Evelise Archer

US Marshal Jaeger Tripp is assigned to the Federal Witness Protection Program. The hurt and destruction he’s seen—along with protecting criminals who are only cooperating with the authorities to keep themselves out of jail—have left him with a bleak and jaded view of both life and people. His current assignment is Wren O’Riley, a computer wizard who witnessed a high-profile cartel hit.

To Jaeger, Wren is the same as any other job. He must protect him long enough to get him to testify at trial, and his personal feelings have no place in his work and must be set aside. But that’s easier said than done. On the run and fighting for their lives, Jaeger and Wren can’t help but grow closer. And Jaeger can’t help seeing beyond Wren’s nerdy exterior to a man who might be just what Jaeger needs to settle his soul and capture his heart—if they survive long enough to get that chance.

Blurb: Since the death of his father, Trick Grigsby has fought to keep his head above water. Following in his father’s footsteps as a talented architect, he hopes to work his way up at the firm. Unfortunately, the company’s new owner barely resembles the man who was once Trick’s father’s best friend. Trick’s days are filled with drudgery and cruel remarks from the man who was supposed to be his mentor—along with his two sons, whose only jobs seem to be making Trick’s life miserable.

But all that is about to change.

Edwin Goodmaker struggled through his fairy godparent curriculum, but his mother—the reigning Fairy Queen—has a simple solution: Edwin will go to New York City and get some practical experience. When he meets Trick, Edwin knows he’s found a worthy charge, and he’s sure he can help Trick achieve all of his heart’s desires. Edwin falls for Trick, but with everything standing in their way, a fairy-tale ending might remain nothing more than a dream.

Review: This is one of those stories where I was drawn in by the blurb since I really don’t have an opinion, or memory, of reading something by either author in the past. It was a very happy choice though because the story is exactly as described in the blurb.

It is a totally sweet romance between a down on his luck human called Trick (Patrick) and a fairy sent to New York for some practical experience as a fairy godfather named Edwin. Edwin arrives in New York after his mother, the Queen of the fairies, sends him to the mortal realm where he saved by Trick. Edwin’s magic is drawn to trick, a man who did a nice turn for him when Trick really has nothing in his own life to be happy about. Edwin makes it is mission to be the best fair godfather that Trick could possibly need. What Edwin didn’t count on was the romance between that developed between them.

The chemistry and emotion between the MCs is sweet and gentle, it’s not an aggressive love – it is something that is both strong and kind. I don’t know how to explain it better than that. The book is stacked with emotion. Trick starts as a down-trodden guy to a man who is strong and certain in the world and it’s all because of Edwin. This book is magical in more ways than one and perfect for any fan of fantasy and true love.

Blurb: Faery royalty have always married for duty rather than love. Prince Chrysanths should be no different – except with a human for a father, the prince known as Puck already is different. When he is betrothed against his will to Prince Sky, Puck flees to his father in the human world, only to have Sky follow.

Prince Sky Song of the Clouds isn’t thrilled with the prospect of marriage either, but is bound by duty to follow through – if he can’t win Puck over, the faery realm might very well dissolve into utter chaos. Too busy arguing, Puck and Sky are unaware there are others with a vested interest in seeing the betrothal fail. In a bid for Puck’s crown, they’ll seek to keep them apart, even as Puck and Sky realize that duty and love don’t always have to be mutually exclusive.

Review: Sweet and fun fantasy, with twu luv, and plenty of interesting twists. Combining the land of the Fae: magical and mystical with contracts, bindings, and rules that don’t apply to the real world, with a contemporary life beyond the Faery mounds. I really thought this was going to be too slow and too sweet for me, it is very YA in that sense, so is a great recommendation for any and all YA readers. But Betrothed has some complex plots and twists that add to the story, adding in some mystery and deceit. Though I really wanted Sky to go all Alpha Fae and just dominate and take what was his, but alas, I’ve been reading too much BDSM and shifter stuff lately. These two Faeries, bound by contract might be bound to repel each other instead, but will magnetism draw them together in the end?

Sky and Puck brought me a different kind of love, one slow to learn, but true to appreciate, and at the climax of the story I found myself shouting for them out loud, cheering for my guys! Even though I knew it must all work out, I was truly worried for a few moments there!

The sexual content is slow building, mild but real, and of course at the end it was climactic.

