Review: Jeremy and Miles have been together for ten years, and Miles is starting to feel his age and the age gap between them now he is well into his thirties. This is a very well written story. It is easy to see the passion between the couple, as well as the continuing concerns about their relationship that plagues Miles. Missed dinners, missed anniversary dinners, late nights working – Miles fears for his relationship and the latest thing just has him feeling disappointed rather than angry at his lover.

Miles’s despair is conveyed so well and really tugs at the heartstrings. Yet through his despair, he really is trying to make it work with Jeremy because it is obvious that these two guys really do love each other. It’s a realistic look at life and relationships, and not just romantic/intimate relationships. People allow life to get in the way and before anyone notices anything, the distance seems to grow.

However, thankfully, in this story, not all is as bad as this. Their relationship is also conveyed in some passionate and steamy sex scenes, which are more on the side of love-making than just straight out clinical sex. There is some rather moody action from Miles, indicating he is probably more affected by their missed anniversary date than he tells Jeremy.

This also makes him seem a little mean towards Jeremy, so I was really torn at a couple of points in the book. But I can kind of forgive him because the poor sods are interrupted so many times it feels like they never left London to holiday in Ibiza. Doesn’t sound like much of an anniversary get away to me.

To put it succinctly, life has happened and everything has just slowly heaped on top of each other, unnoticed. You can really feel the angst and the breakdown of the relationship despite the fact this is the last thing both guys want.
I really liked this book, I related on some levels but on other levels I couldn’t pinpoint why it had started feeling a bit average.

This is a good book, easy to read and the plot is well paced, albeit very uncomplicated. My problem is that I can’t decide if the simple plot line is a good thing or a bad thing in this case. If anything I needed to know more of what was going on with Jeremy at work, because that seemed to be the key to some of their current issues.
