The Case of the Cupid Curse

Sam Enderson is a human detective who inherits a building from where his Uncle used to run a detective agency. He finds himself working for paranormal creatures despite his resolve to stick with humans only. To supplement his income as a new PI Sam rents out rooms in the large house.

Bob is a vampire and turns up on Sam’s doorstep to rent a room. Sparks fly and Sam is attracted to the vampire despite himself.

Sam is cursed by a witch, and has two cases landing on his desk. Werewolves, annoying ghosts and a grumpy gargoyle are enough to drive Sam mad. But somehow in amongst all of this he has to find a missing fae and a missing shifter child.

The Case of the Wicked Wolf

Naiads, humans, sirens and a challenge for Alpha make up the intricate story in the race to rescue the missing children.

Sam and Bob have more than just the case of one lost child to handle. Not only is Shelby Hartman missing, but other paranormal children have disappeared. The race to rescue the children is hampered by naiads, humans, sirens and a challenge for Alpha.

Hartman Hunter is desperate to find his daughter. He turns to the demon Danjal Naamah for help. The problem is that Danjal is the only person Hartman has ever loved—the man he let go for the sake of the pack…

Amber Kell

Amber Kell author pic sAmber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn’t writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of ‘what if’ and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband’s insistence she doesn’t drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres.

REVIEW: This book contains two stories which are about one hundred pages each. The second case actually starts in the first story so I would recommend reading them in order.

R.J. and Amber have always fascinated me with their stories. The worlds that these two authors write about are not only a lot of fun but they are so unique that my attention is always captured right off the bat. This is the first time that I have read something that both wrote, so I knew that I would definitely get a kick out of it.

Book 1 – The Case of The Cupid Curse

Sam’s uncle had left him a home and a business when he passed. Although he was one hundred percent human, or so he thinks, the business deals with the paranormal world. He has not been a fan of wolves, witches, warlocks, and vampires. He thought becoming a private investigator would give him a better standing then being a book seller. Boy was he off in the head when he thought that. Right off the bat, he is getting some crazy customers. He just wanted a new life, one that did not include his cheating ex.

Bob is a sexy vampire who answered an ad for an apartment, shared by Sam. After trying to glamour him, Bob realizes Sam is not completely human. However try telling Sam that is like getting kicked in the balls. He just knows he is falling in love and will protect his man.

First a witch curses him, then a triad fae is missing their triad, a werewolf alpha’s daughter is kidnapped and all hell is breaking loose it would seem. To top it off he has a very grumpy gargoyle, a grouchy ghost and now a talking cat, what else could happen in a day. I loved the humor that this story brings out. Solving this case, might earn him a lot more than a sexy vampire intent on bedding him.

Book 2 – The Case of the Wicked Wolf

You start this case in the first book and what a blast it is. Alpha Hartman’s daughter Shelby is missing. Sam, Bob and their crazy crew is set out to locate the child. However it turns out that Shelby is not the only missing paranormal child. It would seem that the ones who are holding the children are only capturing young girls, holding them till they are mature enough.

In this you get Sam’s part but also the alpha’s part, showing another relationship building. However we have the past resurfacing to make Sam’s life even more troublesome. It seems his ex is a leach in more ways than one. Although Sam is getting some very interesting ‘special’ gifts from some very crazy characters. I don’t see Sam and Bob working on any human cases in the future.

Throughout their ordeal Sam and Bob’s relationship has moved on to being mates. The black cat he inherited from a witch gone bad, has given him some interesting gifts. We have also not learned what Sam is yet, which is a blast hearing him repeat that he is only human. I loved watching the alpha reconnect with the one man he loved. It would seem that vampires, humans and werewolves can in fact work together.

Overall

This has been one hell of a fun book. Both stories are not only entertaining but had me laughing my ass off as well. What had fascinated me at first was the title of not only each story but the series name as well. I love paranormal romances and when you add in a mystery I am pretty sold on it. Here you have a human, or not, working as a private eye for paranormals. You get a whole new set of different types of paranormals to deal with. The fun part was everyone asking poor Sam ‘what are you?’ I could just imagine his expression each and every time.

This caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It also gave me everything I could want in a book. The romance part was not the main focus which was a pleasant surprise, at least for me. I loved both books and can’t wait to start on the next one.

This is one book I would definitely recommend.