The narration was very well done, different accents for different characters, smoothly read, and brought me right into the Fae world. I loved this sweet Faery Tale, and recommend for the magic and sweet romance loving crowd.

Review: One day I was out looking for a new audible book when I came across the very first book in this series and from then on I have been caught.  I will admit that I actually listened to the first 7 books before even buying the ebooks.  With this series you must start with book one, otherwise you can get pretty lost on who the characters are and what they are about.

Seb and Hudson have been mates for several years, but a tragic accident sent them into different directions.  A child was killed when Seb ran to protect Hudson instead of the public.  From that time on there was so much friction that you would get burned just bringing it up.  You can see that both men still love each other but there is so much going between them that it would take a miracle to help.

That miracle might just happen when the ones targeting Dex, puts their sights on Hudson.  Now with this there are many twists and turns, but there is one major shock still in store for our sexy little doctor.  I can guarantee that it will shock you also.

I will admit that this is the only series that I have read by this author and more than once.  I can tell you that it is not only entertaining but will keep you on the edge of your seat just waiting for the next shoe to drop.  It has a serious tone to it but there is quite a bit of humor mixed in.  Well what do you expect when Dex is around.

I had a blast reading this and cannot wait to see what happens next.  It is one of the most fascinating tales I have read in a long time.  There is so much action, mixed in with danger that you will not want to miss a bit of it.  I can admit that this author has moved up the ranks in my library quite fast with her stories.  I need to go read her other books, if they are like this one I will be in a happy place.  So over all this is a major win with me, and I would definitely recommend it to all.

Review: I really wanted to love this bundle. But alas I was unable to enjoy it as much as I normally would. Each story had great plot ideas but failed to keep the reading smooth. I was unsure whether this was done deliberately or not. At times I found myself annoyed at some weird sentence phrasings.

I feel each main character of the stories should have had background stories, yet some did not. As a result I was disappointed. But aside from those things it was a good read with great ideas to expand on or go through and eliminate some things while adding others.

This bundle is a total of five stories in the series that have werewolves, fairies, dragons, wizards, humans, imps, firebirds and quite a few others are in these stories as they all struggle to survive and to find the one they are meant to be with for all time while overcoming prejudices and danger. Dramatic and entertaining to a point this bundle has it all.

Good read.

Review:

Simple Men Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

A story about two relationships, Chip and Foster, teachers and Brad and Jason, Football players, that entrance the reader with their simple chemistry and all around stunning ability to see past the day to day lives. I loved how each couple were mesmerized by their partners and wanted to do anything to make them happy. In a sports world dominated by males it cannot being easy being with the same sex but the characters made it almost seem easy, which I enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Another Enchanted April Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Three friends, Doug, Tony and Jerry,  on vacation are hoping for different things. What culminates is a coming together, growing, and understanding that each never realised they were missing. Beautifully written, this story is chocked full of deep meanings as the three find what they were meant to throughout their journey. Highly recommended.

Woke Up in a Strange Place Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

A revealing story about Joe a man who travels in the afterlife searching for lost memories and meeting people who he feels connected to but has no idea why. This book was emotional, thought provoking and a shred your heart strings type of story. It also has a lesson instilled into its fabric. I really loved it even though I was crying by the end. Highly recommended.

Galley Proof Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Logan has a semi successful writing career, a boyfriend and seems content until Brock, his new editor, challenges all he thought he wanted. It’s a book about analysing the things in life the character thought were important and self-reflecting on how much he was going through the motions. Emotional and thought provoking this story has it all. Highly recommended.

Overall:

It is rare that I rate a bundle a five as usually there is at least one story I do not like. This is not the case with this one. Each story was beautifully written and self-reflecting on the characters part as we are lured to travel along with them. I love the almost simple nature of each book. It was heart-breaking, soul searching, joyous, and had me taking a deeper look into my own life. I highly recommend the entire bundle to everyone.

Review: Sinders and Ash is, as you can tell from the title, a modern reimagining of the Cinderella. I was totally and completely charmed by this story. I loved it all, from the actual storyline, to the characters and the excellent narration by Kale Williams, who brought every emotion to life fantastically.

