Won’t Feel A Thing

(St. Cross 01)
by

C.F. White

It takes more than a doctor to mend a broken heart.

Ollie Warne is fresh out of nursing school and working his dream job as a pediatric cardiology nurse at St. Cross Children’s Hospital. Wanting to start the year fresh from personal heartache and his track record of falling for the wrong man, Ollie’s New Year’s resolution is to rid himself of emotional baggage and live a life of carefree liaisons.

But before the resolution can even begin, Ollie is called to care for eight-year-old Daisy Monroe, who’s struggling after heart surgery. Her father, Jacob Monroe, never leaves her side, apart from the times her mother comes to visit.

The tempestuous and somewhat estranged relationship of her parents is cause for concern enough, but the father’s brooding nature has Ollie investing far more time than usual in his Room One patient. Striking up a friendship of sneaking takeaways into the ward, card playing until dawn and the occasional breaking up of domestic fights, Ollie finds himself drawn to Jacob and becomes a friendly ear for the man who’s harboring more guilt and past demons than even Ollie, which is saying something.

The growing attraction makes it hard for Ollie to keep his distance, though he has to—not only do the ethics of his profession demand it, but Ollie is still somewhat involved with another man. One who has a huge stake in Ollie’s life, both personal and professional.

Ollie is risking more than just his job by getting involved with a patient’s father—much more even than the success of his New Year’s resolution, something that was supposed to ensure that, this time, he won’t feel a thing.

Review: Rowan gets his dream job at an exclusive BDSM retreat where he is able to put his submissive side to good use helping dominants. Lorcan decides on a long retreat after selling his business.

When Rowan and Lorcan meet the pages do not seem big enough to contain the sparks and passion between these two as they get to know each other better.

I liked the atmosphere of the story and the struggles that the characters are going through as they traverse their new lives. The actual retreat was breathtaking and very isolated. I did notice that this series seems similar to Tales From the edge which was a great series.

Overall this story was a beautiful start to the series. Awesome read.

What Felix didn’t count on was meeting a man who turned his world around and brought something other than art to focus for him. Tse Soto is intriguing, passionate, and open in ways Felix quickly comes to appreciate.

But Felix’s past isn’t what he believed it to be, and what he learns about it could be more than he can handle.

Review: Felix and Tse were great characters. I loved these two men together. Their strengths and weaknesses added a delightful spin on the story as it progressed. Felix’s past comes back to haunt him and Tse is there to help along the way.

The mystery aspect of the story was well written and intriguing to read as it unfolded. I have enjoyed this series about hunky guys in calendar shoot where things do not go as planned and sometimes dangerous situations arise. It was interesting as how each man handled said situations.

Fantastic read.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Aliens have landed on Earth over a thousand years ago and were the ones that created the fable of vampires. Stronger, faster, and of course the drinking of blood is just a bit of what the guys have going for them. I should say they crashed instead of just landed on it, but then again newbies shouldn’t be trusted with something so very much needed as navigation. Alex and his men were now stuck on this blasted planet and needed to work around it. To bad half his crew didn’t agree and seperated. So you have a group that is good and a group that is bad, so very overused I would say.

Quinn had finally came out to his parents and what did his honesty get him, a boot out of his home. He needed food, a place to stay so being a gogo dancer is looking better each time he thinks about it. All looks good till the owner decides he wants him. Which puts him into the site of well you can guess.

First off this book was just way to long to stick with it. To much added story that was not needed. The characters were hard to connect with, well with the exception of our Quinn and Mackie. It starts off like you are in the middle of the story instead of the beginning which didn’t really do it any favor. It took longer to get involved into the story and by the ending I had been wishing I stopped reading. The book was pretty much like so many others out there that there was no fresh idea to it. Aliens who are pretty much vampires who crashed landed in Romania and well it just didn’t work for me.

Then there was the whole hive way of thinking and being led by a queen, no thanks just sounded like a bunch of worker bees. Now the story did have a good plot going on, and the world was different, but it bombed on me with all the extra added crap put into it. I think had it started out a bit different and not coming into feeling like I came into the middle would have been a better deal.

So for this book and possibly the rest of the series, it is not for me. However I will wait to see if book two gets better before totally giving in. Less of the dark tone and more fun is needed.

Blurb: No. Eating. Pixies.

