Blurb: Widower Steven drives to the North of England two days before Christmas to meet his estranged son Andrew hoping for a reconciliation. Steven had rejected his son when, as a 19-year-old student, he came out to his parents as being gay. Andrew now lives with his partner Peter who initiates contact with Steven by forwarding on to him the almost childlike ‘Letter to Santa’ that the lad has written asking for a father who loves him.

At first, Andrew is hostile to his father’s overtures but the bad weather conspires to strand them all together over the Christmas period. Father and son both experience a steep learning curve, not helped by the father realizing that his son’s lover is actually older than he is. Proximity breaks down barriers and the three men work together in the spirit of cooperation and of the season to create a Christmas experience, which will change their lives forever.

Review: Coming to terms with his son’s homosexuality, begging forgiveness, both during an impromptu visit to his son and his partner’s county home was difficult enough. Imagine Steven’s surprise when his son’s partner turns out to be his father’s age! That was what greeted him at the door, that and a whole lot of hurt in his son’s eyes.

Can he learn understanding, will Andrew ever forgive him?

Luckily, we have a long holiday weekend in the English countryside to find out! The snowy scene is complete with holiday cooking, decorating, Christmas shopping, Yule log splitting and gathering at a traditional community pub. I really enjoyed the details of the setting for this story, the family coming together and all that involved was icing on Andrew’s Christmas cake! Wonderful little read for the holidays.

I recommend this sweet gem to all.

Review: Hunter has a huge surprise in store for his boyfriend, Clay. It will take the combined efforts of friends and family to pull it off. I really enjoyed reading this wonderfully written book. I was hooked from the start to find out what Hunter’s plan was for Clay. Hunter gets a job with Digigraph and Damon and he become fast friends as well as associates. He even meets his boss Arthur Davenport when he needs a place to hold the party and Arthur let’s him hold it at his home.

There was plenty of drama all throughout. From Marlowe thinking Angelo was cheating on him only to find out he wasn’t and that Dimmy, Angelo’s brother was making plans with him to move in. To Clay introducing Hunter to his brother Jayden and his boyfriend Bryan only to find out that Bryan was untrustworthy so Jayden breaks up with him. Before the party, Hunter sends Clay on a treasure hunt filled with small gifts along the way that ends at home where he is to get ready for their date. A limo whisks Clay away toward his destination that he has no clue about. He is blindfolded then taken to Arthur’s house where Hunter is waiting to propose and marry him.

It was a fantastic read with a lot of hot sex added to the mix.

Review: This was a cute story. Lots of humor in it. I loved it.

Case and Mitchell had been friends for a very long time, but Mitchell had always wanted more. Because Case wouldn’t know anything unless someone hit him upside the head, it would seem. Camping trip was actually a couple’s retreat. Fake relationship turns to love. It had such a cute story line and I can actually see myself reading this every Valentine’s Day. The characters are funny, sexy, compassionate, and not a couple till Mitchell tells him what he wants.

I loved it.

Review: This is a really cute story and I absolutely loved it. It had just the right amount of humor to it.

Lawson takes one look at Peru and he knew he wanted this beautiful young man. He realized that he was at least seven years older than Peru and had many family members who loved him, as did he. Each was hiding something from each other, but with the help of Peru’s family, everything would work out just fine. I laughed throughout the story and got a bit misty eyed also. I can see myself reading this every Valentine’s Day.

Blurb: When an unexpected package is delivered on December 14th, Martin is more than a little intrigued by the contents—especially as they’re from his boyfriend, Dennis, and come with instructions to wear them when they go to dinner with Dennis’ parents the following night.

And that’s only the beginning of Dennis’ suggestive gifts.

Review: Martin is surprised to receive some unexpected gifts from his lover, Dennis, on the run up to Christmas, but he throws himself into the spirit of the gifts. Each day brings a new gift with instructions, the gifts become more suggestive, and Martin gets a Christmas to remember.

