead, he found a disorienting world of performers and hawkers, bizarre sights and sounds, and one very familiar showman, Sanderson Beets. Like a drowning man, he latched onto Sanderson, trusting him to navigate the twists and turns of the Market as unerringly as he had steered Cory to passion in their furtive trysts on campus.

But Sanderson was tired of being the quickie in the alley.

Sanderson Beets had escaped the Moonlight Market to attend college, hoping to settle into a normal life, maybe meet someone and fall in love. To obtain that new life he made a dangerous bargain. And when the sinister woman known as the Weaver of Dreams is involved, second chances always come with strings attached…and sacrifices. Sanderson’s debt has come due, and the only payment he has to offer is Cory, and their chance at a relationship.

Review: Cory and his sister Poe have had a hard life. Poe had been injured in the same accident that had killed their parents. Cory took over taking care of Poe, basically giving up his life. Poe had been badly burned and her soul was wasting away. Then she found the magic in the Moonlight Market.

Cory was a senior in college and was trying to get to know Sanderson. However Sanderson had a dark secret. He was a carne, but he had to give something up to be able to go to school and have a different life. But payment time was coming up. When Cory showed up looking for his lost sister, Sanderson was to give him to the weaver. But his heart shows him a different direction.

This story starts with sex between our two main characters but nothing more. They might have had a chemistry, but it was hard to tell with this story. More anger, pain and stress is what you get with this story. The ending was actually better then I had expected, but I will admit that I wished I had never read this story.

It has a dark tone to it, and if I had read the blurb first, I would have never even gave it a chance. This is one of the creepiest stories I have ever came across. The story itself is well written and the plot is extremely good. The problem is there is no connection with the characters at all. Why give up a life, if the dang idiot girl is over the age limit. The old weaver is just a witch, and we all know where witches end up.

This is one of the worst stories I have read and I am afraid that it has made it difficult to even think of reading another book by this author. I hate to admit it, but this story was definitely not for me.

Review: Everything that has happened throughout the series comes to a culmination in this exciting addition to the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge. Here we get Adrian’s POV. Not only that we also see him have to make some very hard decisions when push comes to shove as the danger escalates.

I loved Adrian’s character. Yes he is fighting his vampire side but also retains his fairy side which seems to balance him out with Thad’s help. Unfortunately that seems to be losing ground in this story. I really felt for Adrian. His transformation into what he must become to defeat the evil once and for all shocked me as I did not figure that out. I absolutely loved the twist regarding Adrian.

With the help of Allies, friends, family and his mate Adrian faces his fate head on with surprising results that I found quite pleasing. I have never enjoyed reading a series as much as I did this one. It was well written, the plots intriguing and the characters engaging. I was sad to see this series end but happy that I had the chance to read it.

I highly recommend this series to all.

Review: Oh my was this story so good. Drake is Mason’s mate and has adjusted to the paranormal world well. Drake begins having dreams that are strange and horrifying. They begin to take their toll on the man as time goes on. He does not what to do or who to tell.

What is worse is the enemy that got away is back with a vengeance. This time said enemy has help and Drake is thrust into a nightmare unlike any other when he is forced to remember who he was. It seemed to me that the enemies in these books love to play mind games with others. I was glad Drake saw through it and fought with all his heart when Mason as in danger.

This series is best read in order as each book picks up where the other leaves off. I was happy to read Drake’s POV in this one and see how he reacted and thought in different circumstances.

Chocked full of twists and turns, suspense, mystery and action this book had me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Fantastic addition to the series. Highly recommended.

The Raven Prince & Other Stories

by

Jean-Paul Whitehall

Our Lady of the Axe: In a Regency England where magic used to be real, Eleanor, her dear friend Diana, and three young girls are kidnapped. It will take all of Eleanor’s strength and courage, plus a magical axe and cleavage (not that kind) to set them free, and foil the man behind the kidnapping.

Edging: Will a mistake about meaning make a mess for Tommy and Vince? Or maybe lead to something more?

The Plan That Didn’t Gang Aft Agley: Jack’s plans have a tendency to go way agley. He hopes his special plan for Billy at football practice is the one that won’t.

