Blurb: Siberian pack alpha Dane Durov endured a lot in his young life and managed to survive, so he always assumed that he had a special purpose in life. If he’d had to guess, though, ‘bodyguard to the child of an Olympian god’ wouldn’t have been his first guess.

Frankly, he still thought it sounded like something out of a romance writer’s imagination. Romance. The mere word reminds Dane that love brings nothing but exploding pain. A man had ripped his heart out and left him hollow, but spending time with Ryder Winters is weakening Dane’s defenses. The young demigod is sweet, caring, beautiful — and dangerous. Dane finds himself daring to laugh again — but love?

Ryder Winters is shocked — no, stunned beyond reason — when he finds out that Zeus is his biological father. Zeus. The god of the sky and ruler of all Olympian gods. As a demigod under constant threat, Ryder needs around-the-clock protection. He struggles to deal with his newfound superpowers, but he also battles his growing feelings for his guardian, Dane Durov.

A trip to Siberia with Dane intensifies the confusion and adds lust and love to the mix for Ryder as he comes face to face with the past Dane has been trying to forget.

Things spiral out of control as Ryder’s powers are unleashed and Dane struggles to come to terms with his growing love for the man he’s willing to protect at any cost.

Review: Dane Durov is a transplant Skull Blaster, having joined the team when he was rescued from the Rogue’s in Siberia, sadly only after they’d killed most of his pack members. He is a big, brooding, bad ass werewolf that doesn’t trust easily. He loved once, had a mate, but that love was broken when Markus learned he was a shifter.

Then it was shattered when Markus died.

Part of the reason he keeps Ryder at arm’s length is because Ryder is so young and beautiful, and has an opportunity to live such a full life, without all the baggage Dane would bring into a relationship. Mostly it’s because Dane has locked his heart and thrown away the key.

Ryder has been to hell and back in his young life, literally, just to survive. When he came out to his parents they tried to drown him, and since then his love of the water has turned into a guttural fear. A fear he is working hard to overcome. Ryder makes great progress with the help of his protector, one sexy shifter with a bad attitude.

The writing is on the wall for these two, but Dane is nothing if not stubborn. And even after he succumbs to his feelings for the young, delicious Olympian, Dane manages to piss off the young man who has control over the lightning. Dane will have to say goodbye to the pain of his past if he stands a chance at a future with Ryder.

This book was just so much fun. I absolutely love Gasq-Dion’s dry, witty sense of humor that bleeds over into her characters. One of my favorite lines in the story, “what if lightening shoots out my dick?” and that is just one of many one liners that had me rolling while I was reading this book. It’s not all fun and games though.

There is the constant threat of attack from the army of Rogues, and they surely have a knack for popping up at the wrong time. And then we learn that Ryder’s parents are coming up for parole, so on top of everything else he has going on in his life, he has to consider whether or not he wants to testify at the hearing.

The perfect balance of drama, angst, humor and action all circulate to complete this latest addition to the Olympians series. Just a couple of side notes… a missing Olympian is found in this book and I’m intrigued. There is something mentioned about Thor, or a distant relative. It looks like Nate might be getting him a little sum sumthin!

And close to thirty books into this world (between the Assassin/Shifter books and the Twelve Olympians books) I am still completely engaged, engrossed and enamored with this world and these characters Gasq-Dion has created.

A MUST read for any shifter fans out there. But if you like paranormal romance, some kick ass characters and intricately plotted storylines, then you are going to love this series. You really have to start at the beginning though. At the very least, start with the first Olympian story, if not the first Assassin/Shifter story.

Review: When I first received this book for review, I wasn’t entirely sure what to make of it. I have to admit the title had me a little reluctant because when I see the word “batty” I think of it as the slang for “crazy”, as in “the lady’s gone completely batty”. Instead, batty bwoy (and other variations), I found out with a quick bit of research, is a Jamaican phrase for gay, bisexual or simply an effeminate man. At this point I was now intrigued.

Batty Bwoy is the first book published by Max-Arthur Mantle and is an interesting and riveting read. The writing style is more like a memoir rather than a traditional third person narrative but it was still engaging. The best way I can describe it is that the story links up a number of events in the life of a character making a very cohesive and pleasing narrative. It follows the life of the main character Mark.

