Blurb: The only thing Emmett has known his entire life is the zoo. He was born in captivity, taken away from his mother when he was twelve, and has lived alone in his cage for the past twelve years.

Levin is a free shifter. He was born free, and he’s made saving shifters under human control one of his missions in life. The lucky ones are locked in zoos for human entertainment. The unlucky ones are in labs, being tortured and killed.

Emmett and his best friend are rescued from the Colorado Zoological Park just before the park plans to get rid of Emmett for not being able to breed. Emmett has trouble adapting to life outside the cage, but Levin is there for him, helping him every step of the way. It’s confusing and scary, but Emmett has never felt so safe—yet so out of place.

Levin and Emmett must find a way to fit together as they deal with a jealous ex and Emmett tries to become a true pack member. When one of the kids runs away, not even Levin listens to Emmett when he says he can help. Will Levin manage to rescue the pup before it’s too late? What will happen when Emmett decides to disobey Levin’s order to stay put and gets hurt in the process?

Review: Each book in the Free Shifters collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in s
sequential order.

Many years ago, shifters thought that the human’s would accept them into their world. They found out just how wrong they were. Either you were slaughtered or thrown into a cage for life. Many shifters were born in captivity, such as Emmett. However there were some that managed to escape the life and were called free shifters. Free shifters who tried to rescue all that they could.

Emmett had been born in a zoo, but had been taken away from his mother at the age of twelve. He has never known freedom or what the outside world was like. Forced to try to get a female pregnant, he knew his death was soon to come. Then Levin showed up to save him and another.

Levin has been free all his life and made it is life to rescue those who were caged up. He just hadn’t expected to fall for the little guy. However life is not all about understanding, because Emmett was having a hard time adapting to his new life. Then a young shifter decides to go outside where the hunter’s were and got lost. No one will listen, so it is up to Emmett to save the day.

This sounded like a fascinating story but it doesn’t seem to flow as smoothly as the rest of Catherine’s books do. It just seemed a bit off to me, but was still a very fascinating book. I loved the worlds this author creates and the characters rock. It caught my attention and kept it to the end of the story.
