PsyCop Briefs Vol 01

by

Jordan Castillo Price

Victor Bayne sees dead people for a living…and he sees them off the clock, too. After all, ghosts don’t confine their appearances to a psychic medium’s work hours.

From the mundane to the macabre, these PsyCop shorts feature stolen moments between the novels. Get a glimpse of Vic’s life with Jacob between cases, from both men’s viewpoints. Gain new insight on their psychic talents by accompanying them on odd jobs, shopping runs and family visits, or simply enjoy some downtime in the cannery.

The twenty short works range in length from flash fiction to novelettes, woven together to create a novel-length narrative of Vic and Jacob’s relationship from a fresh perspective. The stories are gleaned from various sources: anthologies, newsletters, and web, with four all-new pieces to tie the collection together and delve deeper into a PsyCop’s domestic life.

Blurb: Victor Bayne sees dead people for a living…and he sees them off the clock, too.  After all, ghosts don’t confine their appearances to a psychic medium’s work hours.

From the macabre to the mundane, from titillating to tender, these PsyCop shorts feature stolen moments between the novels. Get a glimpse of Vic’s life with Jacob between cases, from both men’s viewpoints. Review: If you’ve never read any of the PsyCop’s series then this anthology is a good way of being introduced to some of the characters in the series and getting a taste of the chaotic life that Vic and Jacob live. If you have read the PsyCop series then this is a wonderful opportunity of seeing the guys in a slightly different light at different times; before, during and after the series, we also get the chance to see out of Jacob’s eyes a couple of times and from Lisa’s POV.

This is a fantastic collection, we get to see a slightly softer (only slightly though) side of Vic at times, we get some intimate times between Vic & Jacob (I will never be able to put a shelving unit together again without thinking about these guys) and we also get some great times as Vic hunts for ghosts (with Jacob of course).

This is a true treat as we get the chance to revisit the PsyCop world; we get insight into Vic’s feelings for Jacob that he usually keeps them well hidden, we see glimpses into friendships that we don’t usually catch and we get to see Vic and Jacob when they have down time.

Oh a quick word about the anthology, the stories aren’t in chronological order so one story will be near the end of the series and the next could be from the beginning of the series, it makes for an interesting read though 😉

I recommend this to those who love urban fantasy type stories, contemporary paranormal and ghosts & spirits. Who love getting a deeper insight into characters, who love quirky ghosts, and who adore brilliant characters.
