Blurb: Danny Avers is a teacher in small town Colorado. Back in the day, before high-speed Internet, social media, smartphones, or streaming anything, Danny’s just trying to live down his wild teenage years and carry on the only way he knows how: one day at a time. The last person he expects to see back in town is Harlan Quinn, his old best friend and former consummate bad boy. And when he finds out Quinn is the new sheriff and his new neighbor, it’s even more of a shock.

Quinn knows there’s more to his old hometown than meets the eye. There’s more to Danny than old memories and quiet living too. But as in the past, stirring things up is Quinn’s specialty, and he sets out to do that, in more ways than one, pushing Danny to admit there’s more to life and that their old town just might manage to be new again. That’s if old town thinking doesn’t get them both killed.

Review: Danny and Quinn were lovers when they were teenagers, then Quinn left town. Danny was in an accident where several local teens died. He was the only survivor, and he had been drunk and high. After a long stint in the hospital and rehab, he went to college and became a teacher. Danny lives a solitary life; his only friends are a couple of teachers that speak to him at work.

Quinn returns as sheriff and rents a house on the outskirts of town, and it turns out that his first love, Danny is his neighbor. Danny and Quinn hit it off well, rebuilding what they lost.

Quinn has a secret of why he really is in town. One that could put him and Danny in Danger.

I love B.A. Tortuga’s style of writing. The short, clipped sentences usually add punch to the characters. However, in this story, I think there were some sentences that this style made the thoughts a bit confusing, and I had to read the paragraph a few times to catch on. Of course, that is just my opinion.

Both Danny and Quinn’s past were brought up a lot but not in detail. We knew they had one but not how they met or even why Quinn left suddenly.  I would have loved more of this back story and a bit more of the mystery that Quinn was working on than some of the sex scenes. Don’ get me wrong…the sex was scorching, but there was way too much in my opinion.

Now having said that…I did like the story. I liked both Quinn and Danny. There were scenes to die for. I adored the Thanksgiving scene.  It was only one of the scene that made the story so realistic and brought Quinn and Danny to life. I also felt so sorry for Danny a few times as well. Just the relationship between Danny and Quinn makes this boo worth reading. Oh, I almost forgot Rags. You have to love a dog in a story, and Rags is a fun addition!

If you are looking for a story with a sexy sheriff, a hot schoolteacher, a cuddly dog, a bit of mystery, second chances, some angst and lots and lots of scorching hot man-sex, this is for you!