Literally, from conception where we are introduced to his parents’ way back in 1969 a couple of years (I think) before Mark was even born. The moment that Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give you Up’ is mentioned, for those familiar, not only will you instantly get the song in your head (and now you have it in your head too! Ha!) But you will also know that we are towards the end of the eighties by now. But as soon as I made that realisation, we were going through the nineties too.

This is culturally very interesting as well. Mark, the ‘batty bwoy’ of the title, was born in Jamaica – lived in Jamaica too – though it gets rather complicated when I start thinking of his home life. Being that the author is Jamaican, who am I to argue with his reflection of Jamaican society. I also like how Jamaican characters spoke “in Jamaican”, for lack of a better word. I, for someone whose only knowledge of Jamaica is from some reggae and watching the movie Cool Runnings as a child, this was a learning experience.

This is an interesting and gritty read; this is basically a quick tour of gay rights, etc. through the eyes of one person. Really, all I can say that this is a story about a life, a man who just happens to be Jamaican and gay, and it’s a real interesting life that has been woven for him.

I particularly like the ending; it gives hope without giving too much away. It’s interesting to see how Mark as a character has changed through the years of self-discovery from a child to ending up as a 29-year-old man who hasn’t quite finished growing up. But as I said, there is always hope.

Blurb: When the right love uncovers the wrong secrets…

Hey, man–you a chick or a dude? Dealing with the same old boring question is a downer for college drop-out Ray Fayette, especially when it’s asked by the low-tipping, over-privileged students at the Ellery Diner.

When six-foot-five, muscle-bound straight arrow Wyatt Kelly publicly smacks down a fellow frat bother for caveman behavior, Ray’s interest is sparked. Wyatt’s not-so-subtle attraction sparks a few other things too.

But getting to know Wyatt proves dangerous. His sexy smiles and smart questions slide under even Ray’s prickliest defenses. Worse, his academic mentor happens to be Ray’s ex-stepfather, the dictatorial jerk who just kicked Ray out of his house. Again.

Wyatt suggests a housing arrangement that has surprising appeal—there’s space available at his frat house—but he’s unaware just how complicated Ray’s “identity issues” are. Ellery College kicked out Ray for a reason—a reason that could deep-six Wyatt’s academic career and Ray’s newly hopeful heart.

Review: Edie Danford’s “Uncovering Ray” brings us into the genderqueer world – a world where the individual does not identify as either male or female. Is Ray a boy or a girl? Does it matter? Perhaps it wasn’t supposed to, but it did matter to me. I wanted to just go with the flow and be this really cool person and just feel like “Well that’s just Ray, not a ‘he’ or a ‘she” but nope. I fell into the trap. The whole book, I wanted to know. Is Ray male? Is Ray female?

Wyatt succeeded where I failed. Apparently he took one look at Ray and that was it for him. While I applaud and appreciate this, I never felt I got a true glimpse into Wyatt’s head in that regard. I wanted to know if Wyatt questioned himself, questioned Ray’s gender. That being said I loved Wyatt. I loved the idea of a guy being just that cool. He seemed older than his years… whereas Ray seemed younger.

The story itself is of Ray, who Ray is, with and without Wyatt. Ray is messed up, much like many young adults that find themselves in the unique position of not identifying specifically with one particular gender. Ray’s history is a little vague at times, but you do see the struggle, the battle with family, society and self to be, quite simply, Ray.

While the first half of the book seemed to move a little slowly for me, it was the lead in, the build-up for the conflict and strife ahead. There is romance and sex; there’s angst, upset and resolution, all of which surprisingly had me in tears, both happy and sad. I’m not much for book crying, but Ray tugged at my heart.

It is eventually revealed whether Ray is female or male.

Surprisingly, as much as I wanted to know, the reveal defeated the point for me. If it really didn’t matter, then Ray should have remained… Ray.

Kudos to the author for some really difficult accomplishments – while I’ve read other genderqueer books, this is the first that did not inundate me with excessive use of pronouns, did not have me stopping every few paragraphs to wonder whose point of view I was reading. A main character without a specific gender role is not easy to read, and really, for a good part of the book, there was no male, no female. There was only Ray.

