Review: This is a relatively quick read and the writing style very typical of the usual story progression in other books by AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly. I’m just going to put it out there: the reason why I gave this a 3 star-rating is exactly because of the writing style.
The MC of this ghostly tale is Ian. He’s relocated so that he can open a new office for the company he works for. Pretty simple and satisfying back story. When he wants to find a place to hook up, he asks for the advice of his employee, Steve.
At the local gay bar, as well as experiencing several creepy encounters, he also meets a number of interesting people, both living and dead. The blurb does not state the character that Ian has a relationship with so I will not go into characters any further.
Firstly, I love a good ghost story and while we got the basic bones of the ghost story (which is just a tad creepy) it really wasn’t presented as a mystery. Really, it comes down to the fact it just felt like I was told that there was a ghost and that there was a story behind it.
As I said, Ian encounters a number of interesting living and dead characters when he go to the gay bar – I think this could have been developed further. Although I suspect it was left as it was for the effect and give the whole air of mystery. By the time we found out what the story was, we were just told – it wasn’t slowly fed to us.
Let’s face it, I’m a traditionalist when it comes to ghost stories, I love ghost stories.
Secondly, as with every other book by the authors, the romance between Ian and the guy that ends up being his romantic interest was just rushed. There just wasn’t enough time for sparks or for anything really romantic to develop. I like both characters and I thought that they worked well together.
However, I just wanted both guys to have more of a story together.
