Blurb: Zeke Gulden is a ruthless Wall Street exec. His hard-edged, no-nonsense attitude has served him well in the cutthroat business world, but less so in his personal life. When he finds out his ex-boyfriend cheated on him with a coworker, Zeke can’t let go until he finds a way to get even. However, his meddlesome father has other ideas. The new hire at the family-owned bagel store is somewhat colorful, but his dad is sure he’s the perfect man for Zeke.

Benny Ruggieri is a fiercely proud New Yorker who dreams of making it big as a costume designer in the theater. In the meantime, he’s working two part-time jobs in the food biz. When his new boss sets him up with his successful son, Benny has zero expectations. If nothing else, he figures he can entertain himself by making the uptight businessman squirm. Instead, the two become unlikely friends with an inexplicable attraction they can’t ignore. Benny might be the one to help Zeke set aside his quest for revenge, if he’s willing to let go and forgive what he can’t forget and give in to an unexpected kind of romance.

Review: This is book 2 in Lane Hayes’ A Kind of Stories series. However, this can be treated as a standalone book. Other than an appearance from the couple from book 1, A Kind of Truth, there is no ongoing plot to worry about. I have to say that I find it quite remarkable that I have felt a lot more happiness, joy and romance from the audio of this series than I have from reading the ebook.

This is a totally fun book and really embraces the old saying “opposites attract” because that is exactly what Zeke (he hates being called Ezekiel) and Benny are. Zeke is a well to do Wall Street exec that is also just a tad snobbish. Which is a bit odd since his father and brothers, who run the family bakery, are the most ordinary type people that you could come across. Benny on the other hand is a blue-haired ball of energy who takes life in his stride. And with that all said, both characters do feature in book 1, sort of. One MC, Benny, appears in book 1, Zeke, was mentioned multiple times by his father in book 1.

These guys also have completely different family lives. While Benny works for Zeke’s father, George, on the side, his primary job is to work for his own family. They are Italian-Catholic and to me I saw my own family in that, we may not be New Yorkers but there is that unspoken camaraderie that comes along with coming from an Italian family that immigrated out of Italy. Benny is pretty damn lucky where his family is concerned.

However, Zeke is not quite so lucky. His father was a difficult man to live with after he came out as gay and that is seen in the still mending relationship between father and son. I think it is also interesting how his mother is referred to as “gone”, because she isn’t dead. I assume that she has some form of dementia although it was never stated, and neither was that bit of information crucial to the outcome of the story. It’s quickly evident though, he is just what Zeke needs to loosen up and to make Zeke realize that he has bloody horrible taste in men.

I absolutely adored this audio. Once again, Seth Clayton delivers an absolutely spot on performance for Benny and Zeke. Benny most especially is a very relatable character, although Zeke’s troubles with his ex is also, unfortunately, all too easy to relate to. Seth Clayton totally nails all the emotions and I just didn’t want to stop listening.

Review: Nick is a numbers guy. Always has been. That makes him come off as a bit calculated at times. In this story he meets older guy Wes. Laid back, successful and pretty a good guy. The sparks flew between these two from the start. I thought they were a good mix together and meshed well.

The chemistry was great. I loved how Wes figured Nick out and began to reel him in so to speak without spooking him. I understood how Nick thought but also realized that sometimes numbers aren’t everything and you have to take a chance when the opportunity presents itself.

Wes was awesome. I completely fell for him. He was so smart, patient and understanding to a degree. I was cheering both of these characters on the further I read.

Really good read.

Review: A Kind of Honesty is the third book in Lane Hayes’ A Kind of Series.  I’m going to be honest from the outset: while I enjoyed reading this book the plot or the characters didn’t really reach out and grab me as much as I had wished it would. This book had a lot of potential to be more than what it was, but despite this opinion I was more than happy to devour this book – find out what happened and hope to see the characters through to a HEA.

Here we get to know drummer Tim Chalmers. He was featured as a minor character in the first two books and considering 2 of his own friends are also in gay relationships I I would have expected and hoped that he was more inclined to readily come out of the closest – he didn’t have to leap out and sing a song about it, but just be open. Well, actually Tim is bisexual but the moment he meets Carter Hamilton-Temple, it is clear that there is something special about to start here.

Both Carter and Tim are complicated characters. Yet, in many respects Tim is far more complicated than Carter. However, a lot of the dramas in the book are centred around Tim’s family, Tim’s sexuality and Tim’s work as a drummer in a successful band that tours and records music. For this reason a lot of the book is from Tim’s POV, but I actually really liked that and is also one of the reasons why Carter is the less complicated out of the pair.

