The Evolution of Love
(World of Love 29: Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands)
by
Philip William Stover
When a charming but misguided account manager gets stuck on a cruise to the Galapagos Islands with his hunky zoologist ex, he might rediscover his true passion—in and out of the bedroom.
After art school, Mike Davis gave up on his dream in favor of a stable job. But when he gets an opportunity to teach wealthy travelers how to paint stunning sunsets, it seems like the perfect break. Until he finds out he’ll be sharing a suite with his ex, charismatic Benton Aldridge—a British scientist cuter than the baby animals he studies. Mike makes it clear he has no intention of getting back together with Benton, but sharing a suite makes it almost impossible keep his distance.
As they climb over volcanic peaks and swim with manatees through sparkling jade-colored water, can they also heal past wounds and take the next step in the evolution of love?
Blurb: Tom has always been steady and predictable—a formula he’s sure will lead him to success in his career. When his method fails him and he loses his job, he throws caution to the wind for the first time in his life and books a European holiday.
Maybe Tom shouldn’t be surprised that Cupid’s arrow finds him in one of the most romantic cities in the world: Venice, Italy. When he encounters Giovanni working in the family pizzeria, it’s lust at first sight. Their time together touring the city is so magical it feels like a dream. But Tom is shy while Giovanni is charming and flirtatious. Tom has a newfound freedom with his unemployment, while family burdens weigh heavily on Giovanni. Add culture differences and miscommunication into the mix, and their brief romance might fade as quickly as the beautiful dream it resembles.
Review: I’ve been holding off writing this review because I’m really not sure what to say. Luca Domani is a new author to me and for the most part I did enjoy the experience. The story was sweet, and the romance was on point. However, I can’t say that I was entirely grabbed by the story, which is what has left me confused. Perhaps its because me being a very practical person isn’t happy with a happily ever after without being told the nitty gritty details?
Because of this, this is going to be quite a short review. I have nothing that I want to specifically praise or complain about. The MCs are wonderful and relatable, although due to length we don’t really get to go deep into their psyches. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two men as well, that too was relatable. There was no specific reason for me to suspend my disbelief, although the subject of visas and working visas, etc. did come to mind because practical me has to over think everything, even in a romantic fiction. All I can say for sure is that this is a sweet romance is one of the romantic cities in the world. It is something that could be the subject of any number of romantic comedies and dramas.
The story starts with Tom, the titular American. He has always done the right thing, he had been studious with his studies and has been steadfast and reliable to build a successful career. However, when he loses his job, he comes to the stunning realisation (at least for him and his situation) that his career success and failure isn’t just down to him doing his best and doing his job properly. And so he does something that he never did before, he decides it is time for him the seize the day and goes on a European holiday, knowing that he had to return home to get his life back on track after he has his fun.
While in Venice he meets Giovanni. He’s a local and works in his family’s restaurant. The two of them have instant chemistry and quickly find a physical connection that is set to become a lot more with little effort. The challenge for these guys is that Tom is from America and Giovanni from Italy. Distance relationships are difficult. But before they can think about that part, there are also culture differences and even some miscommunication. Miscommunication storylines sometimes, well often, annoy me, but I will admit with the cultural and language differences it works well in this novella.