This is a cute little story that brings a new meaning to the 12 Days of Christmas with Dennis’ very erotic twist. Martin is slightly more reserved than his cross-dressing lover Dennis is but he gets into the spirit when Dennis sends him sexy gifts. With a variety of gifts from a condom in a jockstrap to five gold rings *wiggles eyebrows* they have some interesting nights out but when Dennis springs the final surprise it just might be more than Martin can handle.

This is a great little story that has snippets of Dennis’ and Martin’s lives on the run-up to Christmas, although we don’t get to know these guys well we do see enough to know that they have a great relationship and that Dennis loves slinky underwear and Martin is slightly more reserved. We see some great reactions to Dennis’ gifts, which have you grinning like a fool, and the last night of gift giving is a pure blast. Although we never see, any sex scenes we are left in no doubt that the gifts are being put to good use.

I recommend this to those who love cute couples, surprising lovers, some fun and games and a fun ending.

Blurb: One snowy evening, wounded WWI veteran Jasper Pritchard arrives at Valentine Nugent’s sweet shop with an unusual request. Review: The soldier and the candy man… It does have a ring to it doesn’t it?

Here we have a very sweet and (I don’t believe I’ll say this) cute story. Early twentieth century and Eve of Valentine’s Day find Jasper opening the door to the sweets shop. He’s there on a bequest from his dear and very much dead aunt. Find the writer of some quite indiscreet letters and return them to him. It is quite a feat for Jasper as his flirt with war has left him with numerous scars, but he braves it for his dear aunt. Little did he know that he’d find a treasure in the candy shop.

Valentine has forever wanted to find someone sweet to share his life with as much as they could in the times they lived. A fast romp in the shadows doesn’t do it for him as much as the dream of a man permanently in his life, a man to share his heart as well as his desires. When Jasper enters his store Valentine is fascinated with the mystery of (discretely) finding the writer of those letters with only clue a heart-shaped box with a non-valentine paining on it, but as the evening moves on he finds Jasper just as fascinating and an incredible longing to touch and caress the man overwhelms him. But the scars that blemish Jasper’s body are quite gruesome. Will the man let himself be comforted, and will Valentine manage to see under the scars and into the man himself?

As I said this story is awfully cute, but it is also so much more. I have a thing for broken men, yet Jasper is not all that broken, merely trapped in a disfigured body, something that while bothers him he doesn’t let drag him under its poisonous spell. And as for Valentine, oh man, he was a real candy man. Joyous, sweet, smiling, and caring, he was the perfect half for Jasper. When those two came together frankly I feared there would be some sort of awkwardness, but the author only gifted us with sensuality that overwhelmed everything else.

I liked the mystery of the story as well. What a lovely story that ended up to be. Not sure how credible it is, but I didn’t care one bit while reading it, it made the story even sweeter and the love it was all wrapped up into in the end was perfect for a story in Saint Valentine’s spirit.

For me this is a story for the romantic at heart and if that’s what you’re looking for your holiday read, I don’t hesitate to recommend this at all.

Review: Most romance stories that I read don’t come off as real life or even close to it. This story actually made me sad when I read it. To love someone at first sight but to be tied to someone else. I have always hated a person who cheated and hid things from another, always thinking that they get what they deserve in the end. However, this story makes you forget that, well parts of it.

Hayden is lost and stranded when his car crashes into a wall of some sort. It is thirteen below zero and he has no idea of what to do, but to his luck, a cop shows up. Dylan knew he wanted to kiss this man from the start, wanted him for all time. The only problem was Hayden was married to a woman and lived in a different state. Two hot nights full of sex, passion and fire was all they thought they would get. Then they got on with their lives, till twelve years later.

This story was well written with characters who had strengths and weaknesses that they mix together. However, I just couldn’t get into it, maybe because Hayden was leading a double life, where Dylan gets hurt. This story makes me wonder why someone hides themselves so easy just because it isn’t easy to be another way. To betray and hurt to people you love just isn’t my way of life. It was a good story, just not one for me.

But his dad is sick, and wants Jack’s famous hollandaise sauce for holiday breakfasts. When Jack finds out his old flame Kent is in town for Christmas, too, he thinks things can’t get much worse. Can Kent convince him Christmas miracles can happen?