The start of this series has definitely captivated and held my interest. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the second book, simply because I want to read whatever it is that Edie Danford is writing next. If you’re looking for straight up MM or even MF this is not for you. If you’re willing to read something different and think you can keep an open mind, take a chance and give this a go. It challenged me; I think it might challenge you. Who knows? You might come out of the read looking at things a little bit differently; I know I did.

Blurb: Jake Landon thinks a second ranger season in the Colorado Rockies with Kurt Carlson is close enough to heaven, and a national forest is big enough to be his closet. Pharmacy school—and the luxuries of electricity and running water—can wait, maybe forever, as long as Jake doesn’t have to come out. He doesn’t plan on Kurt’s vision of his future being as narrow and direct as the single track roads through the trees.

“Your future, your fear, and me,” Kurt tells Jake. “You can have two of the three, so choose wisely.” Jake may have no choices left after they stumble on armed men guarding a beautiful but deadly crop that doesn’t belong among the pines and spruces. Angry men with guns are only one danger in the Colorado wilderness, and Jake’s reluctance to come out is now his smallest problem.

Kurt’s skills and Jake’s silver tongue may not be enough to get them out of this mess—how much of the blood shed on the mountain will be theirs?

Review: Jake and Kurt are back where it all started pulling another Ranger season in the Rockies, the two twin cots are stacked in the corner and they are still sleeping on the bed they bought and moved into the cabin. The fridge is still hanging by a rope. Buried in the cold water that lies at the feet of the log they made love next to for the first time. And sadly, Jake is still hanging more than just clothes in his closet.

When they stumble upon a field of flowers that should not be in the Rockies, all hell breaks loose and Jake winds up critically injured. It forces him to retire from the Rangers and separates him and Kurt. So Jake has to make a decision, Kurt gave him a choice…

“Your fear, your future, and me… You can have two of the three, so choose wisely.”

Let me start by saying that several times throughout this story I wanted to beat the shit out of Jake. Kurt has the patience of a saint I assure you. I was about ready to stop the audio and chalk this one up to a DNF when the proverbial shit hit the fan and suddenly, I was fully invested again.

So kudos to Singer for taking me to the brink and then reeling back in again like a flopping sea bass! The circumstance surrounding Jake’s injury made my head spin, I can’t say more, let’s just say spoilers, you’ll have to read for yourself, its great suspense and personal agony though.

As crazy as Jake drives me sometimes, I’m so invested in these two characters. I have to continue on their crazy, sometimes deadly, and always entertaining journey with them with each and every story. The suspense in this particular installment was taken up a notch from the Ski resort fiasco, I was on the edge of my seat, literally, and I almost fell!

Finn Sterling continues his role as narrator for Singers words, and I am so happy this author hasn’t gone the way several authors of series have as of late, changing narrators too far into the mix. Sterling has a certain tone set for these two characters… Kurt is the protector, while Jake may be a little bit bigger than him and they are a versatile couple, Kurt always has this protective bravado circling him and Sterling delivers that in spades.

I got a little misty eyed at the end a couple of times. In the hospital and then when Kurt stole the tanker to drive out to the college to see Jake. And let me just say, I adore Jake’s mother so much after this book. You’ll see why at the very end, god love her! Anywho, just be prepared for a bit of angst and drama and indecisiveness from Jake for the first half of the book.

These guys are so smexy when they get going though that you can’t help but be drawn in.

Review: Stanley is minding his own business running in the park at night when he is attacked by what turns out to be a rapid alpha werewolf. So starts the journey for Stanley into the world of the paranormal. Lucky for him he is not alone as his new mate Fen is there to help him.

With a wacky cast of secondary characters and an annoying villain, this was an awesome little short. Stanley and Fen are just so cute together. They are a perfect match from the start. This was fast paced with off the wall dialogue, hilarious scenes, spicy sex, and a happy ending.

I can’t help loving a book by Amber Kell. They always make me laugh and just enjoy reading them. This was no different. And really what more could you ask for, except maybe for more.

