Anyta Sunday - Locked Cover

Locked

(Telluric Realm 01)
by

Anyta Sunday

A curse threatens the Winter Kingdom.
A brother is turned to ice.
A rebel uprising is on the horizon.

Marble-maker Rye Cunnings is at the center of it all—and doesn’t know it.

He doesn’t know he’s the lost summer prince. Doesn’t know his blood can unlock Winter’s curse. Doesn’t know why the marbles he makes flutter with magic. All he thinks is that he’s crazy. That he sees things others don’t, like dragons and strange markings on his skin.

But when a dark dragon snatches away Rye’s only friend Milo, he is forced to face the crazy in his life and figure out a way to bring Milo back.

Help comes in the form of Cerdic Leit, a warrior who finds Rye to take him “home” to the Telluric Realm and their kind. All Rye has to do is follow him into Gatreau, the gateway to the four Telluric kingdoms, and all his questions will be answered.

In the hopes of saving Milo, Rye steps into this new and dangerous world. A world where he learns of the Tellurics and their Hansian foes. A world that is swept up in a bitter battle of justice and hate.

And a world that won’t let Rye leave again.

Rye crashed down onto blinding white stone. Instead of getting up immediately, he allowed himself a moment of shock and slammed his eyes shut. Here was warmer, smelled like the pages of an old book, and sounded like a hundred marketers were out in the park on a summer’s day.

Rye shoved against the stone and slowly got to his feet, blinking hard. Images stuttered, and the hand he’d opened the portal with pulsed like a cackle growing into a roar.

The first notion that popped into his head was Bloody hell. The second: It’s huge. The third: So this is what Buckingham Palace would look like if mated with a gigantic tunnel.

In front of him stretched a long courtyard, speared with oaks, webbed with paths, dotted with grassy ovals and ornate picnic benches and small fountains. A hundred meters above him were vaulted ceilings covered in glowing symbols, and at either side of the tunnel large buildings were engaged into the walls. The bustle of a thousand people wove around paths and through the cloisters running the length of the buildings.

“Oh God,” Rye murmured absently.

Cerdic stepped next to him, his warmth trapping the roar of his hand between them.

Rye shivered as the pulsing leaped up his arm and curled toward his heart and stomach like a fist ready to wring them.

He fought back with a laugh. “Where’s the scroggin?”

“Scroggin?”

“Seeds, raisins, chocolate. You snack on it during hikes through the wilderness.”

“I don’t follow.”

“This…” Rye thrust a hand toward it all and snapped it back close to him. “This is far too adventurous to move into without scroggin.” And then more soberly. “I’m going to get lost.”

“No you won’t. Follow me.” Cerdic readjusted his grip on Rye’s bag and nudged his elbow. “I’ll take you to your chamber.”

Rye jerked his eyes upwards as something lunged from the ledge that jutted out above the row of portals. A violet dragon with an armored rider soared down the length of Gatreau. Clawed wings shot outward as the beast raced toward a second, crimson dragon that had leaped from the opposite end of the tunnel. Both riders aimed lances at one another and a thunderous clap rippled through the tunnel as one lance met metal.

A roar of fire fountained from them and Rye tripped back on his heel, the pulse in his hand now overtaking his entire body. The dragons were far from him, yet it felt like they’d fired heat-balls in fast succession toward his chest.

He’d entered a nightmare.

About Anyta

Anyta Sunday author pic sA born and raised New Zealander from Wellington, I’ve been exploring the literary world since I started reading Roald Dahl as a kid. Stories have been piling up in my head ever since. Fast forward to my mid-twenties and jump a few countries (Germany, America, and back again), I started to put them to paper.

My genre of choice is romance, both adult and YA, gay and straight. You can take a closer look at my books, available as e-books for download in many formats!

When I’m not pushing my characters deeper into adventure, I chase my son around the house and fight my two comical cats for the desk chair.

Since 2014, I’m also part of CritShop Literary Services, specializing in writing workshops and editorial services for LGBT fiction.