Mark Sintorella (Sinders) is a poor housekeeper who does his best to keep his head down and not make any waves at the resort he works at. He’s had a hard life mainly because he was rejected by his family for being gay. Now at the resort his bosses are not kind to him, a sleazy cook constantly hits on him and other workers who whisper words about him behind his back. Everything changes for him when he meets mysterious guest, Carstairs Pennymaker, which also happens to be the day that he meets the son of one of the richest men in the country, Ashton Armitage.

I suppose there are a number of aspects of this story which force you to suspend your disbelief for the entirety of the book. I think the biggest one for me to wrap my head around was Mark’s continuing to appaear as a female when dressing in the clothes he makes – which are, like in any fairytale, are runway worthy, I think. I think it just got to the point where at the end I was thinking “why?”

All in all, I loved this fairytale of poor boy meets rich boy and they fall in love. Carstairs Pennymaker, the whimsical elven guy (seriously, wtf is he??) is as lovable as the two main characters. A real satisfying read and I can’t wait to get to book 2!

Blurb: Young Snowden “Snow” Reynaldi is brilliant, beautiful, and alone. Though he’s shy, weird, and tolerated by the NorCal University students because he’s a renowned whiz at chess and helps put the school on the map, that doesn’t keep him from dreaming of the object of his desires: Riley Prince, championship quarterback.

Meanwhile, Snow’s one true friend and mentor, Professor Kingsley, marries a woman who secretly wants the chess tournament glory and money for herself. Soon after, the professor collapses and Snow finds himself underwater – literally. In a car!

Seven frat brothers from Grimm College rescue Snow just in time for his life to get even worse, and Snow discovers the one relationship he always wanted slipping away. With evil looming at every turn, Snow must survive if only to prove he’s the fairest of them all and regain the trust of his handsome prince.

Review: Everything about Driven Snow is absolutely awesome! This is a reimagining of the Snow White fairytale, so luckily you don’t need to read book 1 (based on Cinderella) to get all the characters. Once again the narration by Kale Williams just tops off a most wonderful and whimsical tale which takes us into the world of college and grand chess masters.

Snowden Reynaldi, aka Snow, is a champion chess player and a feather in the cap to his college because he is basically unbeatable. He’s shy and super smart and basically the type of nerd everyone can love, especially if you can relate to him. His Prince Charming is the popular jock, Riley Prince. The problem being for any romance is that Riley is deep inside the closet. With a beloved teacher/chess mentor/father figure in addition to a conniving witch who doesn’t want Snow to succeed at the chess championships, all our players are in place.

Well most of them – after all the traditional story is “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”. I have to admit, I was really curious about how this part was going to play out, although the blurb does tell us it’s seven frat brothers from nearby Grimm College but that was only enough information to pique my curiosity. Plus, you know, that whole glass coffin thing – I was really wondering if there was more to that too than we see in the blurb. I have to say that I loved the frat guys, they were all funny and at one point they definitely had more brains than Prince Charming!

Of course being a Pennymaker tale, I was looking forward to the appearance of the fairy godfather elven man himself (I still don’t know what he is). He isn’t in the story as much as I would have liked but he definitely has a helper in the guise of Riley’s friendly neighbor, a kind old lady who is something of a fairy godmother. And now I want to get into book 3 because I am totally charmed by the worlds that Tara Lain has woven using the modern world and fairytales!

Review: Each book in the Werewolves of Manhattan collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I have been reading romance and paranormal’s for over 30 years and can honestly say that I love a good paranormal romance more than any other kind of story.  It was not until 5 years ago that I started read m/m romance stories.  There is just something about the worlds created in them that seem more attractive to me. So over the years you come to cherish and love certain authors more than many others.  It is the way they tell a story that will have you wishing you were right there with them.  And sometimes you wished you were the one falling in love

Tis author’s characters are quirky as hell, protective to the point of well you can guess that answer.  I still have my ultimate favorite ones but many start to work their way into my heart.  Her stories also are full of action, suspense and danger plus some hot sexy time for our guys.  They catch my attention the moment I start reading and keep it all the way to the very last word.  This story gave me everything I could ask for in a story and so much more.

Richard has got to be one of the smartest men I have ever seen.  Things in his life have not always been easy.  His best friend had disappeared when he was a small child after his parents were killed.  He lost both his father and mother to illness.  Then when the company he worked for wouldn’t listen to the dangers of one of his designs, he was fired for blowing the whistle on the dangers.  Now he is working at a store and bartending to make ends meet, as well as paying on his student loans.  To top it off a mob guy from Serbia has his eye on him.  Things are not looking up.  That is until someone connected to his dear friend finds him.