Review:  Already unhappy at coming home, with its bad memories as well as his father’s advancing Alzheimer’s, Jack thinks things can’t get any worse when he bumps into his old flame Kent. To add insult to injury, even after ten years, Kent is as beautiful as ever.

They arrange a get together to give Jack a break from being at his parent’s home, and quickly find that the spark between them is still there. In fact, it never went away. They make love as if they’ve never been apart.

Now that they’re older and wiser, they’re less likely to end up in a fistfight if the going gets tough. They even find they both live in Austin. Perfect.

This is a nicely crafted piece with a second chance at love and happiness for the guys.

Blurb:  Florian Donati has an almost childlike innocence in the body of a god. Unaware of his charms, he enjoys his life, working in his family’s drycleaning business in Prohibition-era Chicago. He loves his job, loves singing Italian opera, and loves the people in his life, including his friend Loria and the notorious gangster Alphonse Capone. Still, he dreams of having adventures and finding love.

Nick Giannakopoulos is a young Greek immigrant who’s come to America to live with his uncle’s family, working with his cousin in the family pharmacy. There are many things he’d love to do, including going to a party in a speakeasy that he and his cousin Milo have been invited to. But it’s on Christmas Eve, so family obligations preclude their going — until Fate intervenes, and Nick and Florian end up at the same speakeasy in Romeoville and find themselves sitting at the same table.

Is instant attraction a basis for a long-term relationship? Or is this just a passing Christmas fancy? Previously published by Silver Publishing.

Review:  A romantic first time love story.

This is a fairly short Christmas read, with the added interest of a peek at the Prohibition era.

Florian likes singing opera, and works in his family’s dry cleaning business. Nick works in the family pharmacy. They also share a similar hero-worship for the gangsters of the day, especially Al Capone. The fates conspire to bring the young men together in a speakeasy on Christmas Eve. Nick is instantly smitten with the gorgeous Florian, and Florian equally with the handsome Nick. On the cusp of sharing a public kiss, the speakeasy is raided. Staying the night at the house of a friend, the two young men find first love together.

It’s a beautifully romantic tale. Nick worries that he will lose Florian just as they’ve met. Florian has no such doubts and plans their happy ever after. I hope if the author writes any more about this gorgeous couple, they get it.

If you like first love, romance and Christmas reads, this is for you.

Review: Grey and Mica are smokin’ hot! What more need I say.   This is a fabulous story of two men in love and in the early stages of a relationship. Grey is not used to being out where Mica is.  Grey has reasons why he doesn’t decorate and go all out on Christmas himself but throws himself in covering shifts for others and volunteering. Grey is such a wonderful character, even his faults are sweet.  Mica also is a fabulous character though he and Grey are a little different they blend well and let’s say when they get together and they do every chance they get they set the pages on fire. (Yes, I had to toss in a pun) There are a few more interesting characters in this story and I think I can see some more stories coming soon or at least I hope so

This is such a great story for the times you just want to snuggle up with a hot, sweet sexy read. This is definitely perfect for one of those hot cocoa nights.

If you like sweet generous men; hot, sexy romance; Christmas stories, Santa, and of course hot firefighters this is for you!

Blurb: ATF agent Peter Lomax isn’t a hearts and flowers kind of guy, but he can be possessive, and it caused problems until Carver Fleming. Carver may be part of the art world, but he gets Peter, loves belonging to the man, and Peter treasures the way Carver understands them together.

Carver wants to make the relationship last forever, but he’ll have to leave their life in Chicago to take care of the family he loves. Review: Pete adores his boyfriend Carver, he wants to spend his life with the man and they are perfectly happy together, but then Carver drops a bomb and Pete has choices to make; lose the man he loves for the life he currently has or give up his life to be with the man he loves. Carver loves everything about Pete and wants to spend his life with him, but Carver has to go home to the small town he grew up in to help his mother and father. Not wanting to give Pete up he drops the bomb on Pete at the last-minute and begs him to just give him a chance to show Pete how great their life could be in Colt, Kentucky.

