Blurb: After his sister’s death, businessman Marshall Hunter gains custody of his niece. Unused to children, Marshall struggles to connect with her. In an effort to make her more comfortable in her new home, he hires professional muralist Pace Barlow to personalize her room.

Pace is intrigued by his tiny client, and even more interested in her handsome uncle, but Pace isn’t certain he’s ready for the commitment of an instant family.

When Marshall decides to move for the sake of his niece, will he be able to keep his relationship with his young artist, or will he have to give up love to become a good father for a lonely little girl?

The love baked into an old-fashioned recipe might bring the two men together, but some things take more than magical cookies to fix.

Review: Now this story was a big surprise. I had such a blast TalesoftheCuriousCookbookLGreading it and the characters were perfect. I have read almost all of Amber’s stories and although they are all shifter stories, they led the way to this amazing author. It gives you a new direction to pursue with her books.

There was absolutely not a dang thing missing in this story. I had such a fun time reading it. I must admit it is not one of those they meet, fall in love and everything is perfect right off the bat. This one has a little bit of pain added in.

Marshall’s sister death was unexpected and had left him raising his eight-year-old niece Alice. She has withdrawn into herself pretty much, but has told him that she wants a mural put on her wall. He would do anything for her. His parents were causing trouble saying he was not the right type of person to raise her, but he knew he was the one his sister trusted the most. So when he met Pace he was intrigued and turned the hell on. He wanted him in more ways than one, but left the hiring to his niece since it was her room that she wanted done.

Pace is a bit different and very quirky. His best friend was the nephew to a mob boss and owed him dearly for something in the past. He took one look at Marshall and wanted to be taken to bed immediately. He was in love with the little girl and wanted her to be happy. Things don’t go perfect for these men and that made it even better. However when trouble came, it was Pace that Marshall called.

What made this story quirky and fun was the fact that the housekeeper made cookies called Courting Cookies. She says that it is a cookie that would make the eater fall in love. It goes from one time frame to a further one in the future and usually that would bug me, but for this type of story it worked perfectly.

I hope that it ends up being a novella with more to it. I had a blast with it and look forward to reading more by this amazing author.
