Blurb: Ten years ago, Roark lost his lover to a virus that killed millions. He’s searched for Frankie ever since. But bringing Frankie back might cost him more than his sanity. It might cost him his life.

Ten years ago, a virus swept the planet, killing millions. Just as the world started to recover from that disaster, mechanical aliens invaded Earth looking for iron–and they had no problem exterminating the human race to get it.

Anthony Roark lost his lover in the first wave of the virus. Frankie’s family secreted him away in a cryogenics facility until a cure could be found. But that was before the mechs invaded.

Roark has searched for Frankie since the day he disappeared. Once word reaches him that Frankie has been located, Roark wastes no time going after his lover. But bringing Frankie into the new world might cost him more than his sanity. It may cost him his life.

Review: Roark and Frankie are enjoying their first anniversary together when disaster strikes and Frankie was ripped from Roark’s arms, now after ten hard years of searching Roark has found Frankie but he has a lot of explaining. When Frankie wakes in Roark’s arms he is overjoyed but finding out he was a Popsicle for ten years is hard to accept, but not as hard as the truth of what happened to Earth in that time. In the new world that he wakes up in Frankie has to learn how to survive and fast, but after what feels like minutes to him but is years to Roark how will they reconcile everything that has happened with their love for each other?

This is a brilliant story that is filled with world-building and great descriptions. Roark has searched for Frankie for ten years and the hope of finding Frankie is the only thing that has kept him going during the horror of those ten long years, trying to explain that horror to Frankie is hard but admitting to Frankie that he wasn’t quite faithful during those ten years is harder. Frankie is shocked by everything when Roark finds him, discovering what his family did was hard but finding out that the world’s population was devastated by the same virus that floored him is astounding, and discovering the world is invaded by mechanical aliens would be just too much to believe if he wasn’t being chased by a mechanical spider.

I loved this story, as it was science fiction with adventure and action with the added twist of a rogue virus; add in a man so in love that he has hunted for his missing lover for ten years and you have an epic love story. Roark and Frankie are perfect for each other but they have a few bumps to iron out, it isn’t easy to be alone for ten years after all. Frankie is a remarkable character although he has a few wobbly times he takes everything in stride and has fortitude to face what is ahead of him. Roark makes you melt with his devotion to Frankie and you can easily forgive the blips in his strength.

The world-building is wonderful and you get the full impact of what has happened, the descriptions of the alien Mech’s are clearly detailed, although I could have really done without the explanations about the iron in human blood *shudder*. The journey they take and what they constantly face makes a great story and I am looking forward to the next installment.

I will recommend this to those who love science fiction, adventure, action, alien tech, hot sex, a lasting romance and a happy ending.
