Excerpt

Something about the figure is off, unexpected, unusual, but I can’t quite put my finger on what, and I don’t have time to stand around and ponder now—I have to act. I pull up a nice big burst of Hell-Fire from one of the pits down below, gather the flames into a ball in the palm of my hand, and then hurl the missile with all my might. It’s a good throw by anyone’s standard, a clean hit right in the chest that sends my adversary flailing backward. By my reckoning, the score is Saul: 1; Hell: 0.

A second later the figure is plummeting, and I’m reaching for Tom. There’s no time to pack, no time to gather any of our possessions. New clothes are easily acquired; Tom is irreplaceable. I latch on to his arm and yank him from the room. I hear him speaking, but the words don’t make it from my ears to my brain. All I know is we’re in danger and have to flee the scene. For all intents and purposes, it’s a case of “exit, pursued by bear”.

For some unfathomable reason, Tom’s digging his heels in, and I have to rely on my superior strength to drag him down the corridor to the emergency exit. It’s not until we’re in the stairwell, with the door firmly closed behind us, that my mind catches up with the rest of me and I comprehend what he’s saying.

“Saul, you just set fire to an angel!”

NICKI J. MARKUS was born in England in 1982, but now lives in Adelaide, South Australia with her husband. She has loved both reading and writing from a young age and is also a keen linguist, having studied several foreign languages.

Nicki launched her writing career in 2011. She published works through Wicked Nights Publishing and Silver Publishing before both companies closed their doors. She is now self-publishing some of her works, including the novella Time Keepers and the fantasy novel The Ragnarök Chronicles.

Review: This was a nice surprise. It is two stories in one book. That way you don’t have to worry about waiting for the next part. It is not one that I would have picked up normally. The cover is just a tad creepy however I was glad to have given it a chance. It was different to say the least.

Book one is where Saul is sent to collect the souls for hell. He is a demon after all and he loves his job. That is until he finds his next target. He starts to feel something for Thomas and is about to break the rules. Thomas will do anything to spend his time with Soul even sell his soul to him.

Book two is when the consequences happen after Soul not only doesn’t take the deal but tears up the contract on Thomas’s soul. Hell is about to rain down on them and they make a run for it. It isn’t till Heaven gets involved that things are looking up for these two.

Now over all this is one hell of a book. There is some hot sexy time, some evil demon time, lots of action, a bit of suspense and damn I had fun with it. I was actually quite surprised that I would but I can’t wait to see what other stories these authors have coming out. They make quite a pair.