Review: This is a very unique story that was a fascinating tale. I must admit that there is something about it that makes it a tad bit hard to actually fall in love with but the story comes pretty close. It is told in such a way that will keep you captivated and also wondering at the same time. I was trying to figure out how the others will meet their mate when this did not state a series, so I will sit back and hope for one.

Jordan is originally from the United States but teaches in Japan. There is a mixture of feelings coming from him about it all. He has a soft heart for others, and he proves it when he picks up a cute kitten that was stuck in the rain. Won’t he be surprised to find out that cute little kitten is in fact a full-grown man?

Sasha is a shape shifter who is also a demon. He and his brothers had been once human, until a witch cast a spell and transformed them. They had been sold several times and used for making money. Their last master was quite evil and wanted them back.

The one who holds the book of shadows and the orb controls them. When Jordan saves him, not only is he turned the hell on but he has found their new master. Now if only Jordan is just up for the whole thing. Let’s just say Sasha is very ready to fill Jordan up.

This is a cute story that has a bit of danger in it that will keep your attention. It gave me almost everything I could ask for in a story. I had a blast reading it and would recommend reading it. Sasha at first seems like a little cutie but he is in fact very strong and protective of his new mate. I am not too sure which one I love more though.

Guess I will just have to read it more than once.

Review: This book has a fun formula – a nerdish, bookish young professor meets a new, sexy student who once was a security guard at the college plus being rather mysterious. Simple premise and overall it is quite enjoyable, which is why it was so painful for me to rate so low. To quote Mal from Firefly, “honestly, there could be tears”. So first off, I’ll go through why this is a great story.

First off the main characters, Tyler and Bain: Tyler is cute, sexy and completely nerdy while Bain is hall, hunky and very much a macho man. They have great chemistry together. There was also some great banter as well as a rather intriguing clash in their personalities. Then there are a couple of minor characters that spark my interest, particularly Tyler’s brother (complicated but I will come back to him later). The story itself flowed well and kept me turning the page despite what I am about to outline next. The point is, I cannot tell you enough how much I loved this story.

However, there is a big, big, big, BUT!

It’s the editing that has really got me wanting to cry. There is multiple times where words are misspelled by one or two letters, leading to the misuse of words. I normally would not point this out because no book is perfect and there is usually one minor silly grammatical error or another in every book. Here, you can’t go a more than a couple of pages without at least one error (I really did want to cry when in the middle of a good scene there were two on one page). Normally, this type of thing would turn me off of reading but I went on because of the story.

Which leads me back to Tyler’s brother, Sean: he is al mysterious and I get why (you will too if you read the book and get some of his back story). Particularly in the first half of the book, there was something missing about Sean and his story. I can’t put my finger on it but I really did want more of him in some capacity.

There was also a part of a chapter which was written Sean’s his POV, a rather large deviation from after only hearing from Tyler and Bain. The book is entirely first person which made this all the more confusing. I had to go back and read a few times to realise which character I was reading. It was interesting, but it needed to be flagged more clearly.

The reason why I’ve harped on about Sean so long is because he is a main character for the next book in this series, which despite my misgivings on this one. I really do look forward to reading.

Review: This book starts where Mighty Casey ended. Hot, sexy and great secondary Characters abound.

Casey and Nate are getting ready to go to Nate’s family reunion when Casey pulls up to Nate’s school. He gets met by Kenneth and told that Nate is running the practice for the kindergartener’s pee wee soccer team. This being Nate and Casey they have to pull over once for a sex break, before they get to Nate’s family home in the Appalachian Mountains.

Nate’s parental unit is a threesome, his mother, Zadie and his dads Smokey Joe and Rudy. Then there is Nate’s Seven Sisters and their husbands and kids. More than a full house. Speaking of that the house is almost a character in itself as it has had many additions added to it and it is a running joke that if a new comer ask for directions to the nearest bathroom that you can’t get there from here.

It is decided that Nate and Casey, in honor of the marriage, will be the Lords of Misrule for this gathering. So they get to determine what games are played Nate take’s charge of Outdoor activities and Casey indoor activities. While at the reunion Casey is deciding whether he is ready to have children with Nate. Nate who can read him like a book knows this and tells him that he shouldn’t decide by what he thinks Nate would want, but only if he was ready. It turns out that Casey is a child whisperer, able to settle the most cantankerous and cranky children in just a few minutes.