Now here he is with a job at Garou Industires and living with a very sexy man.  Things might just be going good for him.  That is until the Serbian is killed and the cop is trying to frame him.  Let’s see how Julien and the other wolves protect him; well you are just going to have to read this book to find out more.

I love how it has that serious tone to it but there is a bit of humor in it that your attention is captivated throughout it all. I loved the cover and that was what caught my attention first.  I just can’t seem to get enough of this series. There is something about the way that A.C. Katt tells you a story more than likely have you laughing your ass off at parts of it.

It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It also gave me everything I could want in a book. I can honestly tell you that this is going to be one of those types of series. One that I will have to read over and over. I love the way all the feelings they felt was involved in this story. It was the perfect story for me and I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next story.

Kept away from other wolves by his uncle, Tim knows almost nothing about his own kind except that alpha werewolves only want to control and dominate a scrawny wolf like him.

Powerful, intimidating, and the most beautiful wolf Tim has ever seen, Nathaniel makes Tim feel safe for reasons Tim doesn’t understand. For five years he’s lived on the run, in fear of his family and other wolves. Everything about Wolf’s Paw is contrary to what he thought he knew, and he is terrified. Review: Upfront I’m going to say that Little Wolf is a very long audio and you will need the patience to listen. This is book 4 in R Cooper’s series, but the books work as standalone stories too. I have only heard/read the previous book in the series, A Beginner’s Guide to Wooing Your Mate, which despite it being predicated on mates who met in high school and a massive miscommunication, I found quite enjoyable.

The story is about Tim Dirus, who is on the run but was able to settle in Wolf’s Paw for a spell (not literally, well, maybe). Tim is the titular Little Wolf. He also happens to be half human and is hiding a massive secret from his mate and his new friends in Wolf’s Paw. Then there is the town’s sexy sheriff Nathaniel Neri. He instantly knows that Tim is his mate, but is forced to wait for his wary mate, who does not know much about being shifter, while Tim learns about were (though some would say he is quite unwilling).

I know that there will be a lot of people like me – they don’t mind a book which is based off of miscommunication and a rebellious runaway who refuses to get close to anyone, let alone the man that he doesn’t realize is his mate. However, at the same time, like me, there will be plenty of people that find that the plot drags along fairly slowly. It annoyed me to the point I sped up the audio because I couldn’t handle the thought of not finishing. Luckily I did a lot of listening while doing edits on my thesis so things weren’t so bad.

However, there is something I know will annoy a lot of fans of the shifter theme – that’s when one of the main characters sort of/maybe cheats on his mate (even if in this case Nathaniel basically pushed Tim to be with the other wolf if only for experience or to understand his feelings). Tim’s thoughts tend to go around in a lot of circles, which is a major reason why the story seems to drag so long.

But all in all, I have to say I still did enjoy the book. It does have all the elements of enjoyable romance. Not only that, Nathaniel and Tim work well together. I love a good paranormal/shifter romance and this certainly delivers, if only the plot and character development is slow. The other saving grace for the book is Robert Nieman’s wonderful narration.

Review: We have another of Moriel’s Order of the Black Knights in this installment. US Marshal Jaeger Tripp is tough, knows his assignments and carries them out. Lately he is feeling like something is missing. His current assignment is to protect a witness and get him to trial. He hates it. He does not like protecting those he feels is a criminal.

Wren is more than he appears. He is also innocent unlike his family. What has been put in motion is so devious that it blew my mind when it all came to light.

I was impressed with the lengths and details the story went to. Well written and action packed with danger and suspense all throughout. This story will have you on the edge of your seat.

Great installment to an already good series.

Blurb: In a world where monsters are known to—and despised by—humanity, vampire Chaz Solomon hides in plain sight as a detective on the Toronto police force. But freedom from prejudice does nothing to alleviate his guilt over the lover he betrayed to gain his label of “normal.” He spends his days living a lie and his nights in a brothel, seeking company and black-market blood.

When a serial killer preying on both vampires and sex workers leads Chaz and his department on a twisted chase through New Canadiana’s supernatural underground, one of the brothel employees, Sully, becomes the only person Chaz can trust. There’s much more to Sully than a pretty face, and he’s slowly breaching the walls around Chaz’s heart with his intelligence and kind nature.