Ohhhh, now this is a tense romance where everything seems peachy, until a bombshell is dropped that has angst seeping into the relationship. Pete and Carver met at a gallery and it was lust at first sight. It rapidly evolved into a committed loving relationship and then Carver gets news that he doesn’t share until they are on the way to Carver’s parents for the holidays. Pete is understandably pissed and feels like Carver cut him out of an important decision and his life. Carver wanted to present a fait accompli, a done deal with only Pete’s agreement needed, but Pete isn’t happy with Carver.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and like the fact that even though he wasn’t happy Pete still gave Carver’s hometown a chance. Carver was so desperate to keep Pete that he hid that Carver had to move back to his parents. While the decision was born out of love, it was still wrong for him to have excluded Pete. Especially, as it affected Pete as well. Pete is a sweetheart, he fits perfectly with Carver’s hometown and is desperate not to lose Carver. He weighs everything before he makes a decision and he never stops loving Carver even for a second. No matter how pissed he is at him.

These two men are a romance made in heaven. They fit together beautifully and love each other fiercely. When life interferes its Pete who has to make the hard choices. Because, to a son who loves his parents, Carver doesn’t have a choice. Carver’s idea of dropping everything on Pete at the last-minute works, because Pete has to give the small town a chance. Although you feel pissed on Pete’s behalf, you do understand why Carver did it. Carver wants Pete and he will do anything to keep him.

This story is another feather in Mary Calmes’ hat. She has that special touch with her feel good stories and this is another one that will leave you blissfully happy.

I recommend this to those who love Christmas stories, love that overcomes any obstacle, hot sexy men who are blissfully happy, a touch of angst and a very happy Christmas ending.

Review: So this book begins right after a specific scene in Christmas Cole.  The pairing of the two stories is great and maybe because written in 2010, there is no connection of the linkage between both stories except that they probably appeared together in an anthology.  In this story, Harry learns that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and sometimes what you’ve wanted you’ve always had with you.  Oh Lord, doesn’t that sound almost like a line from The Wizard of Oz. Kind of fitting wouldn’t you say?

Through the power of some Christmas magic, Harry is transformed from an Ugly Ducking into a beautiful swan and then realizes that all people see of him is his gorgeous outside but nobody is interested in getting to know his insides. The thing he craves – human connection – is the one thing he cannot seem to get. So he then goes back to the one person who always loved and accepted him and he realizes that just maybe he can really have it all. The reader will love Cody, Harry’s best friend.  All of us wish we had a friend this nice, considerate and special. Thankfully, for Harry there’s more elfin magic afoot and someone else has also made a Christmas wish, which means Harry, will be able to get his happy ending after all.

This is a wonderful cup of Christmas complete with the knowledge that no matter what you might think of yourself, there’s probably somebody who thinks you are perfect and if you give yourself half a chance, you’ll find out that you are perfect just as you are and better yet, you are perfect for each other.

Snuggle up with the eggnog and get ready to smile.  This is a cute little story to revisit.  Read Christmas Cole first and then Christmas Wish, they’ll both put your in a warm holiday spirit.

Review: Clay and Noah meet at a party. There is instant attraction between these two men who do not do one-night stands.  Their lovemaking is epic for both of them, but Clay feeling out of his ken does a runner much to Noah’s annoyance.   Noah confronts Clay about his behaviour and then retreats to his office to pout, as one is wont to do when one is upset.  By the time Noah realizes that he would have behaved similarly to Clay in the circumstances, Clay has already come to him to apologize for his behaviour.  He brings his favourite holiday food of Gingerbread cookies as his peace-offering.

Sometimes a one-night stand can turn into something so much more when it’s wrapped in the guise of the Christmas holiday spirit. Two very nice men who meet and hit it off. Great little read.

Nick is a very unhappy man—he’s achieved his professional goals only to find the rest of his life bleak and empty. That’s when he found Kit.

At first, Nick is pretty sure rescuing Kit was a big mistake. Kit’s personality is just too, well, effervescent. But as the miles go by, Kit begins to bring light to his dark heart. It might even be bright enough to illuminate a Christmas miracle.

