Blurb: Hunter Donovan’s life always seemed perfect, but there was something rotten beneath the shiny surface. When the truth comes out and his dad is sent to prison, Hunter can only react with anger. His rage boils out of control, leading to a violent incident at school, and then to Hunter being sent to a mental health facility—Better Days.

Hunter doesn’t see how therapy can help him. If it can’t change the past, what good is it? It’s not like he can go back in time, see the horrible things going on right under his nose, and put a stop to them. No, he should have found that strength when he had the chance, and now it’s too late.

There is a ray of light at Better Days, though, in the friendships Hunter forges. Anxiety-ridden Casey, uninhibited Rosie, recovering bulimic Bethany, and Stray, a self-harmer who’s never had a home, lighten Hunter’s feelings of isolation.

Despite the connections he’s forming—and even the love blossoming between him and Stray—Hunter can’t escape his shame and remorse. If Hunter can’t open up and find a way to deal with what happened, he might end up another casualty of mental illness, just like one of the friends he’s grown to love.

Review: An emotional book about teenagers who have struggled with tragedies. Hunter has been admitted to Better Days. With the support of the other teenagers there he comes to grips with himself as well as the secret he learned about his family.

I loved how no matter what each had gone through they had someone there for them to guide them. It was refreshing to read a story about someone truly helping another. Each character has been through something tragic. I loved how Hunter tries to protect those at the place from bullies.

The damage done to Hunter and his family are indescribable. It broke my heart at what was done and who did it. A truly wonderful story that had me in tears at times for the things that happened to these young people and the suffering they were dealing with on a daily basis.

Great read.

Lucas Barnett and Gabriel Stewart didn’t have it easy as kids. They were only trying to deal with bad situations at home when they became lifelines for each other. Their pipe dream was to someday meet in LA, where Lucas would design skyscrapers, and Gabriel would learn to fly. But then Gabriel disappeared without so much as a goodbye, and Lucas got himself in trouble with the law.

Five years later, both men are at a loss when they run into each other at a Hollywood bar. Lucas is still angry, but it’s not as if Gabriel could control how his mind and body had betrayed him. Being found on the ledge of that bridge had changed everything.

The attraction is immediate, but it’s more than their inability to keep their hands off each other. Neither man expects the fierce connection pulling them together. Unfortunately, ignoring their problems doesn’t make them disappear. Gabriel’s internal struggles are serious…dangerous. And no matter how much Lucas wants it to be true, saving Gabriel won’t make up for not being able to save his mom. If they don’t find the strength to face their own demons before the darkness takes hold, they risk more than just losing each other forever.

Review: These two authors are new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Normally I can pick up a book and read it straight through. However with this one, it was the exact opposite. It is a well written story with beautiful characters, but there is also this darkness to the story. Which I suppose has to do with one of the guys being bipolar. It talks about their times away from each other and their time together.

It is a very touching story about two young men who meet online and plan to get away from their lives. They are both a bit scared of coming out to their families but like all young people they never really think of the truth. They get caught up in life and lose touch with each other only to find each other after a few years have gone past.

Gabe is bipolar who just wanted to get away. He ends up hospitalized and is unable to contact Lucas. Lucas feels that he has been abandoned and gets in trouble with the law. He ends up in juvie and must find a way to get his life back on track.

Five years down the road they see each other and things don’t really go as planned. Lucas is pissed and his heart is aching. Whereas Gabe needs to get his life in order and back on the meds. They need to learn to forgive and start to love one another.

Now this story is just told a bit strange for me so I couldn’t really get into it. Like I said above it has a dark tone to it but not as much pain as one would think. It did flow pretty good at just the right pace but to me the story just didn’t rock right. I did like the characters but I really hope that the next book is not about these two.

I am not really much into romance stories with mental issues, so I am not really sure what grabbed my attention with this particular story. It has a few parts that just seem to repeat, which for me was a drag.

Overall, the story was pretty good with some tender heart areas. However I do realize that it was not for me.