Eamon a secondary character is at the family reunion for the first time. Zeke, his fiancé, is on a commercial fishing boat and unable to attend. so Eamon is going for him. Eamon is shy and sweet and he and Zeke have been together since high school, but only became engaged after they finished college.

Where There’s Smoke

(Panopolis 01)
by

Cari Z.

Panopolis is a rough place to be an average Joe. I came here looking for adventure and excitement, but nobody cares about one more normal guy in a city filled with super-powered heroes. The closest I’ve come to glory is working in a bank that villains often rob.

But then I maybe accidentally-on-purpose helped a villain escape the hero who was trying to save the day. Imagine my shock when, a week later, that villain asked me out for coffee. One date turned into more, and now I’m head over heels in love with Raul.

Falling in love with the guy dubbed the Mad Bombardier isn’t without its downsides, though. I’ve had to deal with near-death encounters with other villains, awkwardly flirtatious heroes who won’t take no for an answer, and a lover I’m not sure I can trust. It’s getting to the point where I know I’ll have to make a choice: side with the heroes, or stand fast by my villain.

Either way, I think my days as a normal guy are over.

Little Mowbury is a sleepy English village deep in the Cotswolds. The kind of village where you’re only a local if your lineage can be traced back to the dinosaurs. Eighteen months ago Jason Havers lost the love of his life and it’s time to move on. Blurb: In a world where intellect and achievement are valued above all else, a young man risks everything to save his brother from a life of slavery. Thrown into a harsh, unyielding world where slaves are treated as less than animals, Sascha struggles to come to terms with everything he knows being ripped away from him, but a life of success could never prepare him for his life as one of the Demoted. Sinking lower and lower, Sascha begins to lose hope, but the whim of a mysterious, wealthy man has the potential to change all that.

Cashiel has a dark history that he guards carefully. Between family and business and politics, he rarely has time for a slave, much less a lover. But when he sees a young man who reminds him of the very history he is trying to escape, he makes an impulse decision that he’s not sure whether to regret or not. The slave could expose everything, or he could be the most valuable asset that Cashiel has ever acquired.

The question is, will that be enough?

Review: This was a really interesting read, although up front I am going to say you should stay clear if you take issue to reading a main character who suffers slave-type sexual exploitation and abuse (not necessarily from the other main character, but it is borderline). It is a very specific genre but I feel in the unrecognisable world created it works well.

Sascha became a slave in order to save his brother. He became a sex slave but is badly abused at the brothel where he worked. But the knight in not so shiny armour, Cashiel, buys Sascha when he needs to find a slave for Peace Day celebrations. It’s nowhere near as sleazy as it sounds, I assure you. These characters work well together and it really helps that we get to read the story from both Sascha and Cashiel’s POV. There is more to both Cashiel and Sascha than meets the eyes and their story is definitely not at an end. The next instalment shall prove interesting.

But I am left wondering what type of world where after another two further world wars is society so severely deteriorated that the “demoted” – basically those without a high IQ – are sterilised and brutalised in order to completely recondition them to become slaves?

Review: Each book in the Lone Wolf Pack collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Mathias has been alive for many centuries. He is part werewolf warrior and Sidhe who has been in quite a bit of pain. Mathias had always assumed that Will was his mate. He had taken Will in when he had been deserted by his mate and left him pregnant with his son. They had spent many years together as friends. Even helping Will take care of Jessie.

The problem was Will had not felt the same way as Mathias did. He felt abandoned when Will left with Jessie. He knew that he had to let him go. Then Will mated with Dean and it tore Mathias up.

So much so that Mathias had fought with Dean, tearing his and Will’s friendship apart. Now many years later, Will has asked for his help. Jessie was having a difficult pregnancy and Will was afraid for his life. He had always been drawn to where Will lived. But it is not until he is hit by a car, that he has found the reason why. The driver was his mate, and his mate was somehow related to Will.

