Heart Trouble
D.J. Jamison
When Gage Evans gets a look at his hot nurse, he’s smitten immediately. Too bad he’s given the nurse the impression he’s some kind of daredevil. It couldn’t be further from the truth. Gage is a college journalism instructor writing a series of guest columns that require him to jump into new experiences — a fun bucket list, but one that does nothing to convince Ben he’s not an adrenaline junkie.
Fresh off his latest heartbreak, nurse Ben Griggs is wary when one of his patients shows an interest in him — especially when that patient showed up in the ER after a motorcycle accident. Ben’s ex was a biker, a friend with benefits, and he dropped Ben cold when someone more interesting came along. Ben isn’t the kind of guy who can hold the interest of an adrenaline junkie like Gage Evans for long. The last thing he wants is to lose his heart to the wrong man again.
The more Ben gets to know Gage, the harder he is to resist. He can only hold on for the ride and keep his guard up as much as he can. But Ben’s lack of trust seriously gets in the way of building a relationship, and Gage will only be patient so long. Can he trust Gage enough to give his heart, or are they destined to have a fling that goes nowhere?
This is a m/m romance. It is Book 6 in the Ashe Sentinel Connections series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Review: Ben is an ER nurse, who is still smarting from being dumped by his friend with benefits, so when a patient who’d come off his bike show an interest in him he makes it clear that he’s not interested even though he feels a strong attraction to him. Gage is a college teacher teaching a course on alternative journalism, and it lands him in the ER. Smitten by his ER nurse he sets about trying to convince Ben that he isn’t an adrenalin junkie but Ben’s trust is badly damaged and jealousy plays a part in keeping them apart.
This is a sweet story that has two men, one who is always being left behind and one who always pushes for more, trying to overcome their fears and embracing what they can have together.
The story is evenly paced and enjoyable, we get to know both characters pretty well and we root for them as they work through their relationship. They have great chemistry and are very hot together, their personalities mesh well and if it wasn’t for their past relationships insecurities rearing their ugly heads these two would have had a perfect relationship.
We also get a stella secondary character in the form of Zane, who has some serious trouble of his own and who turns to Ben and Gage for support. This little story-line adds a lot more depth to the story as it helps to highlight the type of men both Ben and Gage are.
I recommend this to those who love sweet contemporary romances that have a dash of jealousy, a smattering of angst, insecurities, and a great love story.
