Review: Chaos erupts in this sequel to Seduction of a King. Something has been unleashed in Wonderland, a creature that is leaving a trail of bodies, and James the King of Hearts has a plan to bring an end to the madness.

We learn what happened to Kayden when James betrayed him, what I believe caused his decent into madness and his journey to becoming Hatter. Marcus is on a mission in New York to obtain an amulet and a spell that James needs in order to defeat the creature. Let’s just say, while he’s there he gets a little side tracked. Darkness and betrayal run deep in Wonderland.

Marcus finally returns to Wonderland, but doesn’t immediately go to his stepfather. He tries to gain more knowledge about the items he brought back, but everything in Wonderland comes at a price, sometimes a price too high to pay. All the while, they are closer to discovering the whereabouts of the creature that is wreaking havoc throughout the Kingdom.

There was so much going on in this story that at times, it was hard to follow. Multiple characters and storylines intersect, but at times, they were broken and disjointed. I found myself having to go back and read several pages over because I was so confused. I did enjoy the back-story of Kayden in the dungeons, it gave much more insight into his persona now and why he is Hatter. And he finally says those three little words, hearing them in return, but you’ll have to read the story to find out to whom.

There is a fantastic moral story as well that is tied into the creature that you will learn toward the end of this book. So while there were some hiccups and speed bumps along the way, the random pit stops will give you more insight into certain characters and their story specifically. I especially liked Rabbit’s distraction while in New York. And of course, Metheny left us with a delicious little tease for the next instalment in his mad version of Wonderland.

This is the second book in a series that should be read in order. Seriously, if you don’t read Seduction of a King first you will definitely be confused!