Family Be Damned: Look for the two Br’er Rabbit moments. One: She wasn’t unhappy Tommy got paid to take her to the eighth grade dance. She even slipped him $25 to agree. Two: Her mom made her older brother take her to the dance. The $50 she paid him was just a sisterly bonus.

The Raven Prince: Sixteen-year-old Mike hopes he can blend in at his new school. Except he’s short, slender, goth-looking with the shiny black hair, black eyes and thick lashes, wears an elegant suit and tie, and drives a Mercedes convertible. He’s also gay, a raven shifter in a human school and eventually he has to be the Raven Prince.

Standing up to the bullies who rule the school—Preacher’s Son, Banker’s Son, Sheriff’s Son, Principal’s Daughter—isn’t blending in. When the Four can’t get to Mike, they go after him through his best friend, Johnny, the devoutly straight wrestling star who doesn’t care about the gay thing.

If Johnny is hurt, will it take the Raven Prince to get justice? Raven justice?

100% of the author’s royalties will be donated to a local LGBT youth organization.

Blurb: Like the electricity he commands, Pierce Blackmoor streaks through life on raw power and pure sexual energy. His conquests on the battlefield and in the bedroom form his foundation, but that bedrock crumbles when his younger brothers’ abilities surpass his own. Pierce finds himself at an all-time low, and clawing his way back to the top becomes his only concern.

Pierce’s plan to reassert his dominance, however, takes a backseat when he wounds Kale Aquilo, an emissary of the Beast King, lord of all shifters.

Kale’s beguiling nature shoots like a lightning bolt straight to Pierce’s soul, and when the soft-spoken Kale relays that a virus is killing his people, Pierce abandons his quest for power to do something he has never done before—protect someone other than himself.

As Kale, Pierce, and his brothers struggle to find the root of the magical virus spreading plague across Aeaea, the shifter island, they face a gauntlet of old and new foes. Soul struck, Pierce and Kale must uncover the truth behind the conspiracy gathering in the shadows.

Review: Pierce is the oldest of Blackmoor brothers and feels he is no longer on the top. With doubts about himself he seems a bit more abrasive than he was. He meets Kale when he attacks him thinking he is there under suspicious circumstances.

Kale is an emissary of the Beast King, lord of all shifters. He was sent to find the conclave and find help for his people who are dying from a mysterious virus. What follows is one hell of a story with bad guys galore of all species who follow a mysterious mans bidding.

I loved the whole story. I was enraptured from start to finish as I tagged along with Pierce and Kale as they try to find out what is going on and try to get answers from the conclave. I honestly did not like the conclave. It seemed as though they were constantly withholding information for their own gain.

Action scenes, battles, romance and a whole slew of interesting characters made for an awesome journey. I highly recommend this entire series to all.

Review: Ayo is a shy and sweet boy who has been bullied when one day an accident sets his life on a different path. After the king tells his father he can have anything he wishes he sends his son with the king and his advisor Issa, a tiger and prince, to Azizi.

Unfortunately while there he becomes homesick and as a result insults Issa. He turns into a beast. Demanding answers Issa calmly tells him the the city is cursed. If you hurt anyone in residence you will turn and the only way to turn back is to make amends and mean it.

Ayo learns a valuable lesson to treat others kindly. I mean why would you treat someone as you have been treated if you were bullied? You know how it feels so why make someone else feel like that. Treat others as you would have them do to you. Just because someone hurt you does not make it right for you to do the same to someone else.

Blurb: Misaki “Aki” Itou is a psi – a person with mutated DNA granting him psychic abilities. He’s also a contracted companion – a whore. It may not be the perfect profession, but having a roof over his head, food to eat, and not being subjected to torture is a dream come true. He is the top companion at the Hidden Gem, and it makes him enough money to buy the prettiest, most sparkly shoes he can find.

Shane McNaughton is an Irishman who survived the Third World War and works as a cop. As head of Missing Persons, he’s good at finding people, but after the plague mutated his DNA, he has a hard time letting anyone see the monster inside. He’s been paying for Aki’s services for two years, both the psi and the sexual kind, but he wants more from the companion.

Shane needs Aki’s ability to see into another person’s past to track down a serial killer murdering the children of rich and powerful men, but the more they work together, the clearer it becomes that they are linked through a darker past than either of them realizes.