Review: Nick is a douche when you first meet him and most people would have written him off altogether, but for whatever reason he’s kindly towards Kit and so they embark upon an unlikely road trip, which will lead Nick into spending time in Kits’ infectious presence. Kit’s inability to curse or be mean is representative of the true meaning of Christmas and what Kit does for Nick is in every way what we expect to see in a Christmas miracle. Nick is finally able to see that there is more to life than he first thought and that he must have the courage to not only save himself but to reach out and capture happiness when it is facing him.

Kit is able to see the Nick that Nick himself is not able to see. When Kit gives Nick his Christmas gifts, Nick is finally able to see himself in a way he’d never seen himself before and it is that single act of kindness and compassion which will change the trajectory of both their lives.

This is a lovely and heart-warming story about the holidays and the true meaning of Christmas, complete with the Christmas miracle that Kit will give to Nick.

Blurb:  Javier Torres was a sweet, plump, and very unpopular child. But over the years, he turned himself into a gorgeous gym god. The problem is he’s also become an egotistical snob. But one day his arrogance pisses off the wrong little old lady, and he wakes up to find that, like the Prince in Beauty and the Beast, he’s been transformed into something from his personal nightmares. Javier has nowhere to go but back home, where to his surprise. He is greeted with open arms, not just by the family he remembers, but also by his new brother-in-law, Cole. Cole suspects there might be a pretty heart to go with the pretty face locked inside that new body, but has Javier learned enough to earn Cole—instead of coal—for Christmas?

Review: So what we have here is a slightly altered version of Beauty and the Beast, or better yet, Beauty and the Beast meets A Christmas Carol. And for a community that is youth and beauty obsessed, this is certainly apropos.  This is about what happens when you allow the outside to overshadow the inside.  The moral of the story is that it’s all good and well to try to get the outside to look pretty, but at what cost will you do this?  Are you willing to sell your soul and self-respect?  What does it say when people only like the package, but don’t really know what is really inside the package or even care about the package’s contents.

This is a very short, spicy tale of Christmas so it moves along quickly but without feeling overly rushed. The characters are nicely drawn and you have clear pictures of everyone, even the bit players who are Javier’s family. They add colour and dimension and help to make the story even more believable and relatable. Once Cole enters the picture, Javier will learn that being beautiful on the inside is just if not more important than external beauty.  He will find that the people who love you will always love you and not care about things like looks or money. Most of all he will learn the importance of love and how important it is to love and be loved. What better Christmas message could there be?

So you have a tale of goodwill and rebirth all with a sprinkling of some lovely fairy, or maybe elves’ dust along with a gust of wind from the North Pole. A lovely little Christmas story that helps us remember the important things at this time of the year.  Very charming!

Review: Now, I normally love longer stories, but this short story just had me with the first paragraph.

It is such a cute story with wonderful characters. Three years since they had seen each other and there was regret that they hadn’t pursued each other. Now they are back in the same hometown and there is so much heat when they look at each other that you can feel it. Grant is just as sweet and loving as you would wish a man would be and the same can be said about Wyatt. There are feelings there and they just burn hotter each day. The sex between them is so hot and sexy that you just fan yourself when you read it. Home for the holidays takes on a new meaning now. To be able to have that second chance you know you had wished for, you would do anything to keep your hands on it.

I do hope that there is a sequel to this story so that you can hear more about their lives together. I am so glad to have had a chance to read this story and would make it one that I would read repeatedly, especially during the holidays.

Gigi’s Review – 4Hearts.

I’m all for going home and reuniting with the would have been crush! Especially when he’s a big, hunky, sexy farmer! This isanother sweet Christmas tale of boy-mets-boy, nearly falls, then goes off to school and when he returns the flames burn hotter! Fairly predictable, not a lot of road blocks, a couple cute first dates, but sweet nontheless.

Blurb: At age 18, Shiloh Raben is tired. He no longer has the energy to deal with mean classmates, inner doubt, and fear of familial rejection, so he takes a razor to his wrist. When he wakes up in the hospital, Shiloh meets Travis Kahn, the EMT who saved him and didn’t leave his side.

