Double Alchemy
Susan Mac Nicol
Powerful yet tormented modern warlock Quinn Fairmont must initiate the silver-eyed Cade Mairston into the world of witchfinders, Withinners, and what can happen when two men fall truly, madly, deeply in love.
THE WORLD IN SHADOW
In modern London there lurks a warlock, Quinn Fairmont. Dangerous, powerful, tortured, sharing his body with the soul of an ancient Welsh sorcerer, Quinn is never alone—and never wholly himself. He fights against all those who would exploit his kind. He takes pleasure where he can find it.
In the forest of Hampstead Heath, Quinn’s hometown, Cade Mairston appears to him like a waking dream. Lithe, lean and silver-eyed, he evokes feelings in Quinn unlike any other: lust with true affection, immediate and shocking. Cade is clearly more than he seems. And yet, if a man of the world, Cade is innocent. He knows nothing of warlocks, witchfinders or Withinners. He knows nothing of what he is, what he might be, or what he might feel. For him, the story is just beginning. Magyck, peril and passion await.

Double Alchemy: Climax
Susan Mac Nicol
Powerful modern warlock Quinn Fairmont found ecstasy with the silver-eyed and not-quite-human Cade Mairston, but to know true happiness the pair must best both the shadow of a long-ago lover and an ancient enemy who seeks to destroy love, light and all they hold dear.
A BLINDING LIGHT
It begins with a Book of Shadows discovered by a London coven. The grimoire is as dangerous as it is rare, which is why it evokes modern-day warlock Quinn Fairmont’s desire. He collects objects of great power and beauty—like his lover, Cade Mairston.
Against all odds he and Cade found each other, but their perils have just begun. First is the ex-lover who once held Quinn in thrall. And, someone has been killing warlocks. Could it be one of his own kind? There are those too who would challenge Quinn’s power in their quest to overthrow him as Grand Master. Or is the danger something darker, something invoked inadvertently, rising from the shadows, building from the very inside of a man until it brings an end with a quick flash of light? Of the truth, the surface has only been scratched. Now Quinn and Cade must go deeper and find both answers and an end. They must learn what lurks in the hearts of men…and whether it seeks to love or destroy.

“Would you like to go sit down somewhere?” he enquired. “Perhaps you can tell me about what you do at the Institute and we can get to know each other a little better?”
Cade nodded, his hands shaking. The red liquid he held in the glass surged gently. Quinn put his hand gently on Cade’s shoulder as he guided him to the table. His hand tingled as he touched Cade, and he felt the rush of blood under Cade’s skin. Taut muscle felt incredibly welcoming under Quinn’s eager fingers.
Cade started and goose bumps blossomed on his bare neck. He seemed to be having trouble breathing and Quinn saw the desperate rise and fall of his muscled chest under the tailored shirt.
Cade’s silver eyes regarded Quinn with confusion, his lips trembling as he sought, no doubt, to understand what was happening to him. Quinn would bet his pension (if he had one) that Cade had never felt this way before. The knowledge made Quinn heady with power. He sensed the raging desire in the other man’s body for him.
He smiled in satisfaction as he moved behind Cade, inhaling his scent and his intoxicating essence. Quinn wanted to rip Cade’s clothes off to reveal what he imagined was smooth, sweaty, heated skin. He wanted to run his hands through the man’s wavy, silky hair and hold it in his hands as he forced him downward toward his groin and made him take his cock in that sinfully sexy mouth. He wanted to plunge into him right there and then and it took all his self control not to do any of these things.
They reached the table and Quinn pulled out a chair. Cade sat down, gazing at him wide-eyed as he took one large sip of wine, then another. Quinn watched in amusement as half of the contents of the glass disappeared. He raised an eyebrow. “Thirsty, were we? I’ll get you another one.”
He walked to the corner bar and ordered another glass. By the time he’d gotten back, Cade’s first glass was finished. Cade took the second one from him, his face bemused.
Quinn suppressed a pang of guilt at what he was doing to Cade. He squashed it as he told himself he was a full Warlock and Cade was a very novice Fey. Quinn’s needs were greater than Cade’s.
About Susan Mac Nicol
Susan Mac Nicol is a self- confessed bookaholic, an avid watcher of videos of sexy pole dancing men, geek, nerd and in love with her Smartphone. This little treasure is called ‘the boyfriend’ by her long suffering husband, who says if it vibrated, there’d be no need for him. Susan hasn’t had the heart to tell him there’s an app for that…
She is never happier than when sitting in the confines of her living room/study/on a cold station platform scribbling down words and making two men fall in love. She is a romantic at heart and believes that everything happens (for the most part) for a reason. She likes to think of herself as a ‘half full’ kinda gal, although sometimes that philosophy is sorely tested.
Lover of walks in the forest, theatre productions, dabbling her toes in the cold North Sea and the vibrant city of London where you can experience all four seasons in a day , she is a hater of pantomime (so please don’t tar and feather her), duplicitous people, bigotry and self-righteous idiots.
In an ideal world, Susan Mac Nicol would be Queen of England and banish all the bad people to the Never Never Lands of Wherever -Who Cares. As that’s never going to happen, she contents herself with writing her HEA stories and pretending, that just for a little while, good things happen to good people.

