A snowstorm in the South—on New Year’s Eve—is a perfect recipe for a catastrophe. After two soul-crushing bad breaks, Kirk’s waiting for disaster number three to strike when naturally, two stray cats arrive on his doorstep during the storm and decide to make themselves at home. Tenderhearted Kirk lets them stay even though there’s something decidedly odd about his overly friendly felines.

Out of the punishing weather, and full of tuna, Dolf and Tal are happy to be snug in Kirk’s house. But then their human goes outside for firewood and suffers a nasty fall that leaves him unconscious. Now the two cats have no choice but to reveal themselves.

Kirk wakes up to find the two kitties are actually Dolf and Tal. They’re cat shifters—and his destined mates. Being part of a feline threesome is enough for Kirk to grapple with, but soon he learns they come from a clowder that doesn’t believe humans and shifters should mix. Kirk knew those two cats would be trouble. Little does he know the real trouble lies ahead.

Interview

1) I love this blurb and the idea of cat shifters instead of the normal types of shifters. How did you come up with the idea for cat shifters?

*laugh* Well, I love shifter books. Outside of sci-fi, it’s what I read and write the most. And while I love wolves and the big cat shifters, most of us don’t have much experience with such animals. (Now, having said that, I *did* have a friend who had a timber wolf as a pet.) I’ve even seen several books with dogs as shifters, but I hadn’t seen too many with regular cats.

Hmmm.  That got me to thinking. (See the smoke? LOL) I needed to explore this area. And okay, yeah, I’m a cat person. Besides, have you ever noticed how many cat pictures there are on places like FB? This area was just begging for attention!

2) I like stories with threesomes, but I find a lot of them focuses on one person, or they go so unbelievably smooth. A relationship with one person is hard to pull off. How do you think your threesome is different? Can we expect some rough times and a little jealousy?

In Trouble, you get each man’s viewpoint. I thought it was important we see what each felt.

No jealousy here, but it *is* an issue discussed in the story. They didn’t avoid rough times, though. In fact, it starts right off the bat. Kirk makes it plain he won’t be the ‘third’ in a relationship. Nor will he be a patch to any sexual problems the two of them might have.

As the story unfolds, he comes to understand that each man is an equal in the triad and brings something to the table. It’s all about balance with these three—each man fills a need in the others.

3) I love the title. After reading the blurb, I think I see how the title fits the story just from this bit. Did you come up with the title first or choose it after writing the story?

*Grin* There’s a story there too. As I was writing this—and Kirk was becoming a strong voice—he went on to inform me he was tired of all the crappy luck that seemed to be plaguing him. He’s griping, things in his home are tearing up and, suddenly, he’s telling me bad things comes in threes. What was I going to throw at him next?

LOL, well, he asked for it. And Trouble Comes in Three was born.

4) Do you have cats of your own and did they influence the story in any way?M.A. Church - Trouble Comes In Three's 20140727_133604_resized

Oh yeah, a cat owes me, lol. Again, there’s a story there. *Shock and amazement lol* First off, my son is asthmatic, and I have allergies, so we *couldn’t* have a cat. Well, two years ago last April, he moved out. That October, on Halloween night no less, this small gray and white cat showed up in our garage. I made it clear the cat had to stay outside. One kid had moved out, and the other was going to college. The last thing I wanted was something else to take care of.

*Dramatic music* It was MY time, lol.

That lasted two weeks. I got up one morning to find the hubby had snuck the cat inside. The two of them were on the couch, crashed out.

I took the cat to the vet for shots and starting taking Benadryl.  Now, he’s my writing buddy.

5) Can we expect to see more of these characters in the future? What are you working on now?

Oh, absolutely. I’ve started the next book, called Behind the Eight Ball. No threesome in this one, but I do introduce the Vetala. They’re a type of paranormal, almost snake-like, who hunt in pairs and have a strong pack mentality that extends like family. The family part is important in this book. The Vetala appear human until they attack, at which point they reveal deadly sharp fangs and blue, snake-like eyes.

The focus is on one of the betas introduced in Trouble, so the cats still command attention. They’re cats, that’s what they do, lol.

Excerpt

Dolf picked out the saw he wanted, then followed Tal to another aisle. His mate pointed out the different kinds, but Tal’s words had rapidly faded into a meaningless buzz. There, on the air currents in the store, was the sweetest scent. It was light and flowery, reminding him of honeysuckle. He breathed deeply, taking the scent into himself. His cock hardened immediately and his head spun. A yowl threatened to escape.

That scent… that scent was seductive and alluring. It spoke to him, whispering things that made him need. His cat paced frantically in his mind, tail slashing madly. The need to pounce, to sink his canines in and drink that sweet, life-giving blood of his…. His gums tingled and saliva flooded his mouth.

He swallowed, then swallowed again as his head pounded, his heart rate spiking as one thought screamed through his mind: Mate! Another mate! Where was that scent coming from? Or who? And by the goddess, why? He already had a mate. What was their goddess thinking, giving him another? But he couldn’t ignore the reaction. It had been the same when he met Tal.

Review: Kirk has been having a run of bad luck. On New Year’s Eve two large cats barge in and his life changes drastically.  Dolf and Tal are cat shifters and have been mates for a very long time. They love each other a lot and have a great relationship yet there are a few things  that could be better, such as Dolf doesn’t like to bottom at all but Tal likes to top occasionally. Tal is sweet and he likes his loving sweet and gentle, Dolf likes it rough from time to time and it would be good to have someone that fills these gaps—that balances them and makes them complete.  In a home store they both scent a new mate, Kirk is perfect to fill their needs but one big problem—he is human and their chowder doesn’t accept human very well.

Oh boy! This story was so good. I loved all the characters and there were quite a few. Of course Dolf, Tal and Kirk were the main ones in this book and I loved everything about them. I loved how you could feel their emotions and I also loved how this story dealt with prejudice in its own way.

I found the storyline so much fun. I adored the sense of humor throughout the book. I thought the cat shifters was a great, unique idea for a sweet romance.  I loved their world within a world. I also loved the ménage.  Finding a good ménage isn’t easy, since mostly it revolves around one character. Not here! Al three men got their needs met, they fit like a glove and the sex scenes were extra hot and sexy. This brings me to my one issue. I felt there was a bit too much sex. I would have liked either a little less sex or a bit more story added between some of the sex scenes. I felt the book was a little long. Which isn’t a bad thing but sex scenes are what made it longer. I’m not putting down any of the sex scenes they were all hot and steamy. It’s just my personal taste I would have liked more story in-between and wouldn’t have minded if it made the book even longer. It was that good that I could have read more. I also can’t wait to see if some of the other clowder members will be getting a story. I sure hope so!

If you like unique shifters, a paranormal world within our world, playful cats, sexy mechanics, a good ménage, a bit of mystery, lots of humor and loads of steamy man-sex this book is definitely for you!
