Review: So, first off, I have to say that I’ve been getting through this series all arse about. I actually wrote a review for book 2 of Island Medics (which I read and loved) before listening to the audio of the present book, book 1 of the Island Medics series. However, for the life of me, I cannot figure of which of Sue Brown’s books set within the universe of the hot docs of the Isle of Wight and cannot find it in my collection, when I am convinced that I have read about the reasons why a minor character of both book 1 and 2 essentially hides himself away. I found the book for 2 characters we met in passing towards the end of Island Doctor too, which I haven’t read and now want (FYI Lyon Road Vet series). It is so incredibly frustrating.

But none of that is the point. The point here is that I have listened to and thoroughly enjoyed Island Doctor. We meet Dr Jeff Martin, a GP on the Isle of Wight. He loves his adopted home, although he tells everyone who cares that he has a girlfriend called Trisha back in Manchester. Trisha is in fact, Tris. Jeff’s boyfriend never wanted to be out and so Jeff never forced the issue.

However, between work and the constant commuting between Isle of Wight and Manchester on weekends leaves Jeff with no social life and knowing very few people on the isle, which makes him scared about coming out. While things come to a head with Tris, Jeff meets the great grandson of one of his favourite patients, Cameron Gillard. Cameron is like a breath of fresh air in his life and Cameron is ready to show Jeff that he doesn’t need to live in the closest. Both MCs are fantastic and strong in different ways, but they are both independent but they are also mixtures of intelligent, rational and caring.

One of the biggest problems for me was that it took a few chapters for me to get used to the narration by Adam Rivington. I’m not sure if that’s because I suspect that the accent is either completely put on or merely an exaggeration or what was going on… it just felt at first that the voice wasn’t real to me. I know for a fact that I find it difficult to listen to Australian accents which are exaggerated, too, more so than the impersonation of the accent. Whatever, in the end, it doesn’t matter because I quickly got on board with the narration and enjoyed the book from start to finish.

Review: Island Counselor is the second book in Sue Brown’s Island Medic series. I swear I have read book 1, Island Medic, the plot and even reading about the MCs of book 1 in the current installment were familiar to me. It is actually the even that happens to the titular Island counselor, Logan, that I remember reading. Though for the life of me I could not actually find said book in my ebook collection. In fact, Island Medics is a spin off series from Sue Brown’s Isle of Wight series (a series that I only just found out about and contemplating if I have the time to back to read it, I would certainly love to).

That aside, Island Counselor works as a standalone book, as do most of Sue Brown’s novels that are part of a series. However, I’m not about to say go back and read book 1 anyway since I only vaguely remember that I’ve read it. Seems a bit contradictory. 😉

Our two MCs are Counselor Logan Wilde, who had been a doctor before becoming a counselor but has escaped reality to not deal with his PTSD on the Isle of Wight, and Nick Brent, who is a native of the Isle of Wight though an accident has left him unable to work for the time being.

Their relationship starts from an odd place. They are both intent to be friends and help the other heal – both physically and metaphorically. Love just seems to come naturally to these two as they help each other. To me, that is the best kind of love story. It’s just so easy to accept them as a couple, as well as be able to see the where their passion comes from and feeling the sexual tension between them. It’s not in your face kind of sexual tension – it’s just nice and perfect for two souls who need some healing.

Review: This is a fabulous new series set in the world of Isle. A world I happen to be very fond of.

First off, Jeff is an idiot. I loved the guy, but he had way too much going for him to put up with Tris’ mess. Thankfully, he finally gets a clue.

Enter sexy Cameron. These two could not be more different, if they tried. But, somehow they work. Well, they work after a few hurt feelings, a major misunderstanding and some sweet sheet time.

All in all, a very nice beginning to a new series.

Definitely recommending.
