Falling in love and living happily ever after was what Abner envisioned when he found his mate, but what he got was one disappointment after another. Sure Carter is everything he’s ever dreamed of, funny, witty, and the sexiest man he’s ever seen, but he can’t forgive Carter’s callous behavior. But the more time he spends with Carter, the harder it’s becoming to deny the man he can’t help but fall in love with.
When the council of paranormal beings calls seeking Carter’s help, he returns with Abner by his side. Just as their relationship starts to blossom, a hidden evil threatens to blow their newfound happiness right off the map.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.
This book was not really the same as the others. There was no instant love in this mating. There was a lot of hurt feeling really in the first half of it. Carter’s hurtful and cold words to Abner when they first met has caused a ripple effect in their mating. Now Abner is the cold and hurtful one.
So for the first half of the book I was leaning toward pissed off at both Carter and Abner. Instead of talking the two of them just kept hurting each other. Both in the way they talked and the type of sex they had.
I think the second half of the book was much better. More is discovered about the “coming”. The intrigue is getting deeper also as those inside the council turn to the dark and try to destroy those that make the rules.
Once Carter and Abner get their shit together things are definitely better. The sex improves and they are actually talking and learning about each other. But yeah the first part of the book left me very unsatisfied.
This book just left me feeling a little blah. The writing was good, things moved at a good pace. But the beginning just kind of ruined it for me even when things improved between Carter and Abner.
