If Wishes Were Horses
by
Silvia Violet
Kenneth Carver had everything growing up except warmth and acceptance. When protecting his family’s name became more than he could bear, he came out as gay, sold his company, and bought a horse ranch.
Andrew Wofford’s last undercover assignment nearly cost him his sanity. Now he has another chance of catching the drug runner who killed one of his informants and then escaped, but gruesome flashbacks threaten his ability to function in the field.
Andy’s latest investigation sends him to Ken’s ranch where he poses as a ranch hand. Ken is a prime suspect, but Andy refuses to believe Ken is guilty, in part because Andy is falling for him. Ken knows Andy isn’t who he seems, but he can’t bring himself to push the man away. When Ken hears rumors that someone is using his land to move drugs out of the city, he worries that it’s Andy. Neither man can trust the other even though that’s exactly what their hearts tell them to do.

About Silvia
Silvia Violet writes erotic romance in a variety of genres including paranormal, contemporary, sci fi, and historical. She can be found haunting coffee shops looking for the darkest, strongest cup of coffee she can find. Once equipped with the needed fuel, she can happily sit for hours pounding away at her laptop. Silvia typically leaves home disguised as a suburban stay-at-home-mom, and other coffee shop patrons tend to ask her hilarious questions like “Do you write children’s books?” She loves watching the looks on their faces when they learn what she’s actually up to. When not writing, Silvia enjoys baking sinfully delicious treats, exploring new styles of cooking, and reading to her incorrigible offspring.

Review: Ken has worked hard to build a life for himself away from his family, now he has sold the company that he built and bought himself the horse ranch he has always wanted. Andy is suffering from PTSD after an undercover assignment went bad for him, now he has a chance to the catch the criminal who killed one of his informants but it means going undercover again. Andy’s investigation takes him to Ken’s new ranch and his gut instant says Ken is innocent, or could it be the instant attraction? Ken wants to trust the new ranch hand but his past is a little murky, and when he hears rumors that drugs are being stored on his ranch he wonders if he can really trust Andy.
Well, what do you get when you put a city boy cowboy in a room with a cop cowboy?… an inferno waiting to happen! Ken has walked away from city life to live out his dream of owning a horse ranch, he’s making a go of it when Andy walks into his life and Ken finds himself with a new dream… having the cowboy to himself. Andy was nearly broken by his last undercover assignment, it still haunts him but he is determined to bring the drug runner to justice. Andy finds himself longing for something different though when he meets Ken, but the case has to come first.
Hmmm damn but I don’t think there is anything better than a cop going undercover as a cowboy *sigh*. Ken and Andy are two incredible strong men; both know what they want and can’t fight their attraction even as they doubt each other’s honesty. Ken needs someone who can take what he can give but who can also give him what he needs and he thinks he finds that man in Andy. Andy knows exactly what Ken needs and can handle anything Ken throws at him but the secrets he keeps could drive them apart. These two sexy men are passionate and hard, they set the pages alight with their intense coupling now they just need to work on the trust between them.
This is an excellent story where a man plagued by his ghosts tries to lay them to rest and where trust is hard to form when the truth is shrouded in secrets. We watch as Andy fights through his demons and investigates drug runners, we see Ken desperately wanting to put his trust in Andy but knowing Andy is keeping something from him. This is a wonderfully written book that has great characters and a brilliant storyline, there’s some action and a hot relationship built on instant attraction and scorching sex. I will admit to wishing there had been more between Andy and Ken, rather than it nearly all seeming to be about sex (yes I am greedy I want it all) I understand that with Andy being undercover it was hard for him to be open but I just wanted at least some tender feelings coming through.
I recommend this to those that love passionate cowboys, a tortured soul, a man beginning his new life, a great storyline and a very happy ending.

This is my first Silvia Violet book. I finished the first chapter late last night and I’m really liking it!
What more can a reader ask for: romance; cowboys; an undercover cop; mystery & intrigue; a well written story; a bit of angst; err cowboys; but most importantly a happy ending 🙂 . I have been reading the ‘Wild R Farm’ series (which has cowboys and shifters) and look forward to reading this book as well. Silvia’s books are well worth reading and there are plenty more I have on my TBR list The book covers are also very good – hot and sexy