Review: I’ve read all but I think one of Susan Mac Nichol’s books and loved them all. Double Alchemy was very different being a paranormal. I wasn’t disappointed. This story still deals with broken men, as lots of angst and is very emotional with a touch of humour.
Quinn is a Warlock and owner of a prestigious business. He also has many secrets. At a charity function, he meets Cade an anthropologist. The pull between them is irresistible. They have wild sex and seem to bond further.
Cade finds out from Quinn that the pull between them was more than just physical sex and that Quinn is a warlock and Cade has Fey in him.
They seem to fall in love instantly, BUT, not being a big fan of instalove, it really works here. I found this a very interesting refreshing take on Instalove or the soulmate bond thing. This ran much deeper and I can easily accept the connection.
This story is full of intriguing characters, both male and female, witches, warlocks, and more. There were also fine lines between good and evil, which I really liked a lot. Almost every character had a good side ad a bit of bad also. I loved this because it made all the characters so realistic, since none of us are perfect. Don’t get me wrong there were some pure evil characters as well. The balance of good and evil was fantastic and kept you on the edge of your seat. The Warlocks had a Withinner, which is another type of warlock or Magical being. I would have liked a bit more information on this but, I loved this take on a familiar. I will admit at first it got a bit confusing since Quinn spoke to his Withinner, or he spoke to Quinn was in italics. Also Quinn and Cade’s thoughts were in Italics and at times especially early in the story I was a bit confused as to who was speaking. As the story progresses I got used to the switches though.
The plot is very complicated and intricate. I loved how the story was far from ordinary. I also loved that it is set in today with paranormal world mixed in. There is an ongoing major plot with lots of subplots spinning off like little webs. I liked how the plots of this story were resolved, but there were just enough of those threads left hanging making you want more. I absolutely love Tal (Quinn’s Withinner) and would love much more of him!
The story does resolve the major issues and has a happy for now ending with just enough hints that there is more to come. I for one cannot wait.
I recommend this: if you like paranormal stories that are different, world within a world, witches Warlocks, sprites, secrets, twists and turns, a touch of humour and some hot sexy ManLove.

Cat’s Review: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts This is the sequel to Double Alchemy. You really do need to read the first book to understand this one.
There is a lot going on. We pick up on the Warlocks being killed. Quinn can feel each time a warlock dies and since he and his Withinner had to preform a unity he has been weakening more each time. A book of shadows has emerged and Quinn wants it for his collection and to see if it holds the key to catching the Witch-finder General. Getting it means he will have to visit an ex- lover and he isn’t sure how Cade will handle that.
Cade is finding more and more about his being a water sprite. Quinn is afraid he will lose Cade to the Sprites or a very forward human that won’t keep his hands of Cade.
Ok that’s just some of what’s going on. Yes there is a lot and I was eager to see some of it. I feel that there was a bit too much going on and to me some things didn’t get answered and some got answered way to fast. I also missed the interaction of Quinn and his Withinner it seems we got much less of Tailsin in this one. And Tailsin was one of my favourite characters, so I would have loved a bit more of him.
Having said that, this book focus a lot more on Quinn and Cades relationship we got some happy news and some sad surprises. Being a romance buff I loved this and of course you can’t forget the hot sexual tension between Cade and Quinn. These two just sizzle!
If you like Warlocks, Witches, water sprites, magic, sweet surprises, sad twists, suspense, action, a great romance and some hot and spicy mansex this is for you!
Tams Review: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts
Cade Mairston’s life has changed dramatically over the past several months. He met the love of his life in Warlcok, Quinn Fairmont. But there is a price to pay for Cade, not only for loving the most powerful Warlock, but for being part Fae as well. People would kill him to get at Quinn, and would end his life becuase of his heritage, which has yet to fully explore or acknowledge. Cade is over the moon when Quinn proposes and the two begin to settle into as normal a life as possible for a Warlock Lord and his finance’. And isn’t that generally when the shit hits the fan.
Quinn’s jobs as the head Warlock often occupy his thoughts and take time away from Cade. Now he’s searching for the Book of Shadows that is currently in the possession of his ex-lover. A nasty bitch of a witch that Quinn has no intention of ever speaking to again. Warlocks are still dying and everytime it drains Quinn, not to mention the ongoing struggle between Quinn and his withiner. Can Quinn and Cade find the book and discover who is killing warlocks before one or both of them fall prey to the evil that seems to not only surround, but consume them?
Okay, I’ll start with what I enjoyed about this book. I love the relationship between Quinn and Cade. How they learn more about each other every day, and how to coexist as a couple and move forward together. It’s not always easy, but their love makes them stronger and determined to see it through. I also like the relationship between Quinn and his withiner, it’s a different and unique relationship, almost like a totem or spirit animal in the from of an ancient warlock that basically possess Quinn.
Sadly, I felt like this story was rushed. It moved fast, but at times it was moving so fast I couldn’t keep up and had to retrace some steps. And if this is the last story for Quinn and Cade, the ending was part anticlimatic and part bittersweet for me. So I hope it’s not.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and the characters and am satisfied with the paths they are taking, but I wanted a little more cohesion with the flow. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, witches, warlocks and fae… then you’ll probably enjoy this story.
Thanks so much for the post and for being part of the tour ♥
