Just A Week

Just a week is not enough time to fall in love, but Fate doesn’t care. Seth’s carefully crafted plan for how his life will go doesn’t include falling in love with a guy in his horrible hometown. He wants to start a new life anywhere but at home. Until Maddox storms in with his multi-colored hair and carefree attitude.

Long distance relationships don’t work and Seth isn’t into gambling with his future. But the more time he spends with Maddox, the more he’s willing to throw caution to the wind. Now his plan for the rest of his life has been turned upside down and seems to include things Seth never thought possible, including a lifetime of happiness in his hometown.

Excerpt

The exchange between JJ and me wasn’t something I really wanted anyone to see. Or something I had wanted to experience at all, but it had happened. It was comforting to have Maddox with me, like there was no other person I’d rather have at my side when facing my arch enemy.

No. JJ wasn’t my enemy. We just happened to fall at opposite ends of the high school hierarchy, at least as it falls today. It didn’t make his actions right, but there wasn’t any changing them now. All I can hope is that he knew the error of his ways and would teach his children to do better. I know I would. With all the antibullying campaigns that were out there today, surely one would work and make a difference.

“You want to talk about it?” Maddox laid his hand on my shoulder as we made the walk to my house.

I shrugged. “Not really. Maybe later.” I surprised myself at how true those words were. I never really talked with anyone about what happened in high school. My parents knew that I didn’t like high school and that I didn’t have a lot of friends. My roommates never asked about it. They seemed to want to forget their experience just as much as I did.

Our walk was silent after that. His shoulder brushed against mine as we strolled. The sidewalks were narrow near my house, being that it was the oldest part of town. I couldn’t really move over, unless I wanted to risk tripping, which I didn’t.

Once we reached the house, he walked up the front steps, taking them two at a time just like I always had. It occurred to me how comfortable he must feel here. How often did he visit my parents at home?