Travis is handsome, smart, and funny—the type of guy Shiloh would never be brave enough to approach. But his near-death experience has an unusual side effect: the life that flashed before his eyes wasn’t the one he had already lived, but rather the one he could live. With visions of a future by Travis’s side, will Shiloh find the strength to confront his fears and build a life worth fighting for?

Review: Shiloh is tired of being bullied, he is tired of hiding himself, and he is scared of how his parents will react if he tells them he is gay; so he takes the only option he thinks is open to him. When Shiloh’s life flashes through his mind it isn’t his past but a future that he has not lived yet, a future with a man who will be his whole world. When Shiloh awakens in the hospital with the EMT who saved him by his side, the future vision of himself and the EMT are fixed firmly in his mind. Travis is an EMT and he has great plans for the future, when he saves Shiloh he discovers those plans now include the cute patient who knows more about him than he should.

There are so many words that I would like to utter but they mainly consist of Ohhhh Ahhhh sweet and cute, and *sigh* soooo romantic. We are given a true treat with this wonderful holiday story that shows the despair of a young man who feels he doesn’t have anything to cling to. It then takes us on a journey to a possible future that he would miss out on and then we are treated to a sweet ending when the course of the future is changed with Shiloh’s knowledge and his actions. The love that is discovered first in the future and then in the present is incredibly sweet but also passionate, a meeting of soul mates who are meant to be whether in the future or in the present.

Shiloh and Travis are a couple that we see in the future, a developing love when they are older that is struck with tragedy, and in the present, a new love as young men that has hope. The first half of the story is with Shiloh at 36 which then flicks back to Shiloh at 18, in both parts we are treated to a wonderful relationship between Shiloh and Travis, and both characters are wonderful giving us a brilliant story that both delights and has hints of sadness.

Ah, there are so many wonderful and bittersweet moments in this story but the lingering thoughts that stay with me was how everything was altered by Shiloh’s very first action. Without Shiloh’s first desperate actions we would never have seen the future that should be, Shiloh would never have met Travis when he did in the present and would never have changed Travis’ habit to alter the eventual outcome. Puzzled? Well, you won’t be when you read the story and discover that maybe, just maybe, Shiloh’s actions changed both their futures for the better.

I recommend this to those who love stories of a love that was meant to be, incredible characters, a story that draws out your emotions with ease and a story that brings family together.

That’s how Celyn finds him, stumbling blindly through the snow, and Celyn takes Gunnar home to a castle of faery. A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2013 Advent Calendar package “Heartwarming.”

Review: As enticing as the main idea for this story was I found it somewhat detached.

Here we have Gunnar, being different from all the races known to mankind, raised by a loving family that adopted him when he was little. He grows up to be really content though and chasing a career as an accountant. After the company Christmas party though Gunnar walks his way home only to be lost in a strange snowstorm and find himself in an altogether different realm where elves and dark elves exist and he is supposed to be one of the former.

Okay, so honestly, if I found myself lost in a strange place from one moment to the other and weird people come get me calling me elf, I’d have panicked. No matter how, no matter what, I would not have Gunnar’s reaction. He seemed to take it all in stride and the only time he panicked was when he saw the Yule Cat, and even that was detached from emotions, never making it down to me (the reader).
I don’t know what to make of this story really. Fantasy-wise it was fun, a world I’d love to know and read about. The core of the story though was so bland. The romance itself was lukewarm at best. I mean come on, you have an Elf and a Dark Elf, the very combination entices you to put things on fire let everything burn to ashes, yet it was not. As if it was a matter of course that Gunnar and Celyn would get together and be good for each other. Even the part where they were supposed to be together and the passion, the lust, the wanting, the falling for, everything were skipped making me think what was the point of even writing the story in first place. Was it only the journey from one real to the other? But then again the journey was that much of a shocker what with all the hints we got from the beginning of the story, so it came as a matter of course too.

I don’t know, this story had the potential to be awesome but wasn’t, it had the potential to be steamy hot and sensual as hell but it wasn’t, it had the potential to be dramatic and affect you with suspense but that was seriously lacking, so in the end for me it was just another read will lots of potential.
