Stripping used to be fun, lucrative and a place for Dakota to practice for his professional dancing career. But the owner of Glitter Boys wants Dakota for himself and will stop at nothing to possess him. When his thirteen year-old brother runs away from home to escape their abusive father, Dakota is determined to find him before something awful happens to him on the streets.

Patrol officer Reed hasn’t been attracted to a man in a very long time, but when he’s called to an assault in progress at the LGBTQ teen shelter, a young man approaches him, begging for help in finding his missing brother. An instant spark occurs, but he pushes it away. When the same man is attacked outside a strip club later that night, he discovers the desire is mutual.

As the two men learn more about each other and become closer, the spectre of his obsessed ex-boss remains. In addition to that, Dakota has to fight the system to gain guardianship of his brother and keep him out of foster care. Dakota doesn’t know if the hunky cop he’s fallen so hard for can handle a relationship with an ex-stripper struggling with raising a teenager. But, will Reed be able to give up dating women for good and dedicate himself to their new family?

Sean regarded Dakota. “That was an amazing routine. Do you have a choreographer?”

“God, I wish.” Dakota shrugged. “I learned a lot of cool moves from the teachers I had as a kid and my ballet instructor now. Plus, I watch famous performers, dance groups and so on to get an idea of what’s hot currently.”

“You mean you steal them.” Jon had mumbled it to his dance clothes, but it’d been clearly audible.

Sean pursed his lips at Jon, but Dakota let it roll off his back. His routines were original. He knew that. A fan kick was a fan kick no matter who executed it. But his way of expressing it through his body and how he used it in a number was what made it unique.

“Hmm.” Sean pointedly directed his marks at Jon. “I don’t know how you can steal strength and flexibility. I imagine only dancers who actually work hard at their craft can accomplish that.”

As much as Dakota appreciated Sean’s support, backbiting and tension hadn’t even made it onto his list of favorite pastimes.

“It’s pretty fucking hot under those lights.” Dakota fanned his face with one hand. “I’m gonna grab something to drink.” He considered Sean. “Do you want to hang out a bit?”

It wouldn’t hurt to get to know some of the dancers better. He didn’t see that much of Noah anymore. Between his friend’s porn shooting schedule and nights with his lovers, he hardly ever saw him unless it was at Glitter Boys.

That’s out now, too.

Sean’s expression was friendly, his smile warm. “I’d love to, but my fiancé is picking me up in a bit. He’s taking me out to this awesome new restaurant at the Venetian. It’s our one year anniversary as a couple.”

“Aww. Congrats.” Dakota loved it when couples were still in the honeymoon phase. It was so cute. Someday. “Next time, then. You guys have fun.”

Sean waggled his eyebrows, his grin wide. “Oh, we definitely will.”

Dakota laughed. Between his brief interaction with Reed and meeting someone at work who didn’t act as though they’d sooner spit on him than say hello, he felt a bit lighter than he had in a few days.

After leaving the dressing room with promises between him and Sean to get a drink some time, Dakota ambled to the bar. Appreciative glances landed on him, but as he’d learned to do, he didn’t make eye contact. His gaze was always fixed on a spot slightly behind or to the side of whoever stared. It occurred to him that he didn’t really want to relax with his drink and trail mix in the changing area anymore – at least not while it was still occupied with a hostile stripper.

A loud commotion broke out near said changing area. Dakota’s eyes widened at the sight of Jon running through the middle of the club, his hand held high over his head, strips of glittery cloth clutched between his fingers.

“That bitch stole my underwear!”

The display was all the more highlighted by the fact that the club was between sets and that Jon’s package jiggled and joggled inside the one G-string not imprisoned by his fist. All heads turned to watch Jon’s unintentionally riveting performance. Charlie, the club owner, hurriedly lifted the hinged counter at the end of the bar then rushed toward him. It was clear the moment Jon spotted the owner because he launched into a screechy tirade.

“Do you see these?” Jon shoved the bunched up G-strings in Charlie’s face so hard they practically went up his nose. “These are mine, you know they are!” Jon yanked out a red, rhinestone-studded thong, shaking it at Charlie. “You gave me this one after I let you fuck me the first time, remember? Remember?”

Oh dear.

Sean bolted toward the commotion, his anger clear in the way he charged at Jon. He grabbed Jon’s shoulder but he jerked it away.

“Don’t touch me, you thieving whore!”

“Boys, boys, please!” The short, round Charlie held up his hands in a placating gesture. “Let’s take this to the office. I’m sure we can straighten everything out there.”

Sean held up a crumpled receipt. “I fucking bought those last week at Dark Fantasy’s lingerie store and here’s the proof.” Sean glared at Jon. “This little bastard dumped all my clothes out on the floor then grabbed my best pieces before he ran out.”

My best pieces, those are my best pieces.” Jon narrowed his eyes at Sean.Bitch.”

“In my office boys, now. Unless you both want to pack up whoever’s underwear this is then get the hell out of my club for good!”

Amidst more scowls and mumbled insults, the dancers trailed after Charlie to the back where the office was located.

Well.

About Morticia

Morticia Knight spends most of her nights writing about men loving men forever after.

If there happens to be some friendly bondage or floggings involved, she doesn’t begrudge her characters whatever their filthy little heart’s desire. Even though she’s been crafting her naughty tales for more years than she’d like to share – her adventures as a published author began in 2011.

Once upon a time she was the lead singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She currently resides on the northern Oregon coast and when she’s not fantasizing about hot men she takes walks along the ocean and annoys the local Karaoke bar patrons.

Review: Reed has his hands full with his job as a patrol officer for LVPD and weekends with his teenage daughter. Too full for a love life, that’s for sure. That is until Dakota walks into his life while looking for his younger brother that has run away from their abusive father.

Dakota has a lot on his plate as well. Dance classes fueling his dream of being a professional dancer, a boss that is a little too hands on, if you get my meaning, and of course, his little brother. The attraction is immediate, intense and mutual. Dakota feels comfortable and safe with Reed, while Reed feels very protective of Dakota.

Not long after they meet the two are sharing a bed, quickly after a home, and even faster each other’s troubles. Including Dakota’s ex-boss that thinks No means Yes and feels that he has a claim on the young dancer, regardless of his relationship with Reed.

I had one teensy little issue with the story, the insta-love aspect. It was conveyed well with Reed having only ever been with the one guy, his ex, Mark.

Then there was the issue with his ex-wife and comments she would make, again explained well due to the fact that she feels Reed isn’t Bi, he is gay and wasn’t honest with her.

That coupled with Dakota being younger and somewhat impressionable, Reed sort of being this knight in shining armor kind of guy for him. The relationship moved extremely fast though.

Overall I still quite liked this book, but of course, its Morticia Knight one of my favorite Authors. I really like the way she can write stories about varying aged characters and make each and every one relatable and believable. She has the teenage angst down. Reed’s daughter when they were camping cracked me up.

The older, protective, adoring side of Reed and the confused, but loyal part of Dakota that just wants to dance, be in love and loved, and take care of his little brother.

Definitely worth a read.

While the story can be read as a standalone book, reading the series in order should probably be considered so you will quickly recognize key characters from the other books.
