Blurb: Kayla Caruso is sixteen and, despite at one time being a popular cheerleader, she knows she doesn’t feel the same about relationships as her classmates. She dated a boy once to fit in but broke up with him because she wasn’t ready to have sex. Labeled “Ice Queen” by those who bully her, Kayla finds only a few friends willing to accept her.

One of them is Althea Ritter, the school’s volleyball star, who’s rumored to be a lesbian. Kayla finds herself drawn to Althea. But Kayla’s confused. Are her feelings straight, bi, or gay? Or perhaps she’s not interested in sex with anyone, male or female.

Kayla tries to work through these puzzling emotions, a task not so easy for a high school sophomore.

Review: Kayla is sixteen, was a popular cheerleader, had lots of friends and dated one of the hottest most wanted boys in school. She didn’t feel right being with him. Kayla decided to quit pretending to be something she wasn’t though she didn’t know exactly what she was. She knows she is different from all the other kids because she isn’t interested in any kind of sex.

She is taunted by her ex-friends and called the Ice Queen. She meets Althea volleyball star, and they become friends. She gets even more confused once she figures out she likes Althea, who is rumored to be lesbian.

As Autumn Leaves is a very angsty but sweet story of a young girl exploring her feelings, excepting she is different. I liked that Kayla is a very strong character even though she is only sixteen. She holds her own and doesn’t succumb to peer pressure.  The story line is powerful, and there is a lot of emotion expressed.

If you like coming of age, coming out, young adult, F/F, clean stories with a compelling storyline this is for you!