Reviewer: Gigi

Review: An alternative reality, where society has gone through World War II and the US is divided into North and South, with scientists experimenting on human DNA to create clones, and super soldiers, concentration camps, and many societal horrors are the backdrop for an unusual romance.

Each character is fascinating in a way only sci-fi can make them. Aki feels safe in his home, The Hidden Gem, working as a high end prostitute/companion. Sure beats living on the streets, starving, abused and rejected without much of a glimmer in his memory of his true past. Not only does he now live a plush, protected life, as a companion Aki is limited to oral sex and hand jobs because he can’t touch or be touched without a barrier due to his sci ability. But that’s also something he desperately craves, the companionable touch of a lover, Shane in particular.

There are so many characters, and each one piques my curiosity, especially Paris, but I think that’s a whole new book. Candy is one of my favorites, because each MC needs a bestie. The different characters including the owners of the Hidden Gem, and the investigators, and people from Aki’s past all have so much more to mine…lots of back story and so much possibility. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of the support characters.

On top of Aki’s drive to control his mutant abilities, he has to confront and understand his past, so that he no longer needs to live in fear of the future….one he hopes can involve a certain strong, sexy Irish detective.

The narration is really good, sometimes the distinctions feel over the top, but it makes each character very clear and I love that. The sexual content is hot, right up until…..well. I’ll save that surprise. I can’t really tell a lot more about this book without dropping so many spoilers.

If you love a little mystery, action, and science fiction with your MM romance, you’ll love Hidden Gem!

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: Let me start by saying this story was complex. The terminology used in it confused me at times but never the less I understand the nature of what it meant the further I read. A glossary would have been nice though to have a reference to look at. So much takes place in this book there is no way I can cover every character and twist in the review.

The Countermind agency is tasked with keeping psychics from using their abilities in an unlawful way by any means necessary, including reprogramming. This is done by using a telepath. What I found strange that they use other telepaths to scan minds in the guise of looking for rogues. Yet it is against the law for other telepaths to do the same.

There was an overabundance of information throughout this story. So much so that I had to continuously stop and restart reading. I found Jack’s character to be without emotions and cold at times. He seemed almost inhuman. But he thawed the further I read and started thinking for himself at the end.

Alan makes his living as a thief. He’s extremely smart and cunning for his age. There is a massive mystery surrounding who he is which I will not go into less I spoil it for other readers. Arissa is a Countermind agent in training who is a powerful telepath. Zheng is the head of Countermind and most defiantly is not who he seems.

There is abundance of mystery, adventure, deceit, betrayal and drama throughout. All these ingredients and characters made for a great read with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued

As Frank recovers from his assault, Radu finds himself falling for the young man. But loving Frank and not wanting to lose him leaves Radu vulnerable to his demons’ demands. Can he bear to let them feed on the man he loves? Or must he give in to their blackmail and set them free to feast on his entire country?

Review: This is not going to be an easy review as the story is two parts with separate characters for each. To say it was an easy flowing read would be a lie. While I enjoyed reading about Frank and Radu I felt no connection to them. Nor was their story complete before we are dropped into another half of the book.

I have never been so totally thrown off a book before. I’m honestly dreading reading the next in the series.

I honestly felt confused when I finished and had trouble separating details of the stories in the book. As a result I have a headache. I am sincerely hoping that things go better in the second book and we get some clarity as to where things are headed.

If not I may have to give the series to someone else to review. It was an o.k. read.

Review: A man on a mission, Jacob sets out to Italy to discover what happened to his mother and Caleb. Unbeknownst to him an ancient evil is about to invade Ben’s lover Sam and cut down all in its path in brutal fashion. While I love horror stories this one was confusing at times.

There some confusion on my part at times to where exactly the location was referring to as it changed suddenly with no warning. As with all horror books there is a lot of death in brutal fashions throughout.

There were also a lot of POV’s throughout the story. Some I felt were unnecessary to have. Sam was super scary at times in his possession but he also confused me before he was possessed. Ben was sweet and seemed to care for Sam a lot.

I really liked the plot of this story but the delivery was a little wrong to me so it made it impossible for me to enjoy it as much as I should have. It was an ok read.