You don’t necessarily have to have read the series to enjoy this book. But if you have read the series and want to stick to it, it’s great to find out about Tim after his appearances in the previous books and to see him have his own HEA. Seriously, the man needed someone to ground him and settle him down. After all, it does seem that Carter’s presence in Tim’s life brings a peace to Tim that he has never felt before.

Aerin’s Review:  ♥♥♥♥♥5 Hearts

A Kind of Romance started off as a 5-Hearts read, but along the way Zeke made this book lose its shine and I ended the last chapter with a solid 4-Hearts rating…until the epilogue. That epilogue was everything this book needed, it was sunshine and rainbows and wedding bells, but still real, with a touch of sorrow.

Zeke is a Wall Street executive whose no-nonsense attitude makes him perfect for his job. He has a heart of steel and a core of titanium, he’s impenetrable and vindictive. Zeke doesn’t like to lose and if he ever feels cheated or wronged, nothing will stop him from getting revenge. These are the things we see about Zeke at first glance.

What we don’t see is the confused little boy who lost his mother, the only person who fought for him and stood in his corner, to Alzheimer’s. Growing up was hell for Zeke, because his father was severely homophobic, and bullied and belittled Zeke every chance he got. Two decades later, Zeke’s father has had a change of heart. Time has allowed him to understand Zeke and accept him, and he tries as hard as he can to support Zeke and see him happy.

I love how Zeke’s father, George, was written. Homophobia is usually learned, or it comes from a place of fear and lack of understanding homosexuality. The fact that George worked hard at changing his views and accepting (and even rooting for) the LGBT minority was endearing and hopeful because people CAN change and they do it every day. Just look at how far we’ve come! However, Zeke is not one to forgive, and his relationship with his father is shaky at best.

Benny is an amazing character! He has all the sass and spark, but his beautiful, slightly effeminate exterior holds the core of a warrior. Benny loves who he is and never apologizes for it. He would never settle for anything other than being #1 in someone’s life. Benny works at his family’s Italian restaurant and at George’s bagel shop by day, while working towards his dream of becoming and costume designer in his free time.

When Zeke’s father tries his hand at matchmaking and pesters them to go out on a date, Zeke and Benny agree so that they can shut George up. They both know they’re not each other’s type and there will never be anything serious between them. But the chemistry burning bright can’t be ignored. A kiss turns into a series of intense, passionate, amazing nights of sex. But there’s also friendship and mutual respect forming between them, as they start getting to know each other. I LOVED them together!

The only downside was Zeke and his stubbornness to admit there’s more between them than a friendship with benefits. I understood it at first, but it took mostly the whole book for him to admit even to himself he loves Benny and wants him. The frustration I experienced was mollified by the intense feelings of possessive emotions Zeke got every time he was around Benny. Zeke wanted to crawl into Benny and never let go, which was stupidly hot!

The secondary characters were amazing. I just loved every single one of them! This book was significantly different from other Lane Hayes books, because it deals with the more challenging issue of losing a loved one, and all the angst and sorrow that comes with it.

There were times I couldn’t help but tear up, since Zeke’s internal sorrow and sadness over his mother and his relationship with his father was very real and very heartbreaking. And I believe this was the first time EVER that I cried with sadness and smiled with joy during an epilogue. Prepare for FEELS, people!!!

Prime’s Review:  ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts

This is book 2 in Lane Hayes’ A Kind of Stories series. However, this is a standalone book. Other than an appearance from the couple from book 1, A Kind of Truth, there is no ongoing plot to worry about. Which is good, I think, if you do not like you rock gods settling down with a boyfriend but prefer Wall Street exec from an ordinary family falling for an ordinary guy.

I absolutely adored this book. Benny most especially is a very relatable character, although Zeke’s troubles with his ex is also, unfortunately, all too easy to relate to. However, there were a couple times, because this book was completely told from Zeke’s POV that I wanted to know Benny’s POV. He’s a ball of fire that I related to on many levels and there were just a few times when I wanted to know what was going on inside his head.

Reviewer: Gigi

Review: First off, you’re in for a treat because this whole series is beautifully written and perfectly narrated. I absolutely have a new favorite narrator. I was so glad to see Lane Hayes wrote a series of these heartwarming, soul-searching, and steamy novels.

This second book in the Right and Wrong Series, The Wrong Man, spins out from a character we have already been introduced to in The Right Words, Brandon Good, of B. Goods boutique. Brand is the strong friend with sage advice, always a shoulder to lean on, but always strong-willed, and fiercely independent. His store is his life, and there’s not much room for more beyond helping his friends solve their personal woes. His protective walls come crumbling down when the shock of an ex-lover, his first true love, comes back into the picture, walking a geriatric dog.

