Excerpt:

May I help you?”

When Cameron turned, he forgot to speak. Standing there was a man—a beautiful creature, whispered a voice in Cameron’s head. He didn’t quite look of this world. He was tall with dark hair swept off his face, its highlights of turquoise and green reminding Cameron of the peacock feathers he’d been looking at earlier. Dressed all in black, he was adorned with silver earrings, necklace, and rings, and his eyes were lined with purple. And what amazing eyes they were: sea green, ocean gray, ancient, wise, and warmly regarding Cameron as if the man knew him well. His generous mouth curved in a small smile. He looked to Cameron like some fantastic nobleman from the eighteenth century.

Review: Cameron has his life all figured out, finish business school, return home and get a job and then marry his girlfriend – but the dreams of being a musician are buried deep, forgotten for the life he is expected to live. When Cameron goes looking for wedding rings he finds the mysterious Apollo who tempts him to ‘follow his soul’ and so much more, but will Cameron find the will to give up what is expected of him  and go after what his soul desires?

This is an interesting little urban fantasy story that has a very mystical feel to it. Cameron has been guided to his choices through expectation, expected to get a girlfriend (and to deny his urges to himself), expected to go to college for a business degree, expected to marry and have kids, expected to live a boring unfulfilling life… but the day he walks into a jewellery shop everything begins to change for him as he is tempted with his soul’s and heart’s desire. Apollo tempts Cameron like nothing else, but Cameron fights against his yearnings. Being pulled apart by his soul and his head begins to take its toll, but just as Cameron accepts what he truly wants he discovers that Apollo is not who he seems.

I did enjoy this story; it’s a very mystical type of story with seemingly magical moments and strange happenings. Cameron is a great character who is falling into a life he doesn’t really want, meeting Apollo stirs something within him something long forgotten and quashed. As Cameron is pulled this way and that by his dreams and the reality of life he discovers that he has to live life for himself and not for anyone else. I did find the struggle that Cameron faces to be quite realistic even in its fantasy setting, how we sometimes bury our dreams because of what is expected of us, how we become dissatisfied with what we are doing but feel that we can’t rock the boat.

I loved how Cameron set himself on his path to happiness and the slight twist where he meets someone very familiar who has a very similar experience in a similar timeline, and it gives us hope that Cameron will find the happiness he deserves. The writing style is very good; it draws us in at certain times as though we are seeing the story through hazy smoke making us believe that it really is mystical at times. While we don’t see a great deal of Cameron and his love interest it is perfectly done so we know that they will be happy together, it is difficult to be too forthcoming because Apollo isn’t who we first thought but he does have a huge impact when we discover who the love interest is… confused? Yeah me too and I read the book LOL

I recommend this to those who love self-exploration, fixing things before it’s too late, discovering hope, finding a spark of love, fantasy mystical settings and a hope for the future for the ones who take a chance on their souls desires.
