Quinn Dressler!

Hi everyone

My name is Quinn and I’d like to thank everyone at MM Good Book Reviews for inviting me to talk about my upcoming book.

I’ve been reading m/m fiction for years, first through slash fan fiction sites dedicated to my favorite TV shows, then reading eBooks on my phone or e-reader. While I wrote my share of fan fiction years ago, only recently I’ve made the plunge into creating my own fictional worlds, which at the same time is a lot more work, but much more fun.

The result is my first novella Murder Most Yowl available June 29th by Dreamspinner Press. Yowl combines three of my favorite things, two men falling in love, an interesting murder mystery, and cats. Having been a pet parent to six cats over my lifetime I have a crop of cute kitty stories to share. I also love to tell romantic stories of guys falling in love, all while being either shot at, chased, or otherwise put in all sorts of danger while they track down a killer.

The focus of the book is an ex-NCIS agent named Cameron Sherwood. Fed up with living a lie, Cameron torpedoes both his job and his relationship with his father by coming out of the closet. He discovers new happiness by moving to a small town on the Oregon Coast to open a shop devoted to his favorite animal, cats.

Quinn Dressler - Murder Most Yowl (Bailey Kitty) sIn fact, Cam has become quite a success with the feline set. Any kitty within range comes a running when he shakes a bag full of his patented tuna/salmon bites. But Cam finds himself stepping back into his old line of work when a cat in need, the poorly named Mr. Muffin Tops, is injured when his owner is murdered.

Cam runs into a couple of obstacles while trying to track down his friend’s killer. One is a cranky, yet super sexy sheriff named Jake O’Neill who is not pleased to find a cat sitter sticking his nose in his jurisdiction. Another is a kleptomaniac cat named Edgar who loves to steal any bright, shiny object in sight, including a vital clue.

Throw in a pair of meddling sisters, a scary encounter with a Russian mobster, an even scarier blind date, and a cat powered surveillance system and you get Murder Most Yowl.

If you have any cat adventures of your own to share, or comments on mysteries romance or anything else I’d love to hear them.

Until we chat again.

Excerpt

A nice lady lost her life today. Homicide wasn’t my business anymore, but I wanted to help catch her killer.

“I could hang around, Sheriff, and give you a hand.”

“I have enough help, Mr. Sherwood, though if I need to interrogate the cat I’ll call you.”

The forensic team laughed, but I didn’t find the joke funny. All small-town sheriffs were assholes after all.

The coroner arrived. I backed out of the doorway so he could push his gurney through. I wasn’t needed.

As I stepped into the hall, the sheriff told the coroner something I could not believe.

“It looks like she interrupted a burglar, doc, and he killed her for it.”

I whirled around, storming back inside. “Are you kidding? You think this is a burglary gone bad?”

“Mr. Sherwood.” The sheriff turned on his steely look again. “I thought we already said our good-byes.”

“I can’t believe you’re this dumb. A panicked burglar didn’t kill her.”

“Dumb?” Yes, O’Neill’s face flushed, nearly as red as his hair. “How dare you barge into my crime scene and start questioning my deductions. You’re just a cat sitter. You don’t know anything.”

“I know how to use my eyes,” I countered. “Take a look around. Her cell phone and purse are by her desk. Why would a robber leave them behind?”

“Killing a woman could fluster even a pro. He forgot them in his haste to get out, that’s all.”

“A burglar wouldn’t mess with the books and the files. An intruder, searching for something, would.”

“People hide valuables behind books and in filing cabinets all the time. It’s the first place a burglar would look.” O’Neill picked the photo fragment off the desktop, holding it up so I could see. “Where’s her pendant? It isn’t on her neck.”

He had me there. “Maybe she left it in her bedroom.”

“We’ll check. Now if you don’t mind….” The Sheriff’s fingers latched on to my elbow, digging deep as he pulled me to the door. “I’ve had enough of you and your amateur theories. Get the hell out and take care of your cats. Leave the crime solving to the experts.” He pushed, sending me stumbling into the hall. The door slammed closed the second I was clear.

I stood there, torn. I couldn’t let O’Neill just write off Ms. Welch’s murder, but what could I do? I willingly gave up my badge and my gun years ago. Ms. Welch deserved justice, but butting heads with what passed for law enforcement in this town wasn’t going to get me anywhere. First I had to get back to the shop before the kids spent all their money elsewhere, then I needed to check on Mr. Muffin Tops and make sure he was okay. After that, I’d consider my next step before diving headfirst into somebody else’s murder investigation.

About Quinn

For years I’ve loved reading about hot young men finding love while coping with anything else life throws their way, be it dealing with discrimination, trying to solve a murder, or maybe exploring a distant planet for the first time. I first tried my hand at writing m/m fan fiction stories, but now am coming up with adventures featuring my own characters. I’ve always been thinking up stories. A shy kid, I conjured up new adventures for my favorite television characters while walking home from school. At first I only kept my tales to myself, then I started to share them with others through fan fiction and short stories. When I was older I got a job with a couple of local TV stations, passing on noteworthy events from my local community to viewers on the evening news, winning a Golden Mic and three Emmy’s along the way. In my spare time I learned to fly small airplanes, and traveled with friends and family around the world. No matter where I went or what I saw, I always found a spark for more stories. My cats are always there to give their support, usually by walking over the computer keyboard while I type, yet I continue to love them so very much. I’ve now left the TV news world mostly behind and divide my time by trying to shed some extra pounds, not having much luck yet there, and working to get the stories out of my head and down on paper so everyone can enjoy them. Feel free to drop me a line. I’ll be happy to write you back anytime that kitty is off of the keyboard.

  1. Congratulations & good luck on the release of your debut novella, Quinn. The premises intrigues me.
I’m not really a cat person though somehow cats seem drawn to me. There was even a time a kitten followed me around and in the morning I woke up with him sleeping & purring contentedly on top of my chest. He must’ve thought I’m his mother. LOL.

  2. This certainly goes to my TBR list. I want to know who hurt poor Mr. Muffin Tops! You see, I’m a proud pet parent of a kitty myself

  3. Congratulations & good luck on the release of your debut novella, Quinn. Love the premises, and the cover, too.
    Plus, it involves cats. 😉
Looking forward to read the story!

  4. I love the title and then I love the blurb. So I am placing this one on my list.

  6. This sounds like fun (and maybe a little scariness)! Great cover, too. Thanks for the post.

  7. Congratulations on your first novel =) It sounds like it might be quite a cute read but also fun and suspenseful what with murder running amuck.

  8. Well, I love cats too!! I don’t have one at the moment because my living situation doesn’t allow me too. But I would love to own a cat of my own one day. I do have two stray cats at the train station that I always wait for me, maybe because I give them food every morning LOL. Congrats on your first book.

  9. This sounds right up my alley! I love me some murder mysteries…

    Thanks for the giveaway!