Three Months To Forever
(World of Love 19: China – Hong Kong)
by
Hudsonn Lin
Ben is looking for an adventure when he accepts a temporary assignment in Hong Kong, but he never anticipated how his life might change when he meets a sophisticated older man named Sai. Their initial attraction is sizzling and soon grows into more as Sai takes Ben on a tour of the city’s famous landmarks and introduces him to the local cuisine. Sai stimulates Ben’s intellect and curiosity, and for jaded corporate lawyer Sai, Ben’s innocent eagerness is a breath of fresh air. It would be so easy to fall in love….
But nothing is that simple. Sai’s job forces him to do things that violate his morals, and his relationship with his family is a major obstacle to any lasting relationship with Ben. Back in Toronto, Ben’s father is ill, and can he really leave behind his home for a man he’s only known for a short time? With the clock ticking, they must decide whether to risk it all and turn three months into forever.
Blurb: Neither of them wants to fall in love, but getting exactly what they don’t want might be the best thing to ever happen to them.
Mark hopes his boredom with his current job will be alleviated by a short stint in Basel, Switzerland. When he meets Steffen, who struck out on his own from an old-money family to establish an IT firm, Mark expects some fun, great sex, and a clean break when his job is done. The arrangement is perfect for Steffen, who has been content with casual after a betrayal—and has a taste for British men after attending university in the UK. But as they explore the city’s rich history and traditions, Mark begins to see Steffen as much more than a tour guide with benefits. If he isn’t careful, the trip meant to break the lull in his career might end up breaking his heart instead….
World of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the globe.
Review: Mark is working in Basel for three months and while his work is challenging but good his home life is a bit bleak, when he meets Steffen his social life looks up but will he be able to let go when he returns to England. Steffen isn’t looking for anything permanent, meeting Mark has him hoping for a short fling but with Mark’s departure date looming before them Steffen hopes that Basel and himself have wormed their way into Mark’s heart.
Rebecca Cohen has woven a tale that brings the heritage of a city to life with her wonderful descriptions.
Mark and Steffen are two men just looking for company, their relationship starts out as work acquaintances but rapidly becomes more as they seek hot sex and friendship. They become close as Steffen shows Mark the delights of Basel, but while they both know that Mark’s time in Basel is limited they can’t help but wish for more.
I must say that I found it hard to stay connected with the story, while I loved discovering Basel I thought that for the length of the book there was a lot of detail about Basel that took away from Steffen and Mark’s relationship. I ended up not really seeing a connection between Mark and Steffen that would explain Mark making a permanent move to Basel, it just felt like they were investing too much for what we saw on page.
The story is wonderfully written and the characters are great guys, I just think the story got bogged down in so much detail about Basel that we miss a lot of interaction and development of Mark and Steffen’s relationship. That isn’t to say that what we did get wasn’t interesting and fun to watch because it was, but it’s muted and doesn’t really appear to be the focus of the story.
I recommend this to those who love travel and discovering heritage and customs, a relationship that blooms with love when neither man expects it, and a sweet happy ending.

Blurb: Dr. Nathan Powell is ready to settle down near his family, and hopefully find the man of his dreams. He returns to the small coastal town where he grew up, but while life is simpler than it was in the city, there are also complications—like patients’ reactions to an openly gay doctor. And like running into Nate’s first love, Damien, an out-and-proud local business owner who is unwilling to be any man’s dirty secret. The reunion reignites old desire even while it stirs up Nate’s guilt over the way things ended with Damien.
When Nate’s nephew runs away, Damien accompanies Nate on his mission to find the young man. The drive to Sydney, and the search of the city, gives Nate time to reconnect with Damien—and to wonder if he made the right decision years ago—when he determined a future for them was impossible. Is a fresh start realistic for two men in their forties? But before he can ponder the second chance they’ve been given, Nate must locate his nephew.
Review: This is a first time for me reading from this author, and I love how this book was well written and very enjoyable. I love that the characters knew one another already. Nathan knew from a young age that he was gay, and one afternoon while babysitting his little sister, he was caught kissing his boyfriend Damien at the Park. After that encounter, he decides that he’ll go away to Uni.
Years later, he moves back home to take over the position as a Doctor in the clinic where his Dad use to work. When he was living in the city, he was out and proud, but back in the small town, no one knows his orientation and he wants it kept like that, because he doesn’t want any trouble where the patients are concern.
Secure in his job, and reconnecting with friends, and with Damien, Nathan thought that he can just be friends with Damien again, but for him the old feelings are resurfacing, and he thinks that he might’ve made a mistake in running away years ago. When his nephew runs away to the city, Nate and Damien goes to Sydney to search for him. While there, they talk and end up reexamining their relationship. I’m sorry that this story didn’t have at least one or two more chapters to it. But it is a great story and I would recommend to anyone looking for a short read.

The Seventh Flower
(World of Love 05: Sweden)
by
Ingela Bohm
Christer is too old to believe in fairy tales. He’s not the kind of guy to pick the proverbial seven flowers on Midsummer’s Eve so he can dream of who he will marry, and he certainly isn’t the type to fall for someone he’s just met. Especially not a womanizing blogger named Henrik.
Besides, Christer’s previous marriage didn’t end with a happily ever after. Therefore he has no interest in gifting his heart to someone who lives five hundred miles away and probably isn’t even gay. His family is right: it’s time he grew up and stopped dreaming.
But Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden is a magical night, and Henrik won’t stop flirting. As the midnight sun shines down on the misty woods, maybe there’s room for one last dream.