At the annual Global Lijun Alliance conference in Tokyo, Tally Bastille makes the first impulsive decision of his life. Others perceive his uktena—the enormous legendary serpent that’s his dual-spirit—as a threat, which makes him all too aware that he frightens fellow lijun. But an encounter with a passionate, obviously not-straight otter lijun one evening convinces Tally that he’s found his Em’halafi, his destined match. Tally is determined to barrel through all obstacles to make the match happen, including the otter’s conservative, traditional family.

Trained as a Satislit—a bride-son—Haru Tanaka chafes at the strict boundaries set around their life. They rebel against their clan’s constant attempts to force an arranged match and wish desperately for someone who will love them. At the conference, Haru is horrified to learn their family has accepted an offer for them, one too lucrative for the clan to refuse. Not only has the Urusar sold Haru to a stranger, but the lijun is also a giant snake and one who believes in the tired old superstitions regarding Em’halafi. Threatened with banishment if they refuse, Haru has no choice but to marry the wealthy American serpent.

Back in Tally’s home in Wisconsin, Haru and Tally must navigate both the widening gulf between them as they realize how much they’ve misunderstood about each other, and the tricky politics of the lijun clan Tally leads. Murder, intrigue and increasing hostility threaten to tear apart the little town of Wadiswan and the arranged marriage they’ve barely managed to begin.

Review: I really wanted to love this story by the time I finished it. I mean there’s romance?, suspense, murder a whole cast of characters that added depth to the story. However, it Haru’s attitude toward Tally that made me take a step back. I know it’s an arranged marriage but if Haru didn’t want it why didn’t he say anything before the wedding? Instead all he does is complain and basically put Tally down after the wedding night. That really made me angry on Tally’s behalf.

I loved the culture throughout the story. It was fascinating to read about the traditions. Tally was sweet and caring and I so wanted him to be happy. Aside from Haru’s attitude problem I really enjoyed everything else about the book.

I was happy to follow Tally around as he traversed through a world where his mate doesn’t want him at first only to be confounded when murder enters the picture. I felt really bad for Tally in the situation he found himself in.

All the different characters were exciting to read about and what role they each played to bring this story to life.

Great read.

Review: Illias and his boyfriend Terry are part of the calendar shoot when Illias discovers Terry is only with him for his connections. Needless to say Illias and terry part ways. During a call to a doctor’s office Illias meets Dr. Torres and the sparks fly. But Illias is unsure due to the relationship he just got out of.

I loved that Torres was patient and caring with Illias considering his fears. The two seemed made for each other in all ways. Another great addition to the calendar men series.

Review: After witnessing the death of hismother Niel is on the run. He has no clue who he can trust but when Mal is thrust into the picture he feels a connection and trusts the man to keep him safe. Mal has been happy with his existence. Meeting Niel has thrown a curve ball in his world but he does what he can for the man.

Trying to stay safe while at the same time trying to get a feel for each other Niel and Mal struggle.

It’s to be expected given the circumstances. I liked the story and the overall feel of it. The danger element was gripping. Mal and Niel’s backstory were gripping.

Although there were a few unanswered questions I still enjoyed the story. Mystery, suspense, danger and romance are in abundance in this book.

Review: A great addition to the series with Will and Baz in the middle of a murder mystery as well as the complication in Will’s life. Baz for his part is smart and funny and seemed to be Wills equal.

The overall feel of the story has an intriguing and relaxed atmosphere at times to culminate the mystery in it’s depths as well as the relationship nature of the characters. I liked this story with it’s mystery, humor and romance. You can never go wrong with that combination.

Fantastic addition.

I loved this couple. They had their sexy times as well as serious moments as well. The investigation had great details that I highly enjoyed reading. This series just keeps getting better and better with each book.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fantastic read.

Blurb: One cool cat is about to discover just how hot love can be.

Darin Winger is beginning to regret ever volunteering to be a model for the charity calendar. There’s already been an attack on all the people working on the photo shoot, which resulted in a nasty case of food poisoning for Darin and others. Then there was the fire at Marco’s place, which had resulted in the photographer being injured. To what extent, Darin doesn’t know, but now the photo shoot is back on, and Marco’s daughter Perry is in charge of everything.

Which would be fine, except the weather causes delays, people cause delays, almost everything causes delays—and Darin is ready to return to his regularly scheduled life as a nurse and dog shifter. If one more thing goes wrong…

The last straw might be the arrival of an uptight feline shifter named Arturo Casarez, who demands that Perry move the photo shoot off the grounds of the museum.