Ward has been hurt by not only his lover, but his sister. His lover had turned around and married his sister. Telling him that he had to be straight. It didn’t stop Peter from calling him though. Now he has hit a wolf and finds out that wolf is in fact also a man. A man that he is drawn to, but has trouble with the fact that he reminds Mathias of Will.

It takes a bit of pain to bring happiness in the end. That and the dangers that come for them, their lives will never be the same.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.

After everything Julian has been through he definitely deserves a mate. I have to say that Daniel is really the perfect one for him.

These two are super high on the sweetness meter.

Not to say they aren’t sexy, because damn right they are. The sex between them was super-hot. But also touching, and somewhat sad at times too.

Daniel knew he was dying so he was determined to figure out who killed him best friend before it was too late. Even as he falls for Julian he knows time it limited. He just wants to complete his goal and save up enough memories to get through till the end.

Julian has suffered at lot at the hands of his dark family. He finds happiness in Daniel’s arms. But because Daniel does not have a scent mate he knows it’s just for a little while.

Once again the dark baddies are up to no good. But it does lead to a clue about Julian’s lost nephew.

I liked this paring a lot. They are adorable together and both deserve someone to love forever. It’s also nice to see past characters make a cameo. This was an enjoyable book and I was very happy with the way things worked out.

I am very much looking forward to reading more in this series. There are so many different storylines hanging in the air that I want to know about.

Review: Each book in the SeXlection collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

There is nothing better than a good paranormal romance with two gorgeous men involved. I love the way Flynn Eire can put together a book that not only fascinates you but draws you in. I had a blast reading this and look forward to reading more by Flynn. It does have a different style to this story that is a signature of Flynn’s. She is one of my top three authors that I have always love and will always follow.

This series is a bit harder to actually follow in some parts. They switch talking so much, without letting you know it and it was a bit harder to actually understand. However I can tell you that it doesn’t take away from the story at all.

Craig is a lawyer working with Mr. Morgan and his mate Cecil. They are trying to figure out ways to get shifters away from being sold and tortured. He has made it a known fact that he will never purchase one. However that changes when he meets Sage. He is instantly attracted to the little ocelot. He is forced to buy Sage to keep him from being sold to an evil couple intent on hurting them.

Sage is more than just a slave and an ocelot, he is in fact royalty. He has never told anyone so that he can stay alive and protect the others. He takes one look at Craig and wants him for himself. With the help of so many people they might just find a way to get the job done. Then there is the sex between these two that is super-hot. I love the fact that they don’t just get along all the time. They have their problems just like real life people who make it even better.

There are many different types of twist to this story that just intrigued me. The way it just flows off the pages is amazing.
There is something about the way that Flynn tells a story that will not only draw you in and keep your attention the whole time, but it will more than likely have you laughing just a bit. The characters are beautifully written with big hearts, however if you cross them, they have no problem putting you down.

They will protect their mates with their entire lives. I had a blast reading this story. This story is perfect for when you are trying to take a break. There is a serious tone to them but there is a touch of humor in them that I love. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It also gave me everything I could want in a book.

I can honestly tell you that this is going to be one of those types of series. One that I will have to read over and over. I love the way all the feelings they felt was involved in this story. It was the perfect story for me and I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next story.

When Flynn puts out a book I am usually there to eat them up. They do have a bit of a serious would definitely recommend reading this book. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Review: This book started out so great. The writing was on point and the pacing was just right. I liked both main characters Chase and Dylan, along with Dylan’s son Nathan. The story was engaging and entertaining. The two men had good connection and things were looking good.

Both Chase and Dylan have been hurt in the past and are slowly getting to know each other. Plus Dylan needs to look out for his son. They are both sweet and gentlemen looking for someone to love. And I was really digging that.

Right after their first sex scene things started just not jiving the same way. Everything seemed to speed up and the flow of the beginning was gone. Things happened that just didn’t really need to in my opinion. They added angst that just did not work for me. It was too fake and convenient. And one made no sense at all. They really just annoyed me. Even the dialogue was off.

It had such great promise in the start. And it was still a cute story in the long run. But certain things with other people outside the relationship just bogged it down. I was on my way to loving this book and then boom, a couple of what the hell moments.

So all in all, a cute and sweet story with a few execution issues.