Jake is the big strong EMT, so lovable I wanted to hold him and hug him and keep him forever. But there’s a darker past layered into the writing of this story. We know something crushing happened to both characters in their past, but will it be big enough to keep them apart a second time around?

Just as Jake and Bran start to mend fences, and new sparks ignite, with the sweet dog to give them a safe buffer zone, another player comes into the game of love. The ex-lover Jake was seeking distance from wants his place in Jake’s life back. The jealousy is palpable, and Brandon doesn’t know if his heart can take another deep wound.

One of the hooks that kept my rapt attention is the question of what Jake did to Brandon in their past that wounded him so much. And what are the secrets Jake is keeping close to the vest regarding those years between graduation and now. Could it destroy them both? So much drama, such a lovely story!

The most refreshing thing about how Hayes writes sexual encounters is that the main characters don’t rush right to the one finger, two finger, fuck trope. These lovers enjoy all the senses, the kiss, frottage, fellatio, simply being held by another human being, long before the intimacy of intercourse. Each scene, whether it be a simple kiss, or a hot grope up against a wall, is beautifully written and narrated to perfection.

I also enjoy the multi ethnic characters in Hayes’ writing. The beauty found in characters of Latino, or mixed ethnicity backgrounds bring such an interesting weave to the tapestry of this series.

The Wrong Man is a story of heartbreak, loss and disappointment morphing into maturity, individuals witnessing new growth, forgiveness, and rediscovery of each other.

Oh, and I can’t forget the love of a dog, and all the dedication that goes with that!

His focus is music.  Yet there’s something about Will that makes Rand think there’s much more to the quiet college student than he lets on. Review: OMFG, did I love this book!!! I adored it, it was the perfect mix of kinky and sensual and hot! I admit I have a weakness when it comes to MM books… geeky guys who have a kinky, sexy side in the bedroom, musicians- especially rock stars (aspiring rock stars fall under this category as well) and rock-stars and geeks in the bedroom…together…having hot, kinky, passionate sex…where fishnet stockings might and might not be involved.

William is a music prodigy, a geek who dresses the part and who’s wicked talented when it comes to any types of instruments that happen to fall in his hands. He’s very shy, uncomfortable with himself and attention from others, and would like nothing more than to make music away from the public eye. But there’s more to William than meets the eye; his true self comes to play only when he’s transformed by make-up, wings, glitter, and heels (not to mention those incredibly wicked fishnet stockings.

Rand’s dream is to become a popular rock band along with his very good friends and band members, even if that means keeping his bisexuality a secret and not giving in to his desire for men. Rand swore off any type of relationship/hook-up with men, and it worked, until he met Will. William is everything Rand doesn’t want, but can’t help but need; Rand senses there’s more to Will than he lets on, and is determined to get to know the real Will because Rand can’t help but be fascinated by him.

Even though Rand and William couldn’t be more different from each other, they are a perfect match, and once Rand decides to give in to his attraction towards Will, he’s supportive, faithful, solid and respectful. I really liked that about Rand, because I’ve come to dread the typical rock-star whore-ish behavior that’s become a standard in most books, so to me, Rand was like a breath of fresh air.

There are quite a few things that come between Rand and William, like political dramas, jealousy, secrets and a manipulative bitch who I hated with a passion. Leah, the blogger and sometime publicist got on my nerves worse than any female character did in a very long time; there was nothing more I wanted than to reach into the book and slap her around. I wanted Rand to tell her to go to hell a lot sooner than he did, maybe even the first time she came on to him, but in the end I appreciated the he did.

This was an amazing book; there was music, friendship, drama, controlling parents, incredibly hot sex (only between Rand and Will, so don’t worry) and love. I loved the characters and how well they were written, and the beautiful HEA made me smile like a fool.

Great start to a series!

Review: Awww, what a sweet bromance. I must admit I’m s sucker for a slow burn, and a Hail Mary pass; this book has both. The usual problems, when boy meets boy and confused boy falls in love with out-and-proud boy, occur in this plot. Matt freaks out when real life meets the secret love life he’s been leading. Aaron finally makes a stand for himself and the battle to win his heart back ensues. I do love the plan Matt hatches with Aaron’s friends to make his intentions clear and declare his heart, but will it be enough? Well this story does have a HEA, so I’ll leave it to you to discover the rest. It’s sweet, fun, and hot…what’s not to like?
