Chestnuts Roasting

(Anthology)
by

Toni Griffin, Angel Martinez, Freddy MacKay & Silvia Violet

Christmas means different things to everyone, but most often it’s all about pulling loved ones close and brightening the gloom. The fire’s crackling. The snow is piling up outside, even if it’s only in your dreams. Time to snuggle up with some cocoa and some stories carefully crafted by the Mischief Corner Crew to warm hearts and cockles.

Wreath of Fire: Smokey Mountains Bears 2 – Toni Griffin
Michael’s trying to start a new life away from his abusive father, but he’s drifting and not sure what he wants. When he accidentally starts a kitchen fire, the hot new fireman who comes to the rescue is not only another bear shifter. He’s Michael’s mate. Michael desperately needs to get his act together and figure out what he wants if he has any hope of claiming the bear fated to be his.

A Christmas Cactus for the General – Angel Martinez
Exiled to Earth for perhaps the worst failure in Irasolan history, General Teer must assimilate or die. Earth is too warm, too wet, too foreign, but he does the best he can even though human males are loud, childish louts whom he can’t imitate successfully. When a grieving seaplane pilot strikes up a strange and uneasy friendship with him, he finds he may have been too quick to judge human males. They are strange to look at, but perhaps not as unbearable as he thought.

Holly Jolly – Silvia Violet
I’m not gay. I just notice men sometimes. Everybody does, right? I notice Dane a lot, like every time I’m near him, but just because I think he’s an attractive man that doesn’t mean I like him, does it?

I’m also not a fan of Christmas. Too many years “celebrating” with my Bible-thumping family ruined the holiday for me. So what if I envy all these cheerful souls dashing about with smiles on their faces? I don’t have to like Christmas, do I? If anyone could get me in the Christmas spirit, it would be Dane with his easy, relaxed manner and his gorgeous smile. If that were going to happen, though, I’d have to find the courage to talk to him and to admit that maybe I don’t know myself all that well after all.

Snow on Spirit Bridge – Freddy MacKay
Alone in Japan, Finni is struggling against the constant distrust, avoidance, and xenophobia he experiences every day. He misses home. He misses his family. Nightmares come all too frequently because of the stress, and well, Christmas is just not Christmas in Japan. Not how he understands it.

Distressed by how miserable Finni is, his roommate, Mamoru, offers to be Finni’s family for Christmas. Little does he know how much one agreement would change everything between them, because both of them kept secrets neither ever dreamed were true.

Blurb: Life isn’t meant to be easy, but for Zachary Bennet the last two years have been downright hell. The one shining light in his life, his precious daughter, Hayley. Deciding he needs a clean break, Zack gets a new job in a small town called Leyburn in the hopes they can settle down and live a peaceful life.

Between worry over one brother’s increasingly erratic behavior and constantly walking in on the other two making out with their mates, Simon Holland is ready to pull his hair out. All he’d ever wanted in life was a mate and a family. When his wish is finally answered with Zack’s arrival, Simon finds out first-hand how far hate and bigotry can drive some people. But life wasn’t meant to be easy and Simon would protect what was his to the end.

Review: This book has been re-edited. Toni has such a wonderful way with telling a story. She has such a gift with giving someone characters who they can just fall in love with and want to cheer them all the way. They have the abilities to overcome all the pain and anger from their past and move forward in their life. To be able to fall in love and create a loving family.

Zach is just a sweet, loving, and compassionate werewolf who had a loving childhood. He had met his best friend Sarah in high school. When Sarah got diagnosed with cancer, all she wanted was to be a mother. Zach agreed and became the father of a beautiful daughter Hayley. Two years later, Sarah’s family tried everything they could to take Hayley from Zach. So he moved to Leyburn where he met his mate Simon. Simon has always wanted a mate. He was slowly falling in love with Zach and was already in love with his new daughter Hayley. Simon is loving, kind, gentle and very protective. Simon will give everything in him to protect his mate and daughter. The sex is passionate, hot, and very tender, well most of the time. There are times when it is downright hot, fast and rough, just enough to set the sheets on fire.

This story has the perfect amount of danger, excitement, adventure, and kidnapping. I love how the characters can turn the misfortune and pain into compassion, empathy, and loyalty. I love to lose myself into stories when the problems of life get too hard to overcome. I especially love it when it involves two very hot and sexy men who just happen to be able to turn into wolves. This story shows you also what sometimes happen when a love one comes out. The hatred and bigotry that is shown and how the right people can make those who are full of hate disappear. It shows that with acceptance and love that it is possible to have a happy and full life with those you love. When this story first came out it was one of my favorites and since Toni added more to it, just makes it better. I am so glad to have this story in my library so that I can read it over and over. I can’t wait for the next story to come out. I would recommend starting with book one and buying the whole series because you won’t be disappointed.

Blurb: Brian Townsend was having one hell of a week. Rejected by his parents, kicked out of his pack and now his car breaks down on his way south. What else could go wrong? He soon finds out when the police rock up, and the sexy cop turns out to be his mate. What he didn’t expect was his mate to walk away from him, without so much as a backward glance.