Wallachian nobleman Radu is recently arrived in Bucharest with his vampire parents. Welcomed as an eligible bachelor, he’s introduced to the enchantress Ecaterina, whose salon is Bucharest’s centre of magical expertise.

But when Ecaterina’s brother dies of a mysterious new plague, it’s clear to Radu that his parents have not been idle. Soon Bucharest is in the grip of an undead epidemic—a less than ideal time for Ottoman Sultan Mahmud, Wallachia’s overlord, to call Bucharest’s nobility to assemble their armies in Istanbul for a holy war against Britain.

The Wallachians have long resented their Ottoman overlords, so Radu seizes the chance to eliminate them while also ridding Bucharest of the undead: he leads an army of vampires to Istanbul and sets them to feed on the Turks.

As Radu’s demons gut the city of Istanbul, their plans become horribly clear. This is only the start. With the Ottoman armies under their control, the undead are poised to suck the life out of the whole world. Radu, his lover Frank, and Ecaterina are appalled at what they’ve unleashed. But they may be too late to stop it.

Review:

Stephen Osborne - Pale as a Ghost CoverPale as a Ghost – Duncan Andrews Thrillers # 1 Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Pale as a Ghost stars private detective Duncan Andrews and his faithful zombie dog, Daisy, his best friend Gina, who is a witch and his boyfriend’s ghost, Robbie, who was killed ten years prior. I liked the story. It flowed smoothly with some humor thrown in. Duncan is able to see, hear and communicate with ghosts hence his ability to see his dead boyfriend. Makes for dating non-existent. He is lonely and wants companionship when he meets Nick.

The cases he takes on are both complex and simple. Find a missing woman and determine who is killing women. The second case takes on a disturbing vibe as he discovers the person is not actually human. This person is copying the jack the ripper murders once every one hundred years. There is plenty of action, suspense and drama to be had throughout this story. I liked the flow of the book. Very well detailed with a hint of more to come.

Stephen Osborne - Animal Instinct CoverAnimal Instinct – Duncan Andrews Thrillers # 2 Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Duncan is on the hunt for a stolen skull belonging to a powerful warlock. This skull gifts the human unimaginable powers while at the same time changing them. Several deaths and many attacks later Duncan’s life is at stake to find the culprit.

A fantastic story with plenty of action, mystery and suspense. I loved the way Duncan left no stone unturned in his quest to find the skull. A television psychic causes Robbie and Duncan problems as well by making Robbie think it’s better for him to move on. I loved it.

Stephen Osborne - The Scarlet Tide CoverThe Scarlet Tide – Duncan Andrews Thrillers # 3 Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

In this exciting addition to the series Duncan is on the case of finding a boyfriend who is acting strange only to discover he’s a vampire. Doing away with a band of vampires is not easy. Duncan gets a shock as the leader Dominic bites him. Amid all this is Nick’s request to Gina to allow him to see ghosts and Robbie’s plans to leave on New Year’s.

I liked this story. Though I do have to say it is getting irritating about the way Robbie and Duncan keep bringing up and pondering Robbie leaving. Either leave or stay already. Make up your minds and stick with the decision.

Stephen Osborne - Dead End CoverDead End – Duncan Andrews Thrillers # 4 Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Duncan Andrews is on the case of an evil ghost hell-bent on destroying lives. Moore was a doctor but also a serial killer. He took the lives of seven young men then his own life. In death he is the embodiment of pure evil. With the help of his team Duncan will attempt to get rid of the ghosts haunting Jason’s, Robbie’s cousin, house.

In this book a lot is going on. A witch hunting group has set sights on Gina for elimination, an incubi is on the loose, Nick has settled into his ghost helping, Duncan and Robbie come to terms with their relationship. I liked all the new twists and turns as they kept the story interesting and intriguing.

Overall:

All in all, this bundle was absolutely awesome. Each book gives the reader an insight into Duncan and Robbie’s lives. The cases bring about a closeness with each other as they work together to solve each one. The paranormal characters were different and fresh for each story and drew the reader in. Demons, incubi, ghosts, witches, hunters, vampires and a zombie dog made for fantastic well written reads. I truly loved them and highly recommend each one.
