Blurb: Dan’s BDSM past as a Marine threatens his relationship with Mark, his professional and leathersex partner as the two hunky young Palm Springs private eyes wrestle with the cages, real and imaginary, in the violence of mixed martial arts and in the human mind.

Set in the different worlds of the Marince Corps and mixed martial arts, “Cages – Cathedral City” is the second BDSM mystery involving buff Palm Springs private eyes and leathersex partners Dan and Mark.

Cages come in different forms – the ring for violent MMA contests, the iron-barred narrow cells for defiant captives, and the imaginary cages the mind creates to torment men. Dan and Mark will experience all three over time as the actions moves from Camp Pendleton, California to Berlin and back to the community of Cathedral City.

Will the darkness of violence and decadence overpower the light of determination and devotion?

Review: I have read only one other book by Alex and there is such a different type of tone to it that drives me nuts. And when I say nuts, I do say it in a good way. I never was one for mysteries unless I am extremely bored and can’t get my hands on another book. Which is how I started reading this and I have to tell you I had fun with it.

Although I must admit that it really wasn’t my type of story. As with mysteries I am not much for BDSM and all that. It kind of creeped me out a bit. I need to learn more about it I suppose because if the guys are this hot, then damn I will definitely need to learn more. The Marine part and the fact that they are PI’s now is one hot factor to this book.

Dan and Mark were not only working together but sleeping together. Now according to the blur Dan’s BDSM past was going to cost him. However I didn’t really get that part of the story. Seeing as Dan is a Dominate and Mark is his sub. That part is what came off a bit bizarre to me. It also showed me a part that I didn’t much care for.

These two were a couple but Dan’s giving him to another just was wrong to me. I didn’t much care for that. Now back to the story itself.
The cage is fighting rings. There are three different types that they will deal with. Dan was to guard a young fighter where many wanted to stop the poor kid. It is up to Mark to find a way to save them both.

There is a lot of kink that you can find in it. Dan is one kinky man that is for sure.

Now this book is well written, with a lot of detail and juice however for me it was just difficult to follow. I am not really sure what it was but the darkness I sensed drove me nuts.
Now this book was well written, but difficult for me to follow. It did catch my attention from the start, but I found my mind wandering a bit.

With this book it was the title that caught my attention first, then the cover. The blurb is not very good in describing this book to me, so it didn’t make me want to read it. It didn’t have me anticipating the taste of it. I know that sounds a bit odd and my words are a bit hard to find these days it would seem. There is just so much violence, darkness and the sex is something I couldn’t even begin to explain without giving too much away.

I did like the book itself but it definitely was not for me. I found myself trying to figure out why they did the things they did. I just wasn’t really sure what to think of the book though.

Review: Aside from a plot about as deep as a puddle of lube, Deception is full of very poorly written erotic scenes that are a non-humorous parody of the BDSM lifestyle. Characters dialogue includes the main characters constantly referring to each other by first name, and then boss, and then sir, then master, then sir yes sir, it’s enough to make one’s head spin.

The erotic scenes are totally ruined by adolescent use of adjectives, I believe there is a contest to use as many for penis as possible. There are so many bad one-liners spewed back and forth during sex scenes I actually cringed. For example, “I’m going to come in you, boy. I’m going to blast you to kingdom come, motherfucker.” Boys response: “I’m ready for you, Sir. I need you to skewer me, to fill me with your seed, so I can worship you with my cream.”

Yeah, for those of you who enjoy the psychological aspects of BDSM, this book is not for you. For those who enjoy a good mystery/suspense with lots of clues, layering and foreshadowing, this book is not for you. And even if you just like straightforward literary porn to get the blood pumping, this book is not for you. Better luck next time.
