Can a tabby cat with an appetite for silicone toys bring together a lonely computer programmer and a tattooed veterinarian looking for love?

Grant Murchison is a computer programmer with a great job, a small house he’s fixing up, and a mischievous tabby cat named Molly. Doctor Brodie Hall is a veterinarian with a sleeve full of tattoos and an enormous mastiff named Ruby.

When Molly gets sick after nibbling on Grant’s favorite purple toy, he rushes her to the vet clinic where the doctor works. Grant’s embarrassed to admit what Molly ate, but Brodie finds Grant’s reaction charming.

Brodie decides to pursue Molly’s owner, but getting close to Grant is a bigger challenge than he anticipated. Despite Grant’s attraction to the vet, his past leaves him unable to trust in a future together. Doc Brodie may be great with scared and hurting animals but will his techniques work on Grant?

Excerpt

Molly, the small gray and white striped cat Grant had adopted a few months prior, settled on the bed beside him, nudging him with her nose. He idly scratched the soft fur under her chin and felt the answering rumble of a purr. He adjusted his tablet on his thigh for the umpteenth time, frustrated by how difficult it was to read one-handed. Molly was impossible to ignore; if he tried she’d end up on top of the device, and he’d get no reading done at all. With a sigh, he blew his hair out of his eyes, closed the app, and tossed the tablet onto the nightstand beside him.

It was a good book, but even without Molly’s interruptions he was too restless to focus. He turned off the light beside him and slipped under the covers, checking twice to make sure the alarm was set. When he realized he could see the alarm clock clearly, despite it being on the dresser across the room, he reached for his glasses and removed them. He had a bad habit of falling asleep with them on and bending the frames. He fumbled in the dark for his glasses case, knowing if he left them out, he’d find them with chew marks on the earpieces.

When his glasses were secured for the night, Grant fluffed his pillow and settled in his bed again. Molly pressed against his thigh, and he idly ran his hand along her back, smoothing her soft fur.

“Oh, Molly,” he said with a sigh. “No offense, but you’re really not who I want in my bed right now.”

She purred harder, and Grant rolled onto his side, careful not to jostle her. More than restless, he was lonely . He’d moved to this area to get a job as a computer programmer, and while Lansing—a mid-size city in the Midwest—wasn’t a bad place to live, it made it very hard to find a partner if you were a shy, gay man. Grant didn’t regret moving to mid-Michigan. It had helped him make a clean break after things had gone south in his previous relationship. He had a nice little place he was fixing up, a decent job, and a couple good friends. But at the end of the day, he came home to an empty house with nothing but an attention-whore cat to cuddle with. Getting her had helped—there was a living being to greet him at the door when he came home and curl up beside him in bed while he slept—but it wasn’t the same as having a man to do that with.

The thought of a man in his bed was enough to make his cock twitch and he palmed it, rubbing through the boxers he wore.

“You’re pathetic, Grant,” he muttered to himself.

Not only was he lonely, he was horny. So horny he wasn’t going to get any sleep if he didn’t do something about it. Just thinking about the idea of sex had him hard. Pathetic? Yes, pathetic , he admitted to himself, but he shimmied his boxers over his hips anyway. With an indignant meow at being disturbed, Molly jumped off the bed.

Naked, he wrapped his hand around his cock and gave it a few tugs. Tingles of pleasure raced through him, but it didn’t feel like jerking off would be enough to satisfy him tonight. He needed more.