But as the body count rises and conspiracies come to light, the past Chaz has been trying to escape comes rushing back. Sully might accept Chaz as a vampire, but will he forgive Chaz’s other deceptions? And what will become of Chaz’s life if his secret is revealed? Review: This book is part of a series and is best read in order, although it could be read as a standalone.

Chaz Solomon is a vampire who hides in plain sight as Detective Chip MacDonald, he hides everything about himself so he can live a ‘normal’ life but that might just about crumble around him as a serial killer sets his sights on vampires and sex workers and his two worlds are about to clash.

Sully is a sex worker and is perfectly happy with his life, when ‘Chip’ comes into his life Sully is drawn into an investigation that is horrific and vile but Sully just can’t say no to the appealing vampire.

This is a brilliant story that has us being pulled into a story that is interesting and with characters that are fascinating. Chaz has put his life to good use once he straightened himself out; he’s hidden his true nature, become a different person and is now a detective. He still feels guilt over what he once did to his friend Nat but has done his best to put the past behind him, meeting a man who at first glance he mistakes for Nat he discovers that he wants more than just to exist, he wants to live.

We are drawn into a story that has mystery and suspense; we are drawn into the investigation as first Chaz and then Sully piece together the few clues leading them to a serial killer who has a huge grudge against vampires and sex workers. While Chaz and Sully meander the war field that is their relationship the serial killer gets closer to them than either of them ever wanted.

I loved this story, we have a vampire that is trying to bury his nature so he will be accepted by all and we have a sex worker who doesn’t really care what people think of him. Both men have had hard lives but have handled things differently; they connect on an instinctive level and mesh well together.

This is a brilliantly written story; it flows perfectly and never drags. We are constantly finding out something new which keeps our interest and while we begin to get an inkling about the killer we do get thrown off track once or twice with carefully crafted red herrings. There are a couple of links to the first story Never Lose Your Flame but I do believe you could read this book by itself, although I do recommend reading Never Lose Your Flame first.

I recommend this to those who love urban fantasy, finding love in unexpected places, danger, mystery, a hunt for a clever serial killer and a brilliant ending.

Review: In this second book in the Offbeat Crimes series we are treated to Officer Vikash Soren POV. Vikash is more serious than Kyle was in the first book. But I still enjoyed the difference.

I felt bad for Kyle as his Vikash is still in the closet and has problems expressing how he feels to Kyle. The secondary characters in the story added a delightful funny element to an already fantastic adventure/action packed story.

I simply love this story. It has time travel, weird creatures, paranormal aspects and two lovers who are still feeling each out all the while confronting threats as they appear. A page turner and a story that enthrals you from start to finish. I loved it.

Highly recommended.

Review: This story did not turn out at all like I had thought it would. There was more detail to it than I thought was needed and to slow paced for me. For such a long story, I felt like I was drowning in details. I love a good paranormal, but this came off more fantasy then anything. I could not really get into the characters as I should have. It felt a bit off to me.

Nate is an escort and has come to the attention of a very powerful vampire. However the attention was not what caught my eye, it was the fact that Hunter wanted Nate to be a brother. Which is strange in itself. Now Ben had been turned by Hunter about a year ago, and now here is Nate to help them celebrate. Ben comes off a bit, well off. He is cold in a way that one would not expect, but he doesn’t really seem that happy about Nate. Especially since Nate is immune to him. Then you add in a jealous necromancer, and let’s just say it is about to get all interesting to say the least.

I hate to say that I basically had to rush through this and skimmed most of it. It didn’t really catch my attention like it should have. I also did not really care for the sex business at all, which was a downside for me. Although the way this author wrote it was a bit better than most. There really wasn’t any shame or regret shown, so that was a nice change for me.

I enjoyed the mystery that this story seemed to have going on inside of it. One would sit on the edge of their seats trying to figure it out, was a great plus. I loved the fresh new touch to the paranormal and fantasy world that this author has created, plus it was very quirky in away. So it took a few chapters to get to the point that my attention was captured but I am afraid that it just came too late for me. The ritualistic killings were a bit strange, but for this type of story it rocked. It was not written in a dark tone so that was a major hit for me, because I really can’t get into gross deaths.

I am not really sure if I will read the next book, but since this is the first in a new series I will just wait and see. For now I will just say that this book really wasn’t for me.