Except there’s something about Arturo that calls to Darin. Now he’ll have to convince Arturo to give him a chance.

Review: With one delay after another everyone is wondering whether or not the photo shoot will be completed. Darin is one such person. He is Mr. February and wants to get back to his life as soon as possible but with the way things are going it looks like it won’t be soon enough for tastes.

Arturo is the curator of the museum where the photo shoot is taking place for this particular month. But he is not amused when the models are prancing around in next to nothing with school children present and so offers to move the shoot to his land instead. Now the fun can begin.

Darin and Arturo are shifters of the canine and feline variety. Who says cats and dogs can not get along. These two certainly heat things up in this story. I liked this book better than the first which is weird because I usually love all Bailey Bradford’s books. But then again even I have off days when reviewing.

Highly recommended.

Blurb: Toby and Damon’s whirlwind romance continues, but can they find a balance between love and work? Do they even want to?

Toby can scarcely believe that his life has changed so much in less than two weeks, but it has. His predictable little life has gone from routine to sexually adventurous in a matter of days. And to be honest, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Damon’s just as into Toby, more interested in exploring with his new lover than spending all his time at the bar. Luckily things are running fairly smoothly there with his hand only occasionally needed on the rudder.

Their idyllic love affair has a few bumps to withstand, though, in the form of an intruder with a gun. Can Toby and Damon survive what happens next?

Review: Damon and Toby are back in this sequel as they continue to get to know one another. Toby is still in shock about his relationship with Damon while Damon is spending less time at work and more time with Toby.

More sexy explorations abound as Toby and Damon explore each other further in the bedroom and where ever else the need them. Hot and sexy read.

Great story.

Blurb: Sometimes unpredictable is exactly what’s needed, but can Corner Pub owner Damon convince shy Thursday night regular Toby of that?

Damon loves his life—his bar, his employees and his beer. He especially loves Thursdays. That’s when the mysterious little red-head dances into his bar, drinks two honey wheat brews, and flits right back out.

Toby’s comfortable. He has a good job, great friends, and he gets paid to do what he loves—sculpt. His life is great, if a little predictable. And if he secretly wears a plug to Corner Pub every Thursday, well…that’s nobody’s business but his.

But when Toby meets Damon, his predictable little life flies right out the window. Damon shows him the big, wide world of the Dom/sub lifestyle, plugs and piercings, and teaches him that maybe, unpredictable is exactly what Toby needed all along.

Review: This book has mostly sex in it and some humorous scenes as well. By the end of the book I felt as though Toby was still confused so I was confused as to why he was in a relationship with a Dom.

Never the less it was an entertaining read as I watched Toby stutter and seem to do whatever Damon tells him to do.

After reading I’m wondering about Toby and whether he was actually ready for sex and a relationship all at the same time.

Good read.

Blurb: There’s no sense in pussy-footing around when it comes to love.

Albert E. Washington is a nerd and proud of it. He’s a cool cat when he shifts, but for the most part, he’s just a guy who sometimes tapes his glasses together and enjoys quality clothing like bowties and suspenders. When his boss has him acting as an errand boy, Albert finds himself in the middle of a sexy calendar photo shoot. It’s a little too much for him to process and he ends up embarrassing himself.

Gregg is Mr. January—or he will be if the photo shoot ever gets going. Injuring his back when he trips on the set isn’t going to speed things up. The appearance of a seriously hot guy who flips the switch on Gregg’s geeky-man button makes a bad day great. Now, if Gregg can just get Albert to agree to a date, if he doesn’t scare Albert off, if Albert will just pick up on the flirtatious things Gregg says…

That’s a lot of ifs, but Gregg isn’t intimidated by them. He knows his dream man when he meets him. Now all Gregg has to do is survive the photo shoot and convince Albert to give him, and love, a chance.

Review: If your looking for a series similar to the southwestern shifters this is not it. I was a little confused by the shifter aspect as it seemed more a contemporary read to me. Never the less it is a hot story about geeky Albert who meets hunky Gregg on calendar photo shoot.

Sparks fly and we see how the relationship blossoms step by step. There is a mystery that seems to affect most of the models and not in a good way. I really love this authors works but I’m unsure how to feel about this one.

As I said this felt more contemporary to me with a lot of hot sex between two men who are looking for love.

Great read.