Marcus Holland was having one hell of a week. Breaking up with his girlfriend, and then copping an earful from his mother about settling down and having kids. All he wanted was to go home and relax. Little did he know one last call-out on his way home would change his life forever.

Can Marcus come to terms with the fact his mate is a man or will he risk losing Brian forever. However, not everyone in the pack is entirely happy with this mating.

Review: I have always loved Toni Griffin’s books, and this book is on my number 1 top list of favorite books. Such a loving story, with a difficult beginning and a touch of danger added in by an ex. What else can you ask for? With this book absolutely nothing. An absolute perfect story line and a wonderful plot.

Brian makes you fall in love with his tender heart and sad story. Marcus, at first you just want to smack him down for his stupidity, but once he gets over his sexuality, the man just makes you want to jump him. He is strong and loyal, but with his mate, there is a spark of desire and true love shining through. Now once Marcus gets over the straight factor, the sex between Brian and Marcus rocks the bed, the table and the couch…

This is a wonderful series and I am honored to have it in my library.

Review: Once again, Toni Griffin rocks my world. This series should be read in sequence, it’s just better that way.

This story about broke my heart with Jason’s story. He is so gentle, kind and a heart made of gold, and he just grabs your heartstrings. You can’t help but fall in love with him. And his mate Alex feels the same way. Alex is the alpha of his pack and treats his mate as if he is the most special person in his life, which of course he is as he should be. You can’t help but fall in love with him and the way he is so tender with Jason.

This book is so full of love, pain, and sadness, but the love will win all the way around. The sex is so passionate and truly hot. Even with the danger out there waiting for Jason, you can tell the Alex will protect him with his life. It will keep you spellbound and on the edge of your seat.

I am so glad to have found this series as it shows me that true love will heal all wounds. I am very glad to have this book in my library and cannot wait to add the others to it.

Blurb: Zack thought he had a strange job before. Working as a Marine medic in a secret government installation was odd, but working as a human liaison to the fae and as the personal assistant to a sidhe prince is downright bizarre. Throw in the fact that he’s pretty damn sure he’s fallen in love with his boss, and things are close to unmanageable.

Of course, around the fae, a man learns never to say ‘things can’t possibly get any worse.’ Unexplained events have begun to plague the human world. Strange sightings, spontaneous explosions of magic and odd bends in reality crop up. When Finn falls terribly ill and a monstrous creature attacks Zack one night, things quickly slide into disaster. Lycanthropy, loose-cannon mages, and Lugh conspire to make a hellish mess out of things – but the real peril begins when Diego loses an important piece of his mind.

Review: This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Zack is the personal security guard for the fae prince, Lugh, and although he is attracted to the sidhe, he steers clear of an entanglement just like he has for his entire life. Lugh feels more for Zack than Zach realizes, but getting through to the human is impossible. when Zach is attacked by a werewolf everything changes when Lugh has to resort to desperate means to keep him safe. Over with Diego and Finn, Finn has shifter’s fever and is quite ill. Diego is juggling his responsibilities and puzzled by the strange sightings and magical outbursts, while a group of young adults try to gain his attention. As the saying goes ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’ but these good intentions just might destroy them all.

I will advise readers to have read the other books in the series, as this story does mention events from the previous book Diego. I have to say that this is a wonderful addition to the Endangered Fae series, giving us a story about what happens after the veil has been opened and some of the consequences of the resurrected human magic. Zach and Lugh are the main relationship focus of this story, with them finally coming clean with each other, but it isn’t until misunderstanding are cleared up and Zach realizes that he means more to Lugh than he first thought. Diego plays a large part in this story, and even though we don’t see him for some of it, he is still in the background pulling deadly strings. We are introduced to several young characters who add to the storyline with their well-meaning, though nearly deadly, interfering.

There is a lot going on in this story and it all overlaps, Finn is struck down with shifter fever, an illness not seen in hundreds of years, Zach is attacked by a creature that was thought to be extinct and Lugh has to protect him, Diego and Zach try to find a cure for Lycanthropy and then Diego is kidnapped and an evil is unwittingly unleashed. Lugh and Zach with the help of their other friends try to hunt the evil down, but Lugh is then captured, and the real fun begins. So there is a lot going on with the storyline and much of it is connected, so there are no loose ends or confusing plot, the characters are all well written and their parts fit well.

So in all honesty this is a fantasy that draws you in with its imagination and then keeps you reading by the ever-evolving storyline, with the angst and want of romance, with the misunderstandings of men and the good intentions of young adults. I found this story to be really well written, and for the most part, found that the actions taken when compassion is removed and obligation enforced, to be something that could happen. I thoroughly enjoyed going along on this adventure with Lugh, Zach, Diego and Finn and I am looking forward to, hopefully, a new book in the series.

I will recommend this story to those who love fantasy, fae, paranormal, a great storyline, a hard-fought romance, some hot sex, explosions, kidnappings, rescues, facing the consequences and a great ending.
