“Morgan?”

“Later, Jase,” Morgan mumbled. “Tired now.”

“Sparky, wake up.”

Grumpy from the elbow to the ribs, Morgan tried to snuggle back into sleep.

“Morgan.”

A low masculine voice Morgan would have been able to pick out in a football stadium full of screaming fans repeated his name. Morgan’s stomach rolled slowly as he opened his eyes.

Blinking a couple of times, Morgan stared at the couple standing in front of him. The woman had an amused smile curving her lips. Shae’s wife was stunning: a petite brunette wearing impossibly high heels, and currently hanging on to the arm of the man Morgan hadn’t laid eyes on in five years. For the first time since Shae had walked out, Morgan looked into Shae’s huge eyes. Shae looked amazing in a pale blue sweater and black jeans. A little older than the last time Morgan had seen him, but still amazing. He took a closer look and saw the dark circles etched around Shae’s eyes and the weariness that lined his face.

“Shae.”

Jase moved his legs, allowing Morgan to stand and hold out his right hand.

Shae looked at the hand as if it might bite, but at a nudge from his wife, Shae shook it. Morgan resisted the urge to hold on and never let go.

Review: This is a really good book – well written and the characters, for the most part, are wonderful. There are only two reasons why this book was brought down from a 5 – to 3.5 heart rating, but to me, personally, they are pretty damn good and important point. Firstly, I had figured the entire plot out by about 120 pages, which frustrated me for the most part because I was yelling at Morgan and Shae for not speaking and/or not seeing the blatantly obvious. That was the most important reason in my mind. Secondly, though, I had trouble feeling the emotion from the characters, which ultimately would have tamped down on my frustrations about the actual plot.

However, despite all that, there is plenty that I loved and enjoyed about this book.

Morgan is a wonderful character. He is basically the flawed the hero – he is very aware of his flaws and what he has done in the past. But he has been a victim is this large cloud of confusion and miscommunication and generally, arsehole friends who didn’t want him and Shae together in the first place.

Shae is also a great character; the only problem is he was in no way endearing to me. Which is odd, I going by the character’s actions, it typically would have been Morgan’s type of character that I couldn’t get into liking.

Shae has done a couple great things since leaving Morgan, yet at the same time I found him to be both cowardly and naive because he chose to believe everyone else rather than talk to Morgan. In saying that, after terrible fighters and their relationship falling I can almost see (but not condone) why Morgan ended up cheating on Shae. Now that he is back in Morgan’s life, Morgan was very willing to accept the secrecy and space Shae wanted (fair enough but the issue in contention was very important). So I was kinda pissed that Shae kept things from Morgan now as long as he did and agreed totally with Morgan’s reaction. This is all after Shae knows what happened to Morgan after Shae left, with his friends and siblings left to pick up the pieces. Surely he knew that he was being lied to! So although I wasn’t a fan of Shae, he certainly gave the story some much need drama.

Phew! After venting all that, and because of the issues that I brought up, the cast of minor characters are also great. Of course there are varying shades of like and absolute hate but they are what give the story colour!
